Exclusive: The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez director Brian Knappenberger and his Luminant Media production company have signed with Wme for representation in all areas.
Knappenberg most recently directed and executive produced Netflix’s critically praised The Trials Of Gabriel Fernandez via his Luminant Media banner. The six-part true crime docuseries, based on the reporting by L.A. Times journalist Garrett Therolf, chronicled the months-long abuse and eventual murder of eight-year-old Gabriel Fernandez in Palmdale, CA. The docuseries, which premiered in February, had an extended run as the top show on the platform and held a top 10 spot for weeks to follow.

"He's doing this because he wants to bring Gawker down." Netflix has premiered the official trailer for the documentary Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press, the latest from acclaimed filmmaker Brian Knappenberger, of the docs We Are Legion: The Story of the Hacktivists and The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz. Knappenberger is one of my favorite doc filmmakers, as he understands the internet better than most people, and always sheds a light on the truth no matter how hard it is to find. Nobody Speak dives deep into the case of Hulk Hogan (aka Terry Bollea) vs Gawker. Unfortunately, Gawker lost the trial and they had to shut down because of this defeat. The film looks at how the idea of a free press is fading away, and the most powerful people with the most money are taking control over everything. This premiered at Sundance and it's a riveting,...

Guardians of the Galaxy has been nominated for the Writers Guild Awards 2015.
James Gunn's Marvel Studios film is in line for the Adapted Screenplay award alongside American Sniper, Gone Girl, The Imitation Game and Wild.
The nod marks a rare honour for a superhero film. The genre is usually excluded from the most prestigious awards.
Boyhood, Foxcatcher, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Nightcrawler and Whiplash have been nominated in the Original Screenplay category, with Finding Vivian Maier, The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz, Last Days in Vietnam and Red Army in line for Documentary Screenplay.
Birdman, Selma and The Theory of Everything are among the Oscar hopefuls that did not qualify for the awards.
The WGAs will be announced on February 14 in simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York City.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) have announced nominations for outstanding achievement in writing for the screen during 2014 and there aren't too many surprises, though I must admit and (even though I didn't like the film) slightly admire the decision to nominate Guardians of the Galaxy for Best Adapted Screenplay. Of course, we also have the expected continuation of the Whiplash controversy (read about that here) as it's nominated as an Original Screenplay here, but the Academy has decided it will compete in the Adapted Screenplay category at the Oscars. On top of all that, we must also remember certain screenplays weren't eligible for consideration due to WGA rules, those include Birdman, The Theory of Everything, Selma and Mr. Turner. So, if you're wondering how some scripts got in over others that should help a little in the sorting process. Just below is the complete list of nominees, winners will...

In January 2013, an incandescently brilliant American political activist and computer programmer named Aaron Swartz was hounded to suicide by the overzealous U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts, Carmen Ortiz. Anyone who argues differently has a desk drawer full of government paystubs.
Brian Knappenberger's The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz connects the dots of Swartz's past, assembling a vivid portrait of a sensitive genius with a strong moral sense. The film incorporates interviews with his friends, family, girlfriend, and a range of digital luminaries that includes activist lawyer Lawrence Lessig and author Cory Doctorow.

Our own Alex Billington loved the inspirational but tragic documentary The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz when it premiered at Sundance earlier this year, calling it "an excellently arranged, engaging and powerfully moving documentary." Now the film is finally heading to theaters this summer and the first trailer has arrived. As a teenager, Aaron Swartz was a computer-programming prodigy with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, but sadly, he was pushed to suicide after some federal lawsuits tore his life apart. This looks like a must-see documentary telling a tale that didn't need to end so tragically. Here's the first trailer for The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz from Yahoo: From help in the development of the basic internet protocol RSS to his co-founding of Reddit, Aaron Swartz's fingerprints are all over the internet. But it was his groundbreaking work in social justice and political...
