Shooting took place during an extremely cold winter. Alfred Enoch got in the habit of wearing multiple scarves to keep warm, which was later incorporated as an ongoing aspect of his character's wardrobe.
Shooting of the scene where Wes walks in on Annalise and Nate having sex had to be stopped for a few minutes because Viola Davis hurt her back when Billy Brown shoved her into the wall a little too hard. It also required some sex scenes involving Annalise to be removed from the plans for later episodes.
Starting with S1E2 the title of each episode is said by a character in the episode. While S1E1 is titled 'Pilot' and no character says 'pilot', the title of the series is spoken by Annalise Keating as the informal name of her law class.
Peter Nowalk's original script has a few differences in character names. Annalise's last name is "DeWitt" rather than Keating, Connor is known as "Patrick Donahue," Laurel's last name is "Wilding," Frank's last name is "Delgado," Nate's last name is "Seidel," Griffin O'Reilly's first name is "Logan," and Sam is instead known as "Tom." While Asher's full name is present in the script, all of his lines of dialog identify him as "Doucheface."
The area on the campus of Middleton University, where Wes, played by Alfred Enoch and the other law students are disposing of the body shows an old trolley bridge in the background. It is an arched brick and stone tunnel that goes over a small creek. This distinctive Philadelphia-area architecture is in many scenes. The Fairmount Park Transit Company began in 1897, and by 1946, was defunct. But for 49 years, the trolley made 16 stops in West Park, including Chamounix - Chamounix Mansion - where this wooded campus scene was filmed. You can take a trail from Chamounix Mansion, cross that bridge - or climb down and check out the tunnel.
