All that syrup.
Sleepin_Dragon23 October 2018
The film starts off with a tonne of sugar, sickly smiles, false hugs, it's so overly sweet that after fifteen minutes I wanted them all to get slaughtered. It is so disjointed, and distracting to watch, the format is dreadful, so old hat, and that music screams fifteen year old girl's playlist. The moment we get the shift up, literally thirty minutes, I'd overdosed on sweetness, and nothing was going to make up for it. Every cliche ticked off, no phone signal, masked killer, disguised voice...

If you can get through it, well done you. Thank goodness for fast forward. 3/10

Mix of bizarrely disjointed elements that go nowhere
quincytheodore3 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
At first I wasn't sure what I was watching since Prom Ride spends its first half on silly drama musical antic. After a while it suddenly sprints towards creepy horror scheme. The transition feels awkward as these teens barely go through decent characterization and eventually all the gory gimmicks later on seem like they are done for cheap shock effect.

It opens with usual juvenile antics, and in an ultimate odd direction it shows musical score as the teens dance and sing for a good five minutes. Mixed with incessant babbling, the first half becomes very tedious as though it's seemingly lost on romcom drama genre. Plot appears fragmented, it doesn't show the characters beyond stereotypical high school students and it's doubtful that audience would care much for them aside from one or two sexual illustration.

The second half trudges with the same confusing manner. Gore isn't believable, which makes the disorganized narrative even sillier. Visual has no clear direction either as it cripplingly shifts between found footage and usual third person with no merit on doing so. What dread it has is without concrete motives, the plot twist is forced and none of the actors have the ability to deliver the shoddy narrative.

It tries to deliver depravity among friend just like Unfriended did, but it lacks any solid consistency. Prom Ride is a movie that smashes many different genres and plots, then futilely try to pieces its broken fragments to create any kind of story.

Single location indie horror
Leofwine_draca2 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
PROM RIDE is a typically poorly-made indie horror flick with a novel premise, at least: it's a film about a bunch of teenagers being stalked by a maniac (yawn) except they're trapped inside a limousine on their way to the prom. Yep, it's single location time, but my heart sinks when I note that the same guy writes/produces/directs a picture because chances are he'll be overstretched and that's the case here. The horror content is severely truncated and the camerawork more likely to induce a headache than anything else.

Poorly executed, but shows some promise
michael-32047 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Very low-budget, amateurish horror film that seems to be mostly the one-man show of Kazeem Molake, who wrote, produced, edited and directed and, according to the credits, executed all sorts of other tasks as well, including voicing the disguised killer who hijacks a Hummer limo carrying eight seniors to their high school prom. Molake clearly has some talent and skill, but not enough to know where he needs help, especially with regard to sound recording, which is pretty terrible, not that the dialogue you can hear is at all memorable or interesting.

This is the kind of home-made film where all the background extras are credited, probably in lieu of payment. It makes use of lots of footage supposedly taken from various security, hand-held and cellphone cameras, but doesn't adhere strictly to the "found footage" aesthetic. The best thing about "Prom Ride" is the editing -- Molake manages to stitch together all these different vantage points coherently, in a way that doesn't lose viewers, though there are a few instances where it's not quite clear what was happening. He keeps the film visually dynamic, which is no small feat in a movie where the action is confined to a small space for much of its run-time. It's not especially visually creative -- we don't see anything here we haven't seen before, though I did like the killer's mirror mask -- but shooting from so many angles and sources on such a low budget and stitching something together that isn't a complete mess is an achievement in itself.

Alas, the story is inane, as are the characters, if they can even be called that. "Prom Ride" is an object lesson in how to write so blandly that we spend what feels like hours with these seniors without getting to know or understand them at all. Perhaps that's just as well, given that their actions and motivations make no sense, and aren't remotely compelling. Cutting the bizarre musical number that looked like an audition reel for "High School Musical" could have helped. Cutting the entire poorly executed news-footage framing device would definitely have helped. But nothing can create interesting characters except good writing coupled with good acting, neither of which is on display here. Very little is asked of the attractive cast, and that's exactly what they deliver.

Molake may go on to do much better work down the road. If he does, "Prom Ride" is probably something he and everyone else involved with it will want to bury.

Worth watching

Warning: Spoilers
Person filming there Prom , there also CCTV in the limo

For me this movie started off to glee(ly) , that singing and dancing scene went on for to long and they time get ready for the prom.

To me it seem really odd to have in this movie as the rest of the movie had a different feel to it .

Then there limo gets hijacked and messing around with them , tells them to do things or be killed

Few secrets come out and some friends started turn on each other

this was a odd movie, I found some parts watchable others not and I say the same about the acting

I am going to give this a 4 out of 10.

Had Promise But Failed Miserably
bangel332231 July 2020
The idea behind this was good and it started really well. I felt like the acting was pretty decent up until the 'horror' started and then it all fell apart.

I don't care what they say, this is not based on a true story because it's too ridiculous. I know it's fiction but the storyline was way too far fetched to be even a little believable. I mean the reasoning for the hijacking (the fake reason and the the real reason) were so silly it was laughable. Throw that in with some bad acting and it just didn't work. And it's a shame because there was potential there.

I don't mind a b grade horror movie every now and again this one was ok. There is a twist in it but the acting isn't that great. It's a b grade horror movie what can you expect.

5 Minutes of Entertainment 75 Minutes of Annoyance.
clintstevens9 December 2019
Annoyance #1. I am no fan of hand held camera techniques a la 'Blair Witch' and find them annoying.

Annoyance #2. When a musical dance sequence a la 'Glee' is inserted in a horror movie for no rhyme or reason, I find it annoying.

Annoyance #3. Scenes that are stretched to unbearable lengths for filler a la the forced dance scene, I find annoying.

I give the movie 2 stars, plus one extra for the male and female nudity, of which there was much too little, which I find annoying.

A Surprisingly Good Movie!
bradcooney26 April 2015
I watched the movie with somewhat of a lower expectation as the movie's budget wasn't on "Independence Day" levels, that said, I was pleasantly surprised by how good "Prom Ride" turned out to be.

I'll not get into many details about the plot to avoid spoiling it for others, but I can say that the acting was not bad at all and I thought the movie delivered well. I have to say, Deanna Pak's performance stood out the most.

If there's such a thing as scary and fun all in one in a horror movie, Prom Ride is it. I had a few laughs, and I also had my heart rate to increase. A good movie does that.

Would I watch "Prom Ride" again? Why yes, yes I would.

Vile Trash
dcarsonhagy19 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I usually try not to rip into a movie so severely that it seems I might have an ax to grind with the particular genre, but in this case, I'll throw caution to the wind.

"Prom Ride" is a movie that (a) should never have been made; (b) is one of the most vile and contemptible movies I have ever seen; (c) forces the boundaries of good taste to the limits; and (d) tries to take the torture porn genre to new heights.

The story goes something like this: prom night, eight seniors are all dressed up, dad has rented a rolling house (in the form of a stretch limo), everybody drinks, secrets are revealed, and (just about) everybody dies. Along the way, the viewer is forced to watch rape, forced oral sex on a loaded gun (with the executioner giving instructions on how it should be done), a girl who has to urinate in an ice bucket--all the while taping it on her phone in front of her friends--people forced to strip, a lesbian made to wear the clothes of one of the boys because she "wants to be a man." Oh, and that "product" in the ice bucket, well, it is thrown in the face of one of the teens. There is some sort of "twist" ending that did not work at all, but did leave a small possibility of a sequel. I'll alert the media.

This big old turd deserves to be flushed as soon as possible. My idea of a good time is NOT having to watch such depraved acts. The torture here is put squarely on the shoulders (and in the eyeballs) of its viewers. The particular version of the movie I saw was rated R, and should have been rated NC-17. I say no one under 18 should be allowed to view this. It takes vile to a whole new level.

Don't listen to these vile tongued armchair critics.
capelladewdrop21 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Given a limited budget, I would love to see them create a better movie. I bet they wouldn't know where to begin. A good movie doesn't have to be one that has top actors and has won a zillion academy awards.

This is one of the best horror movies I've seen in a long time, and actually led to me buying it after watching it on Amazon Prime. That's because it doesn't have a complicated story, or complicated characters. A good movie doesn't have to be one that taxes your brain to figure out what's going on. Although much of the movie plays like a found-footage movie, it isn't dull and keeps my attention well.

Recommended for your Halloween movie list.
