Most thrilling episode of the entire series.
nisiththesuspense16 August 2015
Hannibal show at its finest , this episode was extremely well made it was the finest hour of television , the creativity used in this episode was top notch special thanks to Michael Rymer. The first 20 minutes of the episode was downright creepy it was such thrilling that i was jumping out of my seats at that moment and shouting no Francis no but due the great presence of mind Molly saved herself and his son but who could be saved totally from the wrath of the Dragon so she was hurt but she lived which was very satisfying.

Next 20 minutes was about the Will's reaction to the events occurred, then about Dolharyde breakdown as he failed to kill Will's family and then about the breakup between Reba and Dolharyde. First about Dolharyde breakdown , the physical torture was so well interpreted that you would feel sorry for him and hats up to Richard for the truly exceptional acting, he is the best Dolharyde among any adaptation for me. Then the interaction between Will and molly was so beautiful and the acting of Nina Arianda was outstanding , ten occurred the breakdown between Dolharyde and Reba in a deemed red lightning surrounding which was just perfect and was so heartbreaking as Reba thought she is a burden is the reason for the breakup without knowing the real reason that Dolhayde is sacrificing her love so that she is not consumed by the Dragon. And last but not the least the confrontation between Will and Hannibal was so intense and satisfying that is beyond words to explain and it was such a funny moment when will said Hannibal and his accomplice as the crazy sons of bitches and it was downright creepy when Hannibal said about giving will's address to Dolharyde .

But the last i forgot to mention was Hannibal behind mask , the scene made me relived the moment of Hopkins scene in the silence of the lamb. In overall this episode was excellent and the most thrilling episode of not only this season but of the entire series.

Hannibal brings it intensity and terror to extreme new heights
ryanjmorris3 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
If last week's Hannibal demonstrated the show's wonderful ability to achieve greatness through its dialogue, this installment shows how it hits those same stratospheric heights through atmosphere and intensity. I would very happily label this excellent episode the most intense and horrifying forty-five minutes the show has put out since Mizumono; Dolarhyde's attack on the Graham household, Francis fighting himself and the Dragon, the monitored phone call between Lecter and Dolarhyde, and Will and Hannibal's final showdown in the episode's close. And the Beast From the Sea might not have reached the superbly dizzying heights of Digestivo, but that doesn't stop it from being a superlative episode in its own right. It was intense, it was thrilling, it was dark. It was Hannibal at its ultimate best.

Whilst a lot of this episode did focus on dialogue in the ways that we've come to expect from this show now, And the Beast From the Sea was dominated almost solely by Dolarhyde's attack on Molly and Walter. I can't quite pinpoint one element of this scene that made it so horrifically intense, perhaps it was simply just the combination of everything: Dolarhyde's cloaked, masked appearance; the dark, shadowy lighting; the wild sense of unpredictability that truly meant that Molly or Walter could have been killed; that electrifying soundtrack. Everything came together in this scene to create the most intense set piece the show has offered since Lecter's household in the season two finale; the fact that Molly and Walter left alive is just the icing on the cake, really. I've come to enjoy Molly's brief but satisfactory moments of screen time, and knowing what she means to Will I would be devastated should anything happen to her.

But this is one of my favourite things about Hannibal; it does not need to kill people in order to create a shocking moment. Returning to the final sequence of Mizumono even now, knowing what season three has told us, those events are still as harrowing and horrible despite the fact that three of the four victims survived. This episode didn't claim the life of any regular or even side character, yet still pulled out shock after shock to keep the narrative soaring forward at the extreme pace it is currently at. After Molly survived her attack, she states to Will that she blames Jack Crawford for this happening to her and her son, and Will agrees. But Will knew what would happen should he return to Lecter, and to some extend, so did Molly. When Will left her a few episodes ago to begin hunting the Dragon, he told Molly he would not be the same when he returned, to which Molly replied "I will". What was once a nicely emotional piece of dialogue has now been twisted into a sucker punch of fear and terror. I can only hope Molly, and Walter and Will for that matter, all make it through this alive.

But as dominating as these sequences were, we also must focus on the Dragon himself. Dolarhyde cut off his connections with Reba McClane in this episode in fear of hurting her; she takes it the wrong way, but she does not know what he does. As vicious and murderous as Francis Dolarhyde is, both Fuller in his writing and Armitage in his performance have managed to completely sell him as a sympathetic character. Despite all that we know he has done, and all he could potentially do, it is a funny kind of nice to see him finding comfort and sanctuary in his conversations with Lecter, both real and imaginary. But this is what makes it so upsetting that Lecter is prepared to manipulate Dolarhyde into killing people for him, Hannibal may also be one of few likable psychopathic serial killers, but that is merely in his charm and choice of words. His actions and motivations are what make him such a frightening individual. Will confronted Hannibal at the close of this episode, questioning his motives for leading Dolarhyde to his family. Hannibal simply asks Will if he, like himself, craves change. Does he?

Jack Crawford, Fisher Of Men. Watching My Cork Move Against The Current.....
wandernn1-81-6832748 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
LOL... Begin this episode with Graham in Crawfords office. 'He ate a Painting.' Bahahahaha. Bloom suggests that maybe they could drive Dolarhyde to suicide if he is this nuts. Graham interjects, that he doesn't think that's going to happen. Graham admits to Crawford that Lecter is the one who told Graham where to find D. And Lecter definitely knows who the Dragon is.

Flashback to when Lecter actually 'treated' Dolarhyde as a patient. No Nevermind, the 'treatment' is actually going on over the phone! Lecter tells Dolarhyde that Graham has a family. 'Save Yourself. Kill Them All.'

+1 Star once again for the opening sequences.

Dolarhyde once again has magnificent visions of his 'Dragonhood'. But then a scene with D and Reba. D watches his home movies he made of the Leeds family. Reba alongside. Reba of course has no clue what D is watching. She cannot see the film.

+1 Star for adding the creepiness factor here to the story, even if straight out of the book.

Flip to Mrs. Graham having to bring their dog to the vet. Ruh Roh. Red Flag!!!! The profile of D's murders he did something to the dogs first before the killings!!!!

Next a meeting with Lecter and Graham, where Lecter basically spells it out to Will that his family is in danger.

At the Graham residence, D is coming into the House. Mrs. Graham, hears something, and with an amazing display of aptitude, manages to get herself and the kid away from D. She is shot in the escape but makes it to the hospital.

Dr Bloom Confronts Lecter, she has found out that the phone calls Lecter has been getting from his 'lawyer' are actually from The Great Red Dragon. Crawford wants Lecter to use the phone contact loophole to get to the Dragon.

Then a scene where Dolarhyde fights his internal beast. Giving himself a nice beating.

So then a scene where D tells Reba he's afraid that he's going to hurt her. Reba tells D to grab his hat and go then.

And Lecter gets D on the phone. Lecter warns D that they are listening, but the trace already is gone thru. Too bad it only reveals that D is still one step ahead of them with the phone hack he used.

Then a brilliant scene between Graham and his wife, Molly is it? In the hospital. She's obviously a good woman. Standing by her man. They realize together that it is a slippery slope to be a good person.

+1 Star for that scene and the writing.

At the end, we get another scene between Lecter and Graham. Lecter admits to Graham that he told D to kill Graham's family and gave D Graham's home address. Lecter feels he is saving Will. Don't you crave change, Will???

A finer episode than most, this one ends with a 8/10

A tad slow but great, nonetheless
onion_bums17 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a bit slow throughout. Regardless to say, it still ranks among the best episodes of the show.

Hannibal shows his dominance over everyone and dictates how he is still in charge even from behind bars. I had a gut feeling that Molly would be killed. Well, she survived this time although injured.

Richard Armitage just continues to amaze me with each and every episode. His portrayal of a psychopath is one of the best I have ever seen.

We see parallels from various other episodes. "They're listening" can be compared to "They know" from the very first episode of the show (when Hannibal calls up Hobbs).

With just two episodes left, I have high hopes for the ending.

Good Episode [8.4/10]

Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Hannibal Season 3 Episode 11: Episode 10 was great and I gave it a rating of 8.5/10. Hannibal telling Francis that Will has a family too, and then he said ''Kill them all'', so evil. Why would Hannibal want to destroy Will's life like that? I didn't expect him to do that. Reba has such a kind personality, I hope that Francis wont hurt her. Did Francis poison the dogs? Francis is really mad that he wasnt able to kill them, I wonder what will be his next move. Francis doesn't need help, he gave himself a beating. It sucks that the relationship between Reba and Francis was doomed from the start. Hannibal wears the mask for the first time, nice, nice. Overall a good episode, my rating is 8.4/10.

Tedious
ComradWinston2 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Largely nonsubstantive filler and plot-pushing. The action sequence was contrived and uncharacteristically merciful, as if the Story Gods informed the victim beforehand that the Badguy™ was coming. Sacrificing the driver as if to sate the quota of violence.

Cheap and largely pointless episode beyond the Dragon's development moving forward a bit.

Sub-par writing
rgrimmig9 March 2022
Not just by the standards of this show itself, the writing falls apart here with a handful of glaring plot holes, character errors, and some of them even wrapped in fairly unpolished, in-your-face dialogue.

Lips are gonna get ripped off
gedikreverdi7 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Will and Chilton try to make the red dragon angry to be able to catch him. He abducted Chilton. He ate his lips and sent them to Hannibal and he ate one of the lips. Then he burnt Chilton on a wheelchair in the street (I remember this scene from the movie). Then he abducted the photographer lady Reba. He comes across as a loser indeed like Chilton said. Will set up Chilton and used him as a bait.
