On the surface, “Música” feels like a very standard story about a talented guy who finds himself caught between two girls he likes, and — rather than be honest with them — starts dating both at the same time. Hilarity ensues. Thankfully, much like the fictional Rudy he plays here, the real Rudy Mancuso is more than meets the eye. His feature directorial debut is a smart and charming coming-of-age love story that is also a musical and such a good cinematic portrayal of synesthesia that it’ll make you forget all about the other, misbegotten attempts to thread the same needle (does anyone remember “August Rush”?).
We are in the era of social media movie directors, but the days of “Fred: The Movie” are thankfully gone. Between Bo Burnham’s “Eighth Grade,” and Danny and Michael Philippou’s “Talk to Me,” YouTube is starting to seem like a viable incubator for worthwhile film directors.

When Zeenat Aman in her Insta post paying tribute to Feroze Khan has written that the Oxford’s word for 2023 is Rizz which means charisma and Feroze Khan was the star who had the charisma or the Rizz. Expanding the analogy further, in the world of music, it was Rd Burman aka Pancham who oozed of risk or the charisma through his music. On the eve of his death anniversary here is a tribute to the legend-Pancham.
Most of us in either of the night spots or for welcoming the new year at home would have ushered the occasion getting drooled and swooned to either of the multitude of compositions that Rahul Dev Burman aka Pancham has left for us, but how many from amongst us remember that just after four days, when we herald the new year, falls his death anniversary.

This article contains spoilers for the Nov. 28 episode of “Dancing With the Stars”
Five couples went into Season 32 semi-finals “Dancing With the Stars” on Tuesday night, with only four slated to compete in the finale next week. But in a major twist, no one went home Tuesday night.
The final contestant’s slot came down to high scorers Ariana Madix and Xochitl Gomez and, to their enormous surprise, fans had voted them both through to the finale.
Alyson Hannigan, who ended the night with the lowest judges’ scores, was so convinced she was going home that she told partner Sasha Ferber after their elegant Waltz,” If that’s my last dance with you, I just want to tell you I just love you so much.” Hough said Hannigan’s the dance, set to “Come Away With Me.” “Comwas her best dance to date and Carrie Ann Inaba praised her “emotional vulnerability.

It’s the semi-finals, and boy does it feel like eons ago when poor Matt Walsh crashed and burned after only one night in the ballroom. Imagine if he had stayed and Harry Jowsey kicked the bucket early, instead! Oh, the laughs we would have had from the droll Veep star.
No use crying over spilled milk (especially when the golden bachelor seems to be doing that in every promo). This is Xochitl Gomez’s contest to lose, right? Let’s see if anyone came close to stealing her spotlight tonight.
Actress Alyson Hannigan (How I Met Your Mother) with partner Sasha Farber. Farber paid Hannigan the ultimate compliment by calling her the “true definition of Dancing with the Stars.” She’s the non-dancing celeb who actually improves over the course of the show. Last week “Too Hot to Handle” reality TV personality Harry Jowsey was the ninth celebrity eliminated from “Dancing with the Stars,” leaving five to compete for the Len Goodman Mirror Ball Trophy: actress Xochitl Gomez, actress Alyson Hannigan, “The Bachelorette” alum Charity Lawson, “Vanderpump Rules” star Ariana Madix and singer-songwriter Jason Mraz. So what happens when those five perform two full routines on Semi-Finals night? Scroll down for our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments and commentary as the night progresses.
Mirror Ball front-runner Xochitl is slated to dance a samba and a waltz. Samba is notoriously one of the hardest styles to learn and perform on “DWTS,” and Jason struggled with his on “Whitney Houston Night” before he came back with a vengeance on “A Celebration of Taylor Swift.” Will it challenge Xochitl just as much, or will it be child’s play for the 17-year-old actress?

Normally, “Dancing with the Stars” wraps its season the week of Thanksgiving. But not this time. Season 32 is going so hard, it’ll finish two weeks after Turkey Day.
The final five couples will hit the hardwood twice on Tuesday’s semifinals with two individual routines — one ballroom and one Latin — to try to secure a spot in the finale. For the first time since the premiere, Jason Mraz will perform to one of his songs, “I Won’t Give Up,” for his Viennese waltz.
See the full list of dances below.
Individual routines
Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy: samba (“Samba” by Gloria Estefan) and waltz (“La Vie en Rose” by Lady Gaga)

Well, now this is a treat: guest host Billy Porter got to open week 8 with a performance of “How Will I Know” to kick off Whitney Houston night. A way better opener than some of those silly skits from weeks and years past! Porter even had the chance to explain his role for the night before the competition kicked off: “I will be looking for storytelling. I will be looking for connection and I will be looking for intention.”

Latin Night saw a lot of missteps on “Dancing With the Stars,” but also some very sexy Sambas, Salsas and Rumbas. Actress Xochitl Gomez and singer Jason Mraz tied at the top of the leaderboard with 24 points each.
Marvel star Xochitl joked that with a name like hers, people would expect she was “born knowing how to Salsa,” but that it wasn’t true. “Salsa is your superpower,” said judge Carrie Ann Inaba, who compared her to Egot singer, actress and dancer Rita Moreno. Derek Gough gushed, “Your spins are out of control,” calling her performance “exceptional,” while Bruno Tonioli proclaimed it “superb.”
Singer Jason Mraz, a surprise breakout dance star in Week 1, had the last dance of the evening, a romantic Rumba with Daniella Karagach. Derek raved, “You nailed it.”

Just when you thought the pandemic had stopped kicking at the shins of Dancing with the Stars, then comes news that — argh! — it’s not over yet. Poor Artem Chigvintsev has Covid! Now his Bachelorette partner Charity Lawson has to dance with Ezra Sosa, a lucky member of the background troupe who now gets his 15 minutes under the mirror ball. It shouldn’t hurt Lawson’s standing; she was the only quasi-ringer to emerge from the premiere night performances.
Notice how I said quasi. That’s right, DWTS watchers: unlike previous seasons, this batch of hoofers didn’t come armed with a decade of dance lessons or a previous life as a TikTok dance star. This season is chock full of straight-up amateurs, people! Finally, some perfectly passable dancing that makes us all warm and fuzzy about the golden days of DWTS.
Enough with the reminiscing. Bring on Latin night!

Ask your parents, grandparents, or any nearby elder, and they’ll tell you that though the world has changed since their youth, many of the fights have not. Debates over racism, Lgtbq rights, and gender inequality rage today as if they were brand-new — and that means ancestors and veterans of past struggles can often offer lessons for grappling with an uncertain future.
Perhaps that’s one reason why Latin America venerates its musical legends. Just look to social media’s obsession with Mexican balladeer Paquita la del Barrio, merengue típico meme queen Fefita La Grande,...

Madrid, Sep 17 (Ians) Real Madrid have condemned racist and xenophobic language and behaviour in football and expressed disappointment at a racist comment on their star forward Vinicius Junior during a TV programme.
Real Madrid were responding after a Spanish agent used a racial slur while criticising the Brazilian forward Junior’s celebrations on live TV.
When discussing the Brazilian during a live broadcast on the controversial Spanish channel El Chiringuito, Bravo said: “You have to respect your opponents. When you score a goal, if you want to dance the Samba, you should go to the sambodromo in Brazil. You have to respect your mates and stop playing the monkey.”
The comments have also evoked a strong reaction in Brazil, Vinicius’ native country, with big names like Pele and Neymar commenting on the issue.

They were all so incredibly young. Caetano Veloso opened Salvador’s Vila Velha Theater, a milestone event for the city, at the age of 21. Pianist Francisco Tenório Jr., the subject of Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal’s “They Shot the Piano Player,” recorded one record as band leader, in March 1964, when he was 23 years old.
But he played piano on some of the greatest samba jazz records of all time, some with Raul de Sousa on trombone and J.T. Meirelles on tenor sax.
“These guys were the geniuses of Brazil music and they were only 23 years old,” Oscar winning writer-director Fernando Trueba (“Belle Epoque”) told Variety at Annecy.
If Tenório isn’t better known, it is partly because he was murdered, “desaparecido,” in 1976 in Argentina while on tour, a full life suddenly annulled at the age of 35, as a military coup d’etat took hold of the country.

“Lupin” star Omar Sy is re-teaming with Gaumont on his big screen comeback with “Father & Soldier,” a politically minded WWI action-drama about family bonds and Africa’s forgotten war heroes.
Shooting now in France, the film is being helmed by Mathieu Vadepied, who made his directorial debut with “Learn by Heart,” which world premiered at Cannes’ Critics Week. Vadepied also worked as the artistic director and cinematographer on “Untouchable,” Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano’s 2010 comedy smash hit which marked Sy’s acting breakthrough and earned him a Cesar nod.
The story opens during the First World War, in 1917, in the French colony of Senegal. Sy stars as Bakary, a father who enlists in the army to stick by Thierno, his 17-year-old son, who was recruited against his will. Together, father and son must fight the First World War in the trenches in France. Thierno is ready to sacrifice his life to fight for France,...

No rest for the weary. The 13 remaining “Dancing with the Stars” celebrities performed routines inspired by Disney heroes on Monday night, but they had to get right back out on the dance floor for “Disney Villains Night” on Tuesday. Scroll down for our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments and commentary throughout the night.

Dancing With the Stars would like us to come along and sing the song and join the jamboree… not once, but twice this week.
You guessed it: Disney Week has taken over the ABC competition series once more, with Monday’s episode celebrating Disney heroes, while Tuesday’s special installment will feature dances inspired by Disney villains. And in true fairytale fashion, Monday’s broadcast delivered a happily-ever-after moment when no couples were eliminated from Season 30.

“Dancing with the Stars'” annual synergistic Disney Night is Disney Nights this season with two evenings of competition — spotlighting heroes on Monday and villains on Tuesday — but most notably it’ll mark the return to the ballroom of Cody Rigsby and Cheryl Burke.
Rigsby and Burke are cleared to return to the show after recovering from their breakthrough cases of Covid-19 that forced them to miss the last two tapings and perform the first virtual routine in “Dancing” history. For Heroes Night, they’ll do a jive to “Stand Out” from “A Goofy Movie” (a true choice to assign the couple who just had Covid a jive), and for Villains Night, they’ll perform a Viennese waltz to one of the greatest villain tunes of all time, “Gaston” from “Beauty and the Beast.” (The Miz and Witney Carson are also right up there with the iconic “Be Prepared” from “The Lion King...

Melanie C danced to a Spice Girls track on the “Dancing with the Stars” Season 30 premiere and now Jimmie Allen is like, “Hold my beer.” The country star is set to hit the parquet to one of his songs on Week 2.
Allen and Emma Slater will perform the rumba to the former’s “Billboard” Country Airplay topper “Make Me Want To” on Monday. The duo scored a 22 for their first dance, the tango, which was the third lowest score of the night, but the rumba could be a hit or a miss for any couple because of the hip action that may be too early in the game for some to nail. The rumba is one of six dances this week, the others being Viennese waltz, foxtrot, samba, tango and cha-cha. Speaking of hip action, Matt James and Lindsay Arnold are the only ones doing samba.

Exclusive: Third-party streaming analytics company Samba TV has weighed in on the weekend viewership of Warner Bros’ The Suicide Squad on HBO Max, saying that 2.8 million U.S. households tuned in over the film’s Friday-Sunday frame.
That number among movies on HBO Max marks the highest weekend ever for a DC property, well ahead of Justice League: The Snyder Cut (1.8M households over four days) and the Christmas weekend of Wonder Woman 1984 (2.2M). But it’s not the highest the streaming service has seen for a day-and-date theatrical movie as monitored by Samba; that crown still belongs to the R-rated New Line title Mortal Kombat, which drew 3.8M U.S. households. Suicide Squad‘s HBO Max weekend views in Samba TV homes are 26% behind that figure.

With a new Grammy season ahead of us, the recording academy announced a number of changes to better reflect the changes in times, transparency, and in the music industry as a whole. Let’s break down the six most important ones.
SEETop 4 Grammy trends to watch out for now that the nomination review committees are gone No secret panels in most categories
The most popular change this season is the removal of nomination review committees in most categories. Starting this year all non-technical awards will be decided by a straight, academy-wide vote, meaning that the top-voted five (for genre) or eight (for the general field) will be the official nominees, no middle men or women. Though there will still be committees for technical categories, like both Best Engineered Album categories.

Netflix is reteaming with “Lupin” director Louis Leterrier (“Now You See Me”) and star Omar Sy (“The Intouchables”) on a sequel to the 2012 action comedy “On the Other Side of the Tracks.”
The film, which is still untitled, began shooting in Paris on March 15 and will also be lensed in the French Alps. It will be available on Netflix worldwide in 2022.
Eric and Nicolas Altmayer at the Paris-based banner Mandarin et Compagnie are producing. The Altmayer brothers, who had produced “On the Other Side of the Tracks,” boast prestigious credits including movies by Francois Ozon, Anne Fontaine, Michel Hazanavicius and Roschdy Zem.
Penned by Stéphane Kazandjian, the sequel will star Sy and Laurent Lafitte (“Little White Lies”) who will reprise their respective roles as Ousmane Diakité and François Monge, two cops with very different styles, backgrounds and careers. They may have worked together many years ago, but life has forced them apart.

There's a reason everyone is talking about Lupin: because it's really freakin' good. Inspired by Maurice Leblanc's famous character, Netflix's French crime series revolves around a mild-mannered thief named Arsène Lupin, who's played by an actor you may just recognize. French actor and comedian Omar Sy is known for his roles in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Jurassic World, as well as popular French films like The Intouchables and Samba, among several others. Omar is also a devoted husband and a father of five, and we have a feeling his career is about to take off. Here's what you should know about the Lupin star.

The “Dancing with the Stars” finale is here, and no matter who wins, the Mvp will definitely be Nelly.
As previously announced, the rapper will perform a medley of his greatest hits in addition to, you know, competing for the Mirrorball. On the docket are his classics “Ride Wit Me” and “Hot in Herre,” and his latest single “Lil Bit” with Florida Georgia Line. Let’s hope “Dilemma” makes it so we can all roast him and Kelly Rowland for texting via Microsoft Excel again. Never gets old. Daniella Karagach and her hubby, Pasha Pashkov, will dance while Nelly performs, so they can totally reenact this Excel extravaganza.
The final four couples will perform two numbers: a repeat of their favorite dance of the season and the freestyle. Kaitlyn Bristowe and Nev Schulman are redoing dances for which they received 30s, so there’s nowhere to go but down. But...

The Latin Grammy Awards took place on Thursday, Nov. 19 awarding the year’s top artists in Latin music. “I always have loved the samba. I love Latin music and Latin dancing. It goes back to when I was 10-years-old the first time I saw ‘West Side Story,'” said Justina Machado about how special her “Double Elimination Night” dance would be to her on “Dancing with the Stars.” She’s a Puerto Rican woman, so it was special for her to see Puerto Ricans on screen for the first time, especially Rita Moreno, who won an Oscar for that film and would go on to play Machado’s mom on “One Day at a Time.” “Keep doing what you’re doing,” Moreno told her in a special video message. “You’re beautiful, you are brave, and you’re a dancer!” Watch Machado’s samba video above, and see what the judges had to say about it below.

And though Monday’s episode was supposed to end with a double elimination, only one couple ultimately went home, following Jeannie Mai’s premature exit due to an urgent health issue.

What a difference a day makes. The November 2 “Dancing with the Stars” was supposed to be “Double Elimination Night,” but one of those eliminations happened early as a contestant was forced to withdraw due to illness. So how did that sudden exit affect this week’s show? Find out below in our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments and our running commentary throughout the night.
See‘Dancing with the Stars’ eliminated couples of season 29: Who went home, when and why?
Jeannie Mai was the contestant who had to make a sudden exit. The Emmy-winning host of “The Real” announced on “Good Morning America” that she was diagnosed with epiglottitis, which requires surgery and prompted her to quit “DWTS.” She had been scheduled to perform a Charleston with her pro partner Brandon Armstrong, and then she was to dance a Viennese waltz against Johnny Weir and Justina Machado in a Relay Dance round.

[Update Nov. 2: Jeannie Mai has withdrawn from “Dancing with the Stars” after being hospitalized over the weekend, so there will now only be one elimination.]
A double elimination means double the dances on “Dancing with the Stars” — but it’s not two whole routines. In addition to their individual numbers, the top nine couples will face off in relays on Monday.
The nine pairs will be split into three relay groups — cha-cha, samba or Viennese waltz — and each couple will perform one at a time during their respective relays. One judge will be assigned to each group and will rank the couples within that group for bonus points. The points will be added to their individual scores and the live votes for the double elimination.
“Dancing” hasn’t done relays in a hot minute, but now’s a good time as any to bring it back since it can’t do team dances because of Covid-19 precautions.

Maybe the samba isn’t so scary after all. Many celebs on “Dancing with the Stars” have struggled with it in the past, and Skai Jackson and Carole Baskin had trouble with it earlier this season. But on “Top 11” night it was smooth sailing for Backstreet Boys singer Aj McLean, who had his best night all season, despite a clip package in which he kept apologizing to his pro partner Cheryl Burke for missteps during training. Watch his performance above, and see what the judges had to say about it below.

Break out the leg warmers because it’s ’80s Night on “Dancing with the Stars” and there’ll be a lot of… tangos?
Four of the top 12 couples are tasked with tangos this week, so prepare for lots of side steps. Kaitlyn Bristowe is one of the four, which is a good thing since, like Derek Hough pointed out last week, it’s been getting too same-y with her pretty but similar lyrical routines the past couple of weeks.
Two dances will make their season debuts: jazz, which is assigned to three couples, and contemporary, which Johnny Weir got. And if you’ve seen any of his figure skating routines, you know he will nail this. Also, it’s to “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” so this is going to be a moment.

I added up the YouTube views for the first three weeks of dances on “Dancing with the Stars,” and two of the bottom three celebs on the online video platform ended up as the bottom two when judges scores and viewer votes were combined on “Top 13” night. Does that mean YouTube views are a good proxy for audience enthusiasm? Maybe, maybe not, but it’s worth considering the week-four numbers as we head into “80s Night” on October 12, since half of the show’s results are determined by viewer votes.

Keep coming for Tyra Banks all you want, but she’s going to remain unbothered. In a TikTok video following Tuesday’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars,” the host addressed the hate she’s been getting on social media after flubbing some lines on the show.

If you’re tuning in to ABC on Monday to catch “Dancing with the Stars,” prepare to be disappointed. As previously announced, “Dancing with the Stars” is not airing on Monday, Sept. 21 and will instead air on Tuesday, Sept. 22 because of football.

Busting out the tough samba and rumba this early feels wrong, but Skai Jackson has the former and Justina Machado has the latter. Chrishell Stause also has the rumba,...

Gloria Estefan didn’t enter the music business to become a superhero. Nor did she anticipate becoming a patron saint for Cuban-Americans, nor a musical ambassador to Brazil. But three Grammys, 14 studio albums, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom later, she’s come to embrace all three roles after stumbling upon them.

Tommy Tonge, whose credits include “The Billie Barry Jubilee Ball” and “An Evening For Earl” gala concerts and the second and third seasons of the original “Penny Dreadful” returned as this season’s choreographer and is the man behind the electrifying numbers.
Here, Tonge talks with Variety about learning the Latin dance movements of the 1930s, his choreography process and putting together a key dance...
