Those Pommies Are A Bit Much
JoelChamp8517 March 2021
The shows a great platform for the potential of survival, but you have to deal with whining poms, which is a challenge for the viewer.

Better and tougher than Survivors
jboy_jman25 November 2020
This show is what Survivors should be. These people are left on the island with nothing more than a machete to fend for themselves. No playing games to win a trip or special dinner or other privileges like in Survivors show. These guys are the true survivors.

Will it survive toxic feminism?
guyi-1117818 February 2019
Absolutely great and truthful show, however it most likely wont survive toxic feminism. You can be reared up to beleive all the equality bs but put men in a situation and they thrive, the same cant be said for toxic woman. This truth however will be suppressed by the 'kill the patriarchy' agenda of toxic feminists .

Rich in sociology and psychology lessons
ricardo_rb8 January 2022
I see this show as a fascinating sociology experiment, especially season 5.

Of course the participants are not in actual life danger, of course they get helped, but still interesting to see the differences between the two groups and what this means in terms of what their behaviours probably are in the real world.

The best survival programme on TV.
Steve-000117 September 2021
Just watched the 1st Series. 13 men arrived at the island, and 13 men were there at the end. Just shows how strong men are without the distraction from women.

I really enjoyed Season 2 with the women on another Island
kateann102711 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was heart wrenchingly real and fascinating watching two separate islands with men and women solving real life lack of food and hydration issues. Its much more real than Survivor. No games for food here.

What a waste
natepritchard7819 December 2022
Watched 1 season (men vs women) and Bear Grylls literally had to save the women due to dehydration and at the end still had to say "they could have lasted 6 months". Way to kill all credibility you once had.

Such a shame that this is how Hollywood has decided they can show "equality". Even though anyone capable of any amount of independent thought can see right through the bull... I cant even bother tp watch the other seasons due to this. I know they'll continue to lie. Hell i would not be shocked if they decided to secretly help the women out of camera after seeing this nonsense of a season. Why cant he just say these women dod awful? Are women that weak that they would all take offense to that?

Lol. JK. We know that they are. Perpetual victims love being outraged.

Just watched season 2. Women Won!
dannyvera-540424 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
From my point of view, both the women and men had different problems, but by the end, the women were thriving and had such an abundance of food/water, that they began decorating their camp.

Spoilers below

Both camps had to have people taken off due to injury or illness.

But the men had three guys leave by choice early on. Another guy had to be taken off due to an injury to his arm. The two women who left, only left because they were too sick to go on.

Initial Problems: The men's problem was macho infighting to the point that two of their most valuable people left the island out of spite, and another out of homesickness This infighting was a major issue throughout the season for the men.

The women made the mistake of splitting up half the group and getting lost. It took them two days to get back together again.

Fire: The women were able to start a fire using the wooded rod with string method almost immediately and were successful multiple times. So much so that they wore it out and had to ask for another one from the supply team. Yes, they needed help from Bear Grylls team, but it was from over use of a valuable skill.

The men never figured out how to create fire from the wooden rod/string method and had to use someone's reading glasses to start the fire. They had to make sure the fire never went out, since it was the rainy season and no one would be able to use a magnifier on a cloudy day.

Water: The women did have an issue where they used one of their metal water cans to store pig meat. Which made the can stink when the meat rotted. Because their water intake was so low, they had to send urine samples back to the base camp. Base camp told them, they had to use the second can or be pulled off the island. So they did, and the problem was solved. There was no rescue involved here.

Fishing: Women were using the net from the start and were able to catch some fish, but it wasn't until they decided to elect two leaders, that they directed themselves to catch an abundance of fish, to the point that they had an excess.

The men kept fighting over who was doing the least amount of work, and started using the net only after someone had to prove it worked. But they never caught enough fish to keep the men from starving.

The men were essentially starving the entire season. Only by the end did they catch a relatively large pig to hold them over till they were taken off the island.

But the women had fishing with a net down to a science and had no issue with food by the end, they absolutely could have survived for much longer on the island, than the men by that point.

Review of Season 3
ijamesmoore27 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I'm so so so disappointed with this show. Instead of being about a group of people surviving on an island (as the show says it is), this show/season is just about a bunch of people sitting on the beach for 6 weeks bitching about each other and slowly starving to death. Below is a list of what is in the show that should not be, and a list of what is missing.

Things that ruin this show for me: People sitting around bitching about each other. All the time. Waiting 10 days before looking for food? So much sitting doing nothing, waiting to starve. So many camera shots of rude jokes, innuendos, loose bikinis, people pooping etc. What has any of that got to do with surviving on an island? 70% of each episode is like a cheap knock-off of "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here".

Things that are missing from this show: Where is the "right lets get water, and make beds, shelters, traps (land and sea). Where is the trying to "thrive"? Where is their urgency? Where is making things? Beds, Huts? Traps traps traps. Every day they should be proactive. Why no scavenger teams being sent out after storms? To find nets, ropes, pots, bottles, etc.? I could go on and on. There is just no proactive survival at all in this show/season 3. It's just cheap girl fights and bitching and drama. Like some cheap soap. (But on an island)

From day 3 or 4 onward they could have had food most (if not every) day. Lovely huts with raised beds, etc.

If it was me and my mates stuck on an island, we would go go go go until we had pretty much built a house, had a water and food supply and then sit back and enjoy.

Come on Bear Grylls, make a real island survival show and less of this reality TV drama rubbish.

Ps: Good job it's only 6 weeks of survival and not 10 weeks, because they would all be dead.

More 'fake' real TV
mognam27 May 2017
It is really disappointing that another fake real life show has been made. I wonder if Bear Grylls and the producers of this show take the general public for idiots.

The people on the show are under no real threat of their lives. There are professionals there with them to help in any given situation. The most annoying part of this show is the manufactured tension.

Just do a google search on 'The island Bear Grylls fake' and you will have answers on how the show is really done.

It gets 2 stars instead of 1 because some of the things I viewed were so stupid it made me laugh. 2 stars for the laugh.

Bear Grylls has a history of doing fake TV and this show has not helped him one bit.

Hang your head in shame Mr Grylls.

More like the most annoying show on the planet...
Irishchatter28 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I swear to god, I can't stand the bickering and the nonsense you have to be listening while watching this show. The only reason really you would be watching it is because of Bear Grylls' name on the title. I mean, if he thinks he's smart, he should've required every participant to be better at socialising and a brain! You would definitely want a show to enjoy, not to be depressing about. Sure, I know it's on an island and there's a lack of food around but for god sakes, the teams never stop moaning and yelling at each other. This actually reminds me of "I'm a Celebrity" but this is wayyyyyyy worse!

I don't understand why this got a 7.7 rating because I don't think it really deserves it in my opinion. That's why I've given this a 1 rating, it's just baloney and car trash :/

Shame on you!
lorin-288633 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Speaking for myself as an older, mature woman, I am absolutely disgusted with this so called 'reality' tv. I'd never seen it before,, so began watching the 1st episode which focused on how the women were doing. I understand that many/most of this cast has no/little experience in the wild, but that's no excuse for the lack of basic common sense. Every single moment of it so far is completely frustrating, to the point where I simply can't watch it anymore. Shame on Bear Grylis for producing such utter crap, trying to promote it as 'reality'.

A bit fake
jamescarson-3142013 May 2024
Season 2 review. First of all, the women all died twice. Nothing to celebrate there. Fakeness comes with "lucky moments" and "wild pigs." You don't just find and eat rusty cans of baked beans in the forest and not get botulism. And there's a big difference between wild pigs and domestic pigs. No chance in Hell you will sneak up on a wild pig just snoozing in the sun. Then the random fisherman who comes by and gives you food without compensation. It feels like nobody actually learned any survival skills at the end of it, men or women. Really, it's Naked and Afraid with half-wits in clothes. And an exercise in why Socialism doesn't work.
