Exclusive: Tom Toumazis, a former Disney and Endemol Shine executive, is to become the non-executive chair of Snipple Group, the Philippines-based animation studio that has worked on series including Where’s Waldo? and Dora And Friends: Into the City!.
Toumazis’ appointment follows Deadline revealing in January that Snipple is launching an originals unit in the UK with £6M ($8.3M) of backing from investment firm Bgf. It already has a number of shows ready to take to market, including children’s titles Peeled Prawn & Shaved Sheep and comedy-action road trip series Trippin’.
Toumazis worked as the EVP and managing director for Emea and Canada of Disney ABC ESPN Television between 2001 and 2009, before going on to become the chief commercial officer of Endemol for more than two years. Exclusive: ICM Partners has signed Valerie Walsh Valdes and Leslie Valdes and will represent the couple, who co-created and executive produce Nick Jr.’s Santiago of the Seas, in all areas.
Valerie is most known for co-creating and executive producing Nickelodeon’s iconic children series Dora The Explorer. She has also served to co-create and executive produce spinoffs Go, Diego, Go and Dora And Friends. She is currently developing a reboot of Dora the Explorer.
As a showrunner, Valerie has produced more than 300 half hours of animated television, seen in over 150 countries, and translated into 30 languages. Additionally, she has won a Peabody Award for Outstanding Children’s Programming, multiple NAACP Image Awards, Imagen Awards and Parent’s Choice Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards.
Leslie kicked off his television professional career as a staff writer for Dora the Explorer. He also served as the head writer and producer of Disney Junior’s The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

London-based CEO Kaine Patel quietly hatched Snipple Originals last year, hiring veteran Karina Stanford-Smith as animation development director. Vincent James was brought on as creative director. The unit is now ready to announce itself to the world, with Bgf taking a minority stake.
Patel founded Snipple more than a decade ago and the move into originals represents the realization of a plan that he first mapped out in 2012. He has a long-standing relationship with former Zodiak Kids and Beano Studios producer Stanford-Smith, who has been engaged on a freelance basis by Snipple over the years.
