Long Live Team Arrow
ThomasDrufke15 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Tonight was one of those episodes of Arrow that I know I really liked, yet I also really hated. But not hated because any of it was bad, more like I hated what the producers decided to do with some characters. Season 2 had high stakes and characters died but it was done for good reason. Some of the directions that this season has gone have involved decisions with characters that I just don't think are necessary. I always talk about which Avenger may be killed off in Age of Ultron, but now thinking about it, I'm not sure I want anyone to die. I think you can create high stakes without anybody dying and I think Arrow is struggling with that right now.

To begin with what the episode starts with, I was really happy to see Roy take the hit for Ollie. I think it's a terrific character moment for him and Colton Haynes nailed it. He's had so many ups and downs over the past few years that I was glad that if they decided to send his character off (Haynes contract is up), they did it in a heroic way. Lance was on Team Arrow's a** tonight as he pursued Oliver's lair, which can now be considered no longer usable. On the other hand, Ray took a leadership role this week out in the field with the new and improved ATOM suit. The whole video game like scenario was a bit cheesy but I have grown to really like Palmer, and especially him with the team. He had a great back and forth banter with Ollie throughout the episode. It was also a great time to see Oliver and Diggle exchange pushes. Of course that led to another great Olicity moment with the "you're the man....you're the man I believe in" line.

With everything going on, we also had an actual villain, Deathbolt, doing god knows what. We never got a sense of his intentions nor did I really care. I really just wanted to see more of the great character conflict and interactions we were getting. Though he gave us another brief crossover with Cisco appearing at the end, keeping Deathbolt in the STAR LABS holding cells. But the true ending of tonight was the shocking reveal that both Roy is pretty much gone, and Thea is dead (for now). For some reason the shock value wasn't as high for Thea and I'm not sure why. But I think it's pretty evident that she's not gone for good. The preview for the next episode saw Ollie carrying her into Nanda Parbat and presumably, the pit. I do wonder how they are going to approach the whole resurrection thing. We also did briefly see Caity Lotz as Canary in that preview in the background. Could this mean somehow she gets resurrected as well? I think it's doubtful, but it was a great tease. So as far as I'm concerned this week gave us one of the more unexpected episodes of the entire series, but it also ticked me off quite a bit. But that's Arrow for you.

+Deep character moments

+Roy's heroic exit

+ATOM-Ollie banter

+Small crossover

-Don't get obsessed with killing characters off. Have reasons for it

-Deathbolt unnecessary

The Best Episode of Season 3
cdjhood27 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Wow that was my reaction the second this episode finished. This had everything a great villain, good story, intensity, real consequences and great performances. I thought for sure that Roy was going to die he was is my favorite character and every time we saw him in prison my heart couldn't stop beating. I was really sad that he left but it's was better than him dying. Deathbolt the shows first meta human villain and wow was he great. Ray got his moment to shine beating him and the fight was excellent. Theas fight with Ra's Al Ghul was really intense as well even thought we saw it in the trailer I completely forgot about it. I was so scared when TheA died (even thought she survived in the much less impressive next episode). If I had to compare this to another episode of another show it would have to be the red wedding on game of thrones (even if it wasn't as brutal). I disagreed with most of he IGN episode reviews this year but when they said this episode was a disappointment I was so angry. So as you can tell I loved this episode one of if not the best episode of Arrow.

Ray learns to be a hero from Oliver
yvonneshusband18 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I have to say I really liked this episode, although it automatically loses a star from me because there's no Katrina in it this week. Roy taking the fall for Oliver, then escaping using the old 'nerve paralyser on the knife' trick worked a hell of a lot better than it should have, mostly due to how it was executed, so 'well done' to cast and crew! This episode also finally convinced me that Brandon Routh isn't just channelling Christopher Reeve, he's actually playing Palmer as a super-intelligent Clark Kent! His almost inane babble to the villain, when he should have been assessing the situation and weighing up tactical options actually made me revise my assessment of how easily Oliver put him down in the 'Suicidal Tendencies' episode; he had it coming for going into battle with an amateur's appreciation of how to fight. Luckily for him, Oliver was on hand to finally push him in the right direction, his takedown move worked really well on screen, though I still think the suit is too clumsy and cheap looking. I'm knocking another star off because of that Felicity hussy; she was practically panting for Oliver even while Ray was standing next to them. Ra's fatally injuring Thea (I assume it's an injury) was a masterstroke, since Oliver has only one option to save her. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this works out!

Ray Palmer is simply annoying
gca_3616 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Well, all in all I liked this episode of Arrow and all this "you-have-to-learn-let-people-help-you"-thing going on. A meta-human as a villain was okay, but to me his motivation being in Starling City was totally unclear.

The twist with Roy's death was a good one. And making the team a bit smaller again won't hurt either I guess. Ras "killing" Thea was a good cliffhanger. Maybe the team will get even smaller, but I doubt it.

Concerning Ray, I simply don't like this character. Eversince they introduced him to the show, he goes on my nerves. Well, I understand they had to do something after the Ollie-Felicity romance was cut off, but I'm not sure if this Ray character is a good replacement for that. I hope he'll be out of the show soon. There were a few indications for it.

Broken Arrow
SpideyVerse2320 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After the game-changing events of the previous episode, Roy is arrested and sent to Iron Heights while Oliver is let free. A new metahuman emerges in Starling City but since Lance is still out to prove Oliver is the Arrow, he is forced to ask Ray for help. It ends up being a very fun plot since Oliver ends up teaching Ray some things required for him to be ATOM.

Meanwhile, Roy struggles in prison, despite him feeling at peace for murdering the cop last season. Despite Oliver insisting on breaking him out of prison, Felicity and Diggle stop him. There are quite a few twists in this storyline which I did not expect but it all flows smoothly.

The ending, however, was unexpected again but looks like Ra's has finally trapped Oliver into accepting Ra's offer.
