A Superb Show With One Odd Issue
neener370716 January 2018
Set in Afghanistan during a sensitive national election for the first time in 60 years. Following US ground troops, Afghani Army soldiers, and higher up military officials as they attempt to both control Taliban supply lines from Pakistan as well as secure the city of Kabul so the election goes off without any issue. We get to see the inner workings of both low level and high level security forces as they secure Kabul and we get to see combat on the front lines of various Taliban strongholds in the country.

It is an unflinching look at both combat and civilian relations, perfectly paced to keep you interested in the various story lines from start to finish. My only criticism is the use of possible special FX in combat footage, I noticed tracer rounds and bullet impacts that look suspiciously fake. I don't want to believe it but having seen many combat documentaries, I couldn't help but notice how out of place and fake it looked. But it only happens a few times and is no real hindrance on the show.

Regardless of that one small issue, it is a fantastic show that is definitely worth a watch.

The Closet to War you will Ever get!!!!

Warning: Spoilers
The CLOSEST you can get to War in Afghanistan with out going! This is NO Hollywood Movie! The Fighting Season is as unique as it is powerful. We've all seen war docs by now, some good and some flat. What all those others have in common is a small, very limited perspective on what those soldiers experience. The Fighting Season is EPIC. We see the war in Adghanistan from varied and different perspective, all of them compelling and unique to those soldiers whose missions we follow. From Col Graham whose embedded within the Capital City Kabul's Para-Military Police force, Cops With RPG's, to hunting a Terrorist named Artic Fox with Task Force White Devil from the storied 82nd Airborne Division, to Following the Afghan Army on a search and Destroy Mission in Afghanistans deadliest Valley, The Tangi Valley. And the Wickedest Fire Fight I've ever seen as a young platoon runs low on Ammunitikn as the Taliban closes in on them. The viewer is immersed into what the Afghanistan War looks, tastes and feels like. The upcoming episode that takes the viewers into the Drone War, yes you heard me right, Drones are called in to follow Taliban fighters on motorcycles thru the deserts and eliminate them. This is REAL...RAW and is as Entertaining as anything I've ever seen! The ULTIMATE look at the men who fight and HOW they fight Americas War in Afghanistan

Great show.

Got hooked on this show this week - looking forward to next Tuesday!

The Fighting Season is a six-episode documentary created and produced by Ricky Schroeder, who along with three camera crews, spent over 100 days encamped with American troops in the midst of war with the Taliban in the run-up to last year's historic Afghan presidential elections.

The Americans' focus is on keeping the Taliban at bay, so the Afghan people can feel safe voting in the upcoming national elections. It's a critical aspect of the country moving forward on its own, after the US occupation.

Really great show that you can watch if you have directv.

Gives Great Insight Into The Reality On The Ground

Having never been in the service I got a lot from watching this documentary on how it really is in an environment like Afghanistan. Seems like an impossible job and they are working it for sure. It is easy to see why it takes decades to get a place like Afghanistan to progress to something better if it can be done at all.
