Warning: Spoilers
The 2nd season of The Fosters, seems like it maybe less flagrant than the first. Something which I like because, as much as all the topics covered during the first season were interesting, it seemed like none of the major ones, like immigration issues, got the type of focus they deserved. As for this season, I am getting the general vibe that there won't be crazy curve balls coming out of anywhere, and that there is really going to be a focus on building characters more than throwing stuff at them to see what they can handle. Which, I'll admit, may take getting used to, but there was a real need throughout the first season to establish more than just Callie and Brandon, and I think this may happen as the season wears on.

Topic 1: Personal Ambitions – Brandon, Lena, Stef and Mike

While we don't hear much about the symphony opportunity Brandon had, what is a major topic is him possibly getting surgery. Something Mike is for, and the un-consulted Lena, but being that Stef is his primary caretaker, and she is against it, she makes it seem Mike is against the surgery as well in an attempt to try to shut down the conversation. Which seems like it may cause problems for Stef in the future. For one, Mike is feeling like Stef is trying to alienate him from his son, which I think is true because when Brandon left to live with Mike you could see how hurt Lena was just thinking Brandon would try to make it a permanent living situation. But, what makes matters worse for their relationship is that Stef is asking Dani all these questions about Mike's sobriety, and he doesn't appreciate her not being direct with him. Unfortunately for him though, her being direct means her asking about the night Anna got into an altercation, and while he lies to her, we get to see his face as he leaves and it seems he likely did something.

Switching to Lena and Stef's relationship, as seen during the first season, there is an issue of Lena getting lip service that she is Brandon's mom, yet never really getting to participate in parental decisions. Which does make me wonder, when she gives birth to her baby will she act the same? Much less, with Timothy not signing away his parental rights how will that factor into things? Speaking of Timothy, as Lena pursues being principal we learn he is going to head the committee to find Anchor Bay's new principal. Which Lena doesn't seem the fondest of, but does accept.

Leaving us with one last tidbit on Brandon. After being dragged to a local concert by Mariana, he finds himself enchanted by this band "Someone's Little Sister," of which there maybe two future love interest: Matt for Mariana, and maybe Lucy for Brandon? That is, if he hasn't upset her to the point of clocking him. But with Matt wanting to jam with Brandon, it seems Brandon may have a genre shift and do something more Pop/Rock with his music abilities

Topic 2: What If I Was? - Jude

As has been hinted forever, but never confirmed, Jude's sexuality comes into question. This time though by Connor and his dad who seem possibly uncomfortable with Jude. It all begins though with Connor's dad who didn't like how Jude consoled Connor after he really laid it into him when they were at the batting cages. So, Connor's dad tries to cut off outside of school contact between the boys. What makes this bad though is Connor says "he knows" Jude isn't gay, and when Jude asks what if he was, well this leads to an odd, if not awkward, silence.

Topic 3: The Ambivalence of Robert Quinn – Callie

As of now, Callie's story with Robert Quinn is definitely presenting itself in such a way where you do have to wonder if he may fight for Callie, and whether Callie maybe torn between Quinn's family and the Foster's. But that possible storyline is in the future, as of now Callie is trying to figure out who is telling the truth and is trying to size Robert up. For between his family's lawyers wanting a DNA test, and for Callie to sign papers in which seemingly she can't claim any of the family's fortune, to Robert stalking Callie at her place of work and leaving $100 tips, things are a bit strange.

However, thanks to the power of search engines, Callie figures out this kind gentleman visiting quite often is her dad, and that is when things get complicated. For one, he acknowledges her as his daughter, and even told his other daughter, Sophia, about Callie. And while Callie was told Robert abandoned her mom, Robert claims he didn't know Callie's mom was pregnant when they broke up. Though, it should be noted, he doesn't say why they broke up either, just that he regrets it which makes me think his family was involved. Either way, I still truly believe that Robert is going to present a crossroad for Callie which is going to be presented as some major to-do for the season. Though, ultimately, she will likely pick the Fosters, while maintaining a relationship with Robert and Sophia.

Things to Note

Jesus and Emma seem to be going through a rough patch. Emma maybe too aggressive for Jesus and he doesn't take well to her critiquing all of his ideas and her being the dominant one in the relationship.

They have found Anna's body (!) at a half-way house possibly.
