The roots of rock n roll
Prismark1021 November 2015
This special one off documentary takes a look wry back at some of the pioneers of the Rock 'N' Roll with contributions from Robin Gibb, Marty Wilde, Green Day, Jools Holland, Tom Jones, Joe Brown, Paul McCartney, Jamie Callum and Cliff Richard.

The programme features the kings themselves. It starts out with Bill Haley, who really did look too old to be a rock n roll pioneer but came of age as it went younger with Elvis.

Then we have Chuck Berry with his riff, Little Richard who introduced flamboyance, Jerry Lee Lewis who kindled controversy and Buddy Holly with his songwriting skills.

The programme has input from people who were there at the time such as Bill Haley's original Comets, the Crickets, Buddy Holly's widow Maria Elena, Jerry Lee Lewis's former wife Myra Gail, Chuck Berry's son as well as former managers and record executives.

It is slightly tongue in cheek but a good zip through the roots of rock history.
