Can You Live With What It's Become?
ThomasDrufke11 February 2015
It's clear that the show has forever changed. No longer is Oliver the only vigilante in Star City, and no longer do people follow everything he does. After a misstep last week, Arrow had one of it's better season 3 episodes tonight. It saw the return of Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/The Canary and it gave us great Thea and Laurel material. And with many big reveals, it seems as though we are starting to head down the home stretch of this season.

Other than the fact that there should be more than one cop handling Count Vertigo, I welcomed his return as an Arrow villain. Stormare gives us the creepy and frightening vibe that the previous Vertigo never could. It's sad though that this is likely the only way that Caity Lotz can appear in this show, but it was definitely effective. I have to say, I liked Laurel this episode. I think we're just going to have to accept her becoming a vigilante. As unbelievable as it may seem, Katie Cassidy performed really well this week. She once again proved her emotional range with both Ollie and her father. It was good to see her FINALLY telling her father about Sara. By the way that's back to back weeks that a woman in Oliver's life has set him straight.

It was assumed that Thea would find out sooner or later considering her brother and father are now training together. I really liked the way the writers handled her situation. Her character has come a long way since her whiny season 1 days. I'm also glad to see that boring DJ take a hike. Even after the reveal behind his character, it was painful watching his scenes with Thea. Her saying "I didn't ask for any of this" moment really hit home. It's pretty sad knowing just how many people in his life that Oliver has forever changed because of his previous decisions.

This episode was really well written that characters like Roy and Laurel who have previously been weak, had several great scenes. I really liked Roy standing up for Thea in the cave. There were just many great character moments this week. Even Diggle's one scene stayed true to who his character is. Star City has changed and Oliver is going to have to accept the changes if he wants to save this city. Roy and Malcom also shared a great moment saving Thea. Not to mention how much more believable Thea is now as a fighter. I mean, there wasn't a legitimate focus, but this episode was one of the better written and directed episodes of the series. It made me like things that I previously hated about this show. It's going to be interesting as Oliver in the flashbacks is now back in Starling, and Oliver in the present is now on the island. Did someone say Slade Wilson? My bet is on ARGUS letting him roam the island and set up his own training areas so he can be on the Suicide Squad later this season. But that's just me.

+Caity is back

+Thea's scenes

+I liked Laurel...

+Lance finally knows

+Well written

+Ollie 'returns' home

Felicity just annoys me to no end
kingsx_6418 August 2020
Sometimes she can be funny. Sometimes she can be cute. But mostly, I roll my eyes when she comes on screen. And that reduces my love for the show. Felicity says to Oliver, ' you do not have the right to come back here and question everyone's choices'. I find this an odd line for her to say considering last week that's exactly what she did. Repeatedly. Felicity doesn't want this. So you shouldn't. Felicity doesn't like that, so you can't. In fact, if you count, Felicity gave 6 ultimatums last week. Don't believe me? Rewatch and count for yourself. There's a difference between trying to show a female character as strong, and simply making her annoying. And no one on this show annoys me more then her character. Threaten to leave? Ok,, see ya, don't let the door etc... Except for my excessive dislike for Felicity, the rest of the episode was great. Other reviewers don't like the Laurel character. I do. Others complain she doesn't have enough training to be a superhero. She doesn't. But when they say she couldn't possibly win any fights, this is where they are letting their dislike of a character cloud their judgement. Because she never wins. What are the Laurel haters seeing? Cause the rest of us aren't seeing her beating everyone up. Just the opposite. She lands a few, then gets knocked down or out. Trying to be a superhero, doesn't make you one. And so far she isn't

Cracking episode!
yvonneshusband5 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
After the stupidity of last week's 'Uprising', this week we get a 'why can't they all be this good?' sort of episode! Laurel confronts her issues about her sister's demise through being injected with Vertigo (twice!)and in resolving them, seems to have found her feet as a crime-fighter. Oliver finally tells Thea the truth, to find that she is overjoyed that her brother is actually the city's hero, rather than an ex-billionaire wastrel (one of the best scenes in the show so far, in my humble opinion). It was also interesting to see Oliver's former 'team' demonstrate that they're not just there to take orders anymore; the way they had to adapt to his apparent death having changed the way they see themselves, while at the same time Oliver's leadership in creating a team that could carry on once their leader had apparently fallen was another very good touch. Thea's disappointing performance when actually fighting for her life for the first time post-training struck a duff note, however, since it had never been suggested before now that her fears were inhibiting her; it would have been better if her lack of killer instinct (which has been mentioned several times) had resulted in her being overpowered even though she had gained the upper hand. Also, if Capt Lance can figure out who every other member of 'Team Arrow' is, how come he still can't add two and two and come up with Oliver?

I'm not loving the new dynamic
Njeanchristian26 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This show is one of the most authentic, and well rated superhero shows of all time but it's starting to embrace a new vibe that's seriously making me reconsider. The fact that Oliver queen spent years on the Island, then Hong Kong and Russia being trained, tortured and that all these events shaped him into the killing machine he is makes sense.

And somehow explains how only with a bow and arrow he would be able to fight dangerous criminals with gun and easily overcome them. Sarah Lance had the league training her and Diggle was in the army. But Laurel, only had simple self defense and boxing training and I do not agree with the fact that after a few month she is deemed worthy to fight alongside Oliver with nothing but a police stick!? Where are we? Not everyone can just wear a mask and go out to fight crime?? That is preposterous among other things.

Secondly Roy raising his voice at Oliver because he asked his "own" sister to step aside, and questioning Oliver's choices about Malcom just came across disrespectful! And felicity blaming him for being dead and saying that he doesn't get to make decisions no longer because he was gone for a month??! He is the arrow, it is his crusade. The one time he left them alone they managed to almost undo all his work in a week. And now they all yell at him?! He's the boss and should assert himself as such.

I get how the show is trying to make some of the other characters relevant but it's taking a lot out of the original dynamic that made it so special and they should be aware of that. Laurel should stay a lawyer it makes no sense and she doesn't have the charisma or the background to be the Canary in sorry. Roy should be at his place and they should be grateful that Oliver is back not hate him for almost dying and changing everything.

He should let them be for a while, since they think they can do so well. And they should keep in mind that it's called Team arrow! Not team "Roy Felicity Laurel" and that everyone can make a difference but not everyone can be a masked vigilan! It's getting preposterous and I'm not loving it really! Laurel should stay in the court room, and the arrow should assert himself as the boss! And be right once in a while. After all no one else has his experience or abilities. That should count for something.

I dislike Luaral
mansursherrer2 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I rate this episode a 0 but sadly 1 is the lowest you can go. I hate this episode because it focuses on Luaral and she just so happens to be my most hated character on Television these days. Actually i don't mind raking this episode a 1 because i enjoyed watching her get beaten up. I disliked her character since the first episode and now she's black-canary lol. If they made another episode focusing on her i would drop Arrow.

I love the show and it will be would be my loss if i drop it, but they seriously need to fire her. She is the reason why this show is watchable and not lovable.

+she was beaten =1 -she was the main character here =9
