- Abbie and Ichabod learn that Katrina is in imminent danger and race against the clock to help her.
- Flashback to the Civil War, Katrina and Ichabod lying in bed together, savoring the last few hours before he has to report to duty. They fantasize about what their children will be like.
Back in Abraham's house, Katrina wakes up gasping with visions of demons and something crawling down her throat (because an enchanted spider from Henry just did).
On election day, Crane is in a tizzy about low voter turnout. Abbie points out as a black woman she couldn't have voted back then. Crane notes that she didn't own enough land to vote either.
Back in the cottage, Katrina is feeling un unnatural illness that she tells Abraham feels like a poison. He's insisting he did nothing when Henry comes in with goons, saying he's there at Moloch's command. A doctor checks her eyes and announces that "everything is as expected."
Abraham begs Henry to let him speak to Moloch, but Henry points out Moloch does not tolerate disobedience. Abraham starts to go after the men with his broad axe but Henry uses his powers to fling open the window, burning Abraham with the sunlight.
He manages to regroup enough to follow them as they're dragging Katrina away and kill one man. Katrina decks one and knees another, then escapes out the door into the forrest with the henchmen on her heels. Henry opens a door to immobilize Abrham in the sunlight again.
Katrina runs out of the forest, and arrives screaming for help at a nearby gas station.
At the polling place, they exchange icy pleasantries with Captain Reyes. A trooper tells them about a call describing Katrina.
At the hospital, they learn Katrina has a fever of 105 and an infection in her abdominal wall. She wakes up and tells Crane why she had to run, then starts screaming in pain. They see green spider veins tracing across her abdomen. She tells them she's tried spells but nothing is working. Crane and Abbie hustle her out of there and see Henry's goons on their way out.
They break up so Abbie can follow them.
Back at the archives, Katrina rigs a hex to warn them if the goons approach.
At the archives, Katrina tells Crane about the notebook the goon doctor had with him. Crane recognizes it and shows her a similar drawing -- the symbol of a bygone society, the Hellfire Club. They fought for evil to prevail. Franklin got the key that got Abbie out of purgatory from them.
Franklin wrote about an illness like Katrina's, but doesn't say what happened to the woman. When Katrina tells Crane about Abraham, he's bothered by the idea that she's starting to see him as human. She assures Ichabod she's only talking to Abraham to further their cause and doesn't enjoy it. She swears she's not keeping any other secrets from him.
Abbie follows the goons to a warehouse. She calls Crane to report her location then sneaks in to listen to the doctor on the phone, looking for a translation from a stone tablet. Abbie sneaks a photo of it. She bumps into a corpse on a gurney on the way out. An arm bearing the same green spider veins fals out. She keeps exploring and finds a hospital bed with stirrups. She steals the doctor's notebook on her way out.
Back at the archives, Crane goes through the photos. He reads the doctor's notebook and finds a woman referred to as a "vessel" who underwent inception and "expired" after delivery in 10-12 hours. Katrina pregnant.
Crane finds a reference to the "seed" being born of jinkan, the poison Henry got from them last week. He planted a demon in her.
Katrina's hex paper ignites and they run for the tunnels as the goons comes in. The goons follow, opening fire. Abbie, Katrina and Crane make it to St. Henry's Parrish, the church where she left their son and where Henry took his name. Katrina suggests that Henry, as a sin eater, could remove the demon from inside her. She thinks Henry only follows Moloch because he had no family, but they're there now. Katrina refuses to believe he's a lost cause.
Abbie reminds them he's the Horseman of War who has sworn to unleash Hell. Crane thinks that given that Katrina only has until sundown, beseeching Henry is their only course of action.
Captain Irving calls Henry to Tarrytown, where Crane waits to speak with him.
Back at the church, Abbie flips through the doctor's notebook and finds that the demon is called the Horrid King. Katrina collapses as her stomach grows.
At Tarrytown, Henry laughs at the idea that it's just a demon growing inside Katrina.
Abbie keeps reading and realizes the Horrid King is Moloch. Katrina suggests that Moloch cannot rise if his vessel is dead, but Abbie won't hear of it.
At Tarrytown, Crane tries to reach through to Henry by telling him he'll never forgive himself if he lets his mother die. Crane reminds Henry that Katrina went to purgatory for him, but Henry thinks she did that to save Crane. Crane offers Henry his hand to read his sin and see the truth, but when he won't, Crane says it's because he doesn't want to see the depths of his suffering. He tells his son he has a choice.
Henry chooses Moloch. Crane grabs him as he goes and sees a young boy running through the woods in fear. "That was you?" Crane asks.
Back at the church, Katrina tells Crane she can't give up on Henry.
Crane sees Abbie's picture of the tablet and notices the distortion around it looks like the Northern Lights. Franklin was obsessed with the idea that they could banish demons and wrote a paper about it.
"I must internet, immediately," Crane announces.
They're able to pull up the text and find a coded message referencing the Hellfire Club's tablet and a prism Franklin made mimicking the Northern Lights. He hid it inside the tablet and if sunlight is shown through it, it will stop Moloch before he enters this world.
After leaving Katrina with a walkie talkie, Crane and Abbie go to Captain Reyes to tell her "the truth about what's going on in Central Ohio." Abbie says there's a Doomsday Cult in the warehouse and uses her photos to allege torture. She says the club has colonial origins and Crane helped her track them down.
Reyes OKs a tactical team and they storm the warehouse. Crane cracks the safe holding the tablet (Abbie suggests they're an evil club "try 666") and they get it before Reyes finds them. She commends Abbie on her work and is intrigued by Crane's role as a criminal profiler on cases with historical origin.
They make it back to Katrina as Moloch is about to burst out of her stomach. Crane bashes open the tablet and rips the boards off a church window to shine the sunlight through the prism. Katrina screams and writhes as the lights shine on her belly, turning from green to red. Finally, she collapses, with her belly back to normal. But she's not breathing.
Crane gives her CPR and she comes back.
Later, Crane and Abbie discuss their ongoing efforts. She can't believe he still thinks there might be good in Henry. Crane mentions the memory he saw when he touched Henry and that he doesn't think he was meant to see it. Even if Henry wants them to believe he's all evil, Crane still has faith there's good in him.
Meanwhile, at Henry's house, he's brewing his next evil experiment, a red vapor in a jar.
