The show goes on
mgidb31 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I think that the washer machine did the change in Lester's life, but it was a good final wash for the the anti-social poor old Lester.

One year later.

Best insurance salesman now is hunted by the ghost of Lorne Malvo, a pregnant police officer and a deaf criminal. WOW

Some Things are Meant to Change
someonesmart2121 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Yes some things are meant to change, and this episode is all about the change. I'm just really amazed to see how Lester changes from being a loser to being a winner guy but through a very dark path. The episode starts where things were left and it seems that Lester is winning his evil plan, Molly still doesn't believes in all what the story is changed into and still has some suspicions but faces pressure to close the case from the authority. At after thirty minutes of the episode the timeline is shifted after one year of the events that took place and shows how's everyone is doing in its life. The later part is all about that until in the final moments we saw that Lester sees a very familiar face in an unlikely environment. Thus the episode ends with a very intriguing conclusion.

Fargo: S1E8 "The Heap" Review - King Cadmium
kingcadmium2 March 2022
Molly faces pressure to close the case, while Lester starts to feel like a new man.

What I Liked:

The cinematography is solid, and each scene perfectly implements its beautiful and mesmerizing music score. On top of that, each actor gives a strong performance, with Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman being the clear standouts.

Malvo is one of the most intriguing individuals you will see on television, with Thornton's portrayal being nothing short of superb, along with Freeman's portrayal of Lester.

Lester's transformation sees him become arguably the most interesting character on this show, even more so than Malvo. One year has passed, and he is now the Insurance Salesman of the Year. It will be interesting to see what happens now that he's spotted Malvo in Las Vegas.

What I Disliked:

Chaz is still in prison one year later, even though his fingerprints weren't on any of the items in evidence, and Lester's were. Forensics would have discovered this long before the time jump.

Given this is a setup episode, there are some uninteresting portions, mainly the scenes between Gus and Molly.

Overall:

Though not the best this show has offered so far, this is still a great setup episode. Fargo has been a highly enthralling show to watch so far.

8/10

King Cadmium.

Fargo jumps one year
TheDonaldofDoom18 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In a twist I did not see coming, halfway through the episode there's a jump to one year later. It does make sense to do this as Lester is a free man now that no one wants to hear Molly's evidence to why they got the wrong guy. That's the only thing about this I don't buy. Are you seriously telling me she would be completely ignored like that, even when presenting evidence that points to Lester committing the murders? I can let it get away with that because everything else is so damn good, but it is frustrating to see her constantly ignored.

The time leap was necessary to show Lester as a competely different man. There he is, with a beautiful wife, accepting Insurance Salesman of the Year. Unlike the old, socially awkward Lester, he seems entirely at ease. The presence of Lorne though is likely to end that. Molly, on the other hand, should be content, with a husband and a baby on the way. But her unresolved evidence pointing to Lester that no one believes means she isn't truly happy. What comes next will no doubt be worse though. Most of the characters are in a stable place right now. But no doubt, in the next two episodes, with the return of Lorne, things will come crashing down.

Malvo Rises
Hitchcoc6 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Malvo kills a guard and talks to the "silent" partner in the duo of hit men. Instead of killing this guy, he makes a silent alliance with him. He gives him the key to the handcuffs (stolen from the dead cop) and tells him that when he feels better he should look him up. Gus and Molly agree to a date and suddenly we are moved a year into the future. Gus is driving a mail truck and Molly is a very pregnant cop. The two FBI guys have been exiled to the records room where they sit all day realizing there is no future. Lester now has incredible confidence. He makes the bold move of stapling the foreheads of the two Hess boys. In that one year leap, he has obviously become a different person. He is at a fancy hotel where he is awarded salesman of the year. He has married the office secretary, a beautiful young woman. Molly keeps saying that they have everything, but she lies awake, still thinking about the case involving Lester. We can assume that Lester's brother is in prison and Lester doesn't bat an eye. And then, when thing are going great, the episode ends with a bang.

Horrible Episode
Warin_West-El3 May 2023
This episode was SO bad, I had to stop watching and come here to write this review.

Essentially, this is nothing but a FILLER episode. In fact, at one point it got so bad, they showed Gus and Molly watching television then cut TWICE to what they were watching. Using the fictional television program as filler. Fine - show them watching TV. But then don't use the television program itself to fill up screen time.

And what IS it with the bathroom scenes? It would seem the writer made a bet with someone to see how many bathroom scenes and puke scenes they could jam in one season.

The only saving grace of this episode was watching Kate Walsh act. She did a great characterization of Gina Hess. Other than that . . . This episode was the pits.
