End of a hillarious season
SallyWilliams25 September 2020
I just discovered this series through the massive emmy success, and I love this first season. The family is so funny, especially Catherine O'Hara as Moira & Dan Levy as David. Their body language & mimic art is simply divine. I think this series is in a league with Arrested Development, and both share the starting theme of a financial crash. It is well balanced with comedy and a realness of the portrayed characters. Also the chemistry between Dan Levy & Emily Hampshire is very good. I especially enjoyed the portrayed pan-sexuality of his character, which is such a rarity in american tv culture. I'm already looking forward to the following seasons. A real comedy gem

Great Episode
Hitchcoc4 February 2021
Johnny and Moira go to a pig roast held by Roland. Roland pulls out a joint and they smoke and get totally stoned. David and Stevie go to a dinner party where people are so insensitive and uptight that you would need an ax to cut the tension. Mutt brings Twyla and Alexis is there with the Vet. There is a real layer of cluelessness. The episode ends with a hilarious scene with Johnny and Moira lecturing Stevie and David about sex while they are higher than kites. One of the best episodes.

Best episode of the 1st season
CubsandCulture13 December 2021
This is where the show finds its grove; all of the humor is entirely about the characters. There's nothing outlandish but everything grounded in human reality. The episode is known for the wine metaphor for sexual orientation; that brief conversation is highlight of the entire series because it is such a natural, easy way to explain pansexuality.

I really like that Johnny's reservations about David's relationships are merely about life being hard on him-it is less about societal disapproval and more about logistics. It is way of bringing up specter of queerphobia while maintaining the better world of Schitt's Creek. Roland's rejoinder to Johnny's concern has an earthy wisdom and it is such a beautiful expression of small town acceptance.

Schitts' Party and Ted's Dinner Party

Warning: Spoilers
Stevie and David are in bed reminiscing the sex they had. Johnny sees Stevie come out of the room with the heart bed. David speaks up and Johnny is surprised to see them together.

David is asked by Alexis how was his sex with Stevie. The parents come in and lecture them about pregnancy. Johnny says they have to wary of their hearts and parts. Moira says they cannot afford a baby right now.

Johnny wonders if his sexual encounters is a phase remembering David from college.

Waiting for Mutt and Twyla, Tom explains to David that his rooms are all bought together - they are former showcase rooms and he buys the whole room. David looks impressed.

At Ted's dinner party they all chew silently. Ted gestures a finger going into a hole meaning sex when explaining what is going on with David and Stevie. Stevie looks annoyed that so many know about it.

The mayor tells Johnny his son lives in a barn in the woods. He could become the next mayor if he wanted it. Johnny replies well his son is pansexual. He gives the definition - someone who likes males, females, males turned to females, females turned to males, everybody. He wanted an easy life for his son and says if maybe he just chose one gender it would be less confusing.
