Brilliant start after amazing season 5 finale!

Warning: Spoilers
The Good Wife, probably last years one of the best shows and definitely the most underrated one, is back to screen after thrilling season 5. The first episode The Line aired today placing us right in the center of mind-blowing events and now I believe, its writers are never going to upset us.

To refresh your memory, last season ended with Eli suggesting Alicia to run for State Attorney and Diane approached Florrick/Argos for merger. This season continues right after these events, since Alicia and Cary are still discussing Lockhart's proposal and Mr. Gold is still pleading for running as SA.

The Line has everything The Good Wife writers are good at: surprises, passion and overwhelming speed of how everything happens. But mostly, it's because now our favorite lawyers suddenly are on the wrong side of law. Cary Agos is detained and imprisoned for drug charges as he helped his client Lemond Bishop to avoid the law. Even the arrest scene is an example of perfection, because it brings suspicion, surprise, confusion and you almost feel the same Agos feels. The rest happens from the point of view of him, we follow to detention center, prison and courtroom and we, including the convicted, do not know what the hell is going on.

As later it turns out, someone from Bishop's guys has recorded Cary's visit to his client and now he's used to reach the biggest drug dealer in the city. Even by the end of episode, we are not sure whether Cary is guilty or not.

It seems that season 6 will be a quite good season for Matt Czuchry. His character gets the central attention for the very beginning and I don't think he will be off-screen too soon. Maybe we finally see him in the awards race? We'll see. So far, Cary has been one of my favorite characters on the show.

To conclude, The Line has been a brilliant start of new season. It's promising and I really hope everything gets even more interesting and we might see better one than season 5.

Outstanding 6.1 ****

Warning: Spoilers
What a way to begin a season with such a wonderful episode. Cary gets some taste of the criminal justice system when he is arrested for allegedly telling someone in the gang how to evade arrest on drug charges. Since he is unable to raise bail, it appears that he will stay in jail. Even his wealthy father offers a pittance.

Diane is about to jump ship and join Alicia in her firm. She immediately is the defense lawyer for Cary when Alicia is denied this opportunity.

Alan Cummings is fabulous here as he tries to get Alicia to run for State Attorney General. Is the incumbent so angry about this that he is taking it out on Cary when he successfully asks the judge to question where the bail money is coming from?

Notice how Chris Noth appears much older in his role as governor?

Awesome start of a season

First thing first. Happy to see The Good Wife back. After the breathtaking fabulous season there are lot of expectations from this one. First episode seem to fulfil this expectations. With all the glorious cast back and delivery of excellent plot and writing Good Wife is undoubtedly the best thing on TV. Things weren't as expected and seems to be a good build-up episode. Alan is as usual at his best. Expecting to see Carrie Preston more in this season. Archie Punjabi(Kalinda) was given good screen time and very good plot. She gave justice to her character. After having low light in 5th season, she is the gem of the series creators cant oversee. Give her screen screen time and she will nail it. That's what this episode shows.

"We're coming for that Drama Series Emmy, cable shows beware!"

Starting from step one after a phenomenal, swirling, riveting fifth season is a challenge most shows probably wouldn't be able to do, but "The Good Wife" hit the ground running with its season six premiere and was just as shocking as "Dramatics, Your Honor" from the previous season. I thought "Everything is Ending", the season premiere from last year, was a beautifully composed episode, but "The Line" tops it by reconfiguring the tone and funneling the storyline to center on drama within its core characters.

There was nothing procedural about this episode, and though I'm sure the "case of the week" is not gone for good, it certainly will be taking backseat to the storyline involving the main characters. My guess is most of the episodes with a "case of the week" will look like the one from "A Material World", cases that are brief, are directly relate to the Alicia, Diane, or Cary's plight at the moment, and will be emotionally relevant and compelling.

The premiere seems to be setting up an enormous storyline for Cary, and as a fan of now six years, I can finally breath out with relief. Matt Czuchry is finally being put to good use and his acting in "The Line" is without a doubt his best work from the 113 episodes of the series. This storyline is also resurrecting Kalinda's vitality to the plot and waking up Archie Panjabi from her "sidekick" coma. Creators Robert and Michelle King have thrown jabs at cable shows and web series into scripts "The Good Wife", most prominently last season. What they did here was, take the grittiness of "True Detective", the suspense of "Breaking "Bad", and the bleakness of "House of Cards" and did each of those qualities better than said cable/web show.

"The Good Wife" season six has blood running through its veins like no other show its age or in its medium. Mostly shot with hand-held cameras, the show has never appeared more visually attractive, thanks in large part to the desolate jail cells / bright law office color contrast. Filled with metaphors and symbolism, the premiere was very sharply written and executed. "The Line" feels like a statement from the Kings saying, "We're coming for that Drama Series Emmy, cable shows beware!"

Cary's season?
flydxx22 September 2014
It seems like Cary is becoming another Will. First I think that after Will's death, Alicia will have to find an alternative partner, at least spiritual partner to be filled in her life and the show. But in the first episode of this season, Cary is designed to be put in the prison and forced to face serious charges. As a key partner of Florrick/Argos,Diane's perspective partner,Kalinda's "guy", a person who has certain relationship with Robyn, Cary makes so many women striving to rescue him. Is that a reward? The spotlight has been turned to Cary. And Matt's performance is also impressive. I like the scene when he was in the police station with a hand scoffed. He just strikes a perfect balance between outrage and lawyer's professional ration. I can read "this is ridiculous"from his face readily during the whole conversation with the detective.
