Mariana Preda and Nikolas Grasso co-authored the screenplay. They came up with the idea for the short film one year earlier. On a heavy rainy day, they were walking on a sidewalk sharing a red umbrella like in the film. When they heard from the stereo of a parked car a song they were used to enjoy together, they each ended up thinking and feelings the same. Once they share this to each other, they decided to adapt those emotions into a short film.
At first, the atelier owner believed the producers wanted to organize a party event at her place and film it. The miscommunication was likely due to the producers' enchanting enthusiasm. When the owner understood it was a film shooting, she smiled and gave her permission anyway.
This is the first movie entirely directed by Mariana Preda.
The short film won the Independent Spirt Award at the Monaco International Film Festival in 2014.
Life premiered at the NFFTY film festival in Seattle, in April 2014.
