Cundey Discusses Carpenter
Dean of Darkness (2013)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
Very good interview with cinematographer Dean Cundey that can be found on the Shout Factory! Blu-ray of THE FOG. Cundey starts off talking about some of his early, low-budget pictures and how that eventually led him to working on HALLOWEEN. From here Cundey talks about various film projects including THE FOG, HALLOWEEN II and III, THE THING, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. As you can tell, there's certainly a John Carpenter connection going on with this featurette.
For the most part this is an extremely entertaining documentary, although there's little doubt that 18-minutes is enough time to really give much detail about all the films that are discussed. A lot of those films have longer documentaries out there with Cundey discussing in more detail so this here actually works well just as a quick round-up of the films that he made with Carpenter.
