- When a stuffy retired Judge is forced to spend time with his 10 year-old Nephew, the boy unexpectedly reignites his imagination, changing his life forever. This heart-warming story coincidentally popped into my head just as Screen South launched their fantastic Innovation Shorts Scheme. I never thought I'd have the chance to make another short film as ambitious as The Happiness Thief. This time however I am venturing into state of the art 3D technology and CGI animation to tell an enchanting children's story inspired by my recent fatherhood. The film celebrates our ability to imagine and reminds us that: imagination can be forgotten, but never lost.—Derek Boyes
- Geoffrey Cranbrook, a stuffy retired Judge, is unexpectedly asked to look after Henry, his 10-year-old nephew. Geoffrey is trying to write an exceptional book and not wanting to be disturbed, asks the boy to remain in his bedroom. Henry however, is incapable of sitting still and learning that his Uncle is suffering from 'writer's block', slips into a fantastical world to try and find a cure. There he meets Raygo Rattlegum, an elf-like hunter who reveals that to restore someone's imagination you need a single drop of blood from a Voydarkatron - a hideous beast that sucks people's brains out of their eye sockets.
