Storyline is picking up - Spoiler Alerts

Without going in to any plot, I'm still not quite satisfied with this "returning from retirement" episode. The writers seem to be struggling with making this return for Robbie graceful. And Hathaway still seems to resent his return. That's very sad. They seemed to have a lot better relationship last season than this season. Hathaway seems unable now to learn anything from Robbie. This greatly diminishes Robbie's stature as the star of the show and it does nothing for Hathaway either. It seems really hard for them to work as equals. Why oh why did the show last season end with Robbie going in to retirement? It also doesn't seem to work smoothly between Robbie and Hobson. There seems no logical reason for her to be resentful or drag her feet about Robbie going back to work on the force. Hope the writers can resolve this problem but don't know how. As to the mystery itself, this one seems more tightly and satisfyingly written than episode 1 of season 7. I wish they had brought Robbie back out of retirement and had him work to convince Hathaway to come back as his junior rather than force Robbie to have to work for a resentful Hathaway. Doesn't seem to work or make a lot of sense.
