Loop competed as a finalist in both the 2012 Jackson Hole Science Media Awards for Best Institutional Media Installation and the 2013 Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival for Best Media Installation.
A ruby-throated hummingbird opens the film and is visiting the feeder entirely of his own volition. He was affectionately named "Hummy" by the filmmakers.
The narrator, Claude Mumbere, was only 17 years old at time of recording and immigrated from the Congo to the US only six years prior. He has also competed twice at the national level of the Poetry Out Loud competition. Many people hear his voice and think of James Earl Jones.
