During HBO‘s executive and programming shakeup earlier this year, one of the projects that sadly got scrapped was “Hunger” and “12 Years A Slave” director Steve McQueen‘s “Codes Of Conduct.” The six-episode limited series would’ve starred newcomer Devon Turrell, Paul Dano, Helena Bonham Carter and Rebecca Hall, however the powers at be at the network decided not to move forward with it.

It's been a bit of an up and down time this year for fans of director Steve McQueen. His HBO series "Codes Of Conduct" was scrapped by the network, while his one-take video for Kanye West's "All Day/I Feel That" appeared briefly online only to be taken down. But now comes a new detour from the director, and while it's not a feature film, it'll hold us over until news comes about what he's working on next. McQueen has lensed the new ad for the fragrance Mr. Burberry, marking the first commercial he's ever made. And he went big. The romantic, three-minute spot starring British actor and musician Josh Whitehouse and British model/actress Amber Anderson was shot on 70mm, and McQueen embraced the challenged of the gig. "It was different because I had to get the Mr. Burberry bottle in the film. What was different is that...

HBO has become famous in recent years for scrapping high-profile projects developed with major filmmakers, and today they've just done it again.
THR reports that HBO has scrapped "Codes of Conduct," its six-episode event series from "Shame" and "12 Years a Slave" director Steve McQueen who would have directed all six episodes. As such only a pilot was shot.
The show was to explore a young African-American man with a mysterious past entering New York high society. Newcomer Devon Terrell was to star alongside Paul Dano, Helena Bonham Carter, and Rebecca Hall. It's not clear why the network passed on the project, but it has been added to the scrap heap alongside two series by David Fincher ("Utopia," "Videosyncrazy") which are now dead with Fincher heading back to his "House of Cards" home at Netflix.
Those high profile cancellations come on top of reports of troubled productions that have required major re-tooling,...

HBO has presently hit a very rough patch. While the network has renewed "Vinyl" for a second season, Martin Scorsese's expensive show (the two hour pilot cost $30 million, and the entire first season $100 million) premiered to low ratings and unimpressive critical notices. A double helping of David Fincher projects, "Videosyncrazy" and "Utopia," have been stalled, the miniseries "Lewis And Clark" ran into production problems, and just last month, Jonathan Nolan's "Westworld" hit pause to address concerns about the project. And now, another high profile show has been abandoned. THR reports that Steve McQueen's "Codes Of Conduct," which was granted a six-episode limited series order last spring, has ceased production. Newcomer Devon Turrell and Paul Dano, Helena Bonham Carter and Rebecca Hall were to star in a drama centering on Queens youth Beverly Snow, who mixes with Manhattan's...

The bad news is that we're probably not getting a new feature film from Steve McQueen for a while. The good news? He's found a new home for long-form storytelling on television. HBO has already ordered up the six-part limited series "Codes Of Conduct," and now the BBC is giving the director another canvas to tell a sprawling story. Screen Daily reports that McQueen will co-write and direct an untitled drama for the BBC that will track the lives of black Britons living in West London, from 1968 to the present day. The project was first announced a little over a year ago, but things are now moving ahead in earnest, with a spring 2016 shoot getting lined up, and the hunt is on for writers to tackle the scripts. In short, there are two new TV series coming from Steve McQueen and all we can say is: hell yes. And don't...

Even with Steve McQueen busy for the next little while thanks to HBO ordering six-episodes of the "Codes Of Conduct" limited series — which he'll direct every installment of — he's not letting some of his brewing projects just sit around and collect dust. In fact, one of them just landed a high profile screenwriter. "Gone Girl" scribe, and new David Fincher fave (she's also penning his upcoming TV series "Utopia"), Gillian Flynn, has been tapped to write McQueen's "Widows." The film is an adaptation of the 1980s Brit TV series that centers on the widows of three armed robbers, killed during a heist, who use their late husbands' plans for the failed robbery to pull it off themselves, rounding up a fourth woman to assist. Flynn will co-write the movie with McQueen, who will also produce. While this one probably is a bit of a way off, we're just glad it's...

Following a ruling last month that the Television Academy would only consider half hour shows eligible for the comedy category at the Emmys, a panel of nine analysts have now begun handing down the rulings for exemptions in the selection process. The panel, which was set up to determine the category assignment of hour-long shows that appealed their placement in drama, has now ruled, as per Variety, that the Fox show Glee, the Showtime series Shameless, and the CW series Jane The Virgin can compete as comedies at the upcoming primetime Emmys. The decision will apply to all categories, from Acting to Directing, and so on.
One show that notably wasn’t granted a waiver, however, is the Netflix serial Orange Is The New Black. The series, which revolves around the inhabitants of a women’s prison, was categorised as a comedy at last year’s Primetime Emmys, where it picked up three wins.

Since 2013, Hunger helmer Steve McQueen has been developing a project for HBO that the cable giant has since qualified for a limited series order. McQueen will direct all six episodes of Codes Of Conduct, which Deadline dubs “an exploration of a young African-American man’s experience entering New York high society, with a past that might not be what it seems.” The director collaborated on the scripts with World War Z co-writer Matthew Michael Carnahan.
Casting on the series has already begun with a small-yet-impressive bunch of names now attached. Paul Dano, Helena Bonham Carter and Rebecca Hall will co-star with newcomer Devon Terrell set to lead. Codes Of Conduct will revolve around Terrell’s character, Beverly Snow, who is described as “a young man from Queens as talented as he is ambiguous. As if you didn't have enough reasons already to tune into HBO, maybe this one well get you to add the channel to your cable package or sign up for their new streaming service: Steve McQueen has a limited series on the way. Deadline reports that HBO has given an order to "Codes Of Conduct," a six-episode limited series that will be fully directed by McQueen, from a script co-written with Matthew Michael Carnahan ("World War Z"). Starring newcomer Devon Turrell, Paul Dano, Helena Bonham Carter, and Rebecca Hall, the show centers on Queens youth Beverly Snow, who breaks into Manhattan's elite high society, a world much different than the one he was born into. This sounds like lots of rich thematic material for McQueen to play with, and we're excited to see what he'll do with six hours to tell a story. No word yet on an airdate, but...

It might be a little while before we get another feature film from Steve McQueen. He's currently at work on his HBO pilot, "Codes Of Conduct," and only after that will he get cracking on his all female heist flick, "Widows." So, perhaps it's time to take another look at "Shame," and this time from a slightly different angle. A new video essay by Kingdom Of Shadows argues that "Shame" is actually a critique of the modern metropolis, and that Michael Fassbender's sexual addiction in the movie is a metaphor for the bigger theme at play. Using clips from film, along with context form Woody Allen's "Manhattan," Martin Scorsese's "Taxi Driver," and interview footage with McQueen, the eight-minute look at the movie is a compelling, well-reasoned alternate theory about the picture. It's sure to spark some debate, so watch below and leave your thoughts in the comments section.

Steve McQueen has been set to write and direct a heist thriller based on the 1980s British miniseries Widows for New Regency. Iain Canning and Emile Sherman will produce with McQueen, and preproduction likely will kick off before year’s end. In the 1983 ITV six-part series written by Prime Suspect scribe Lynda La Plante, four armed robbers are killed during a robbery and their surviving widows come together to try to finish the failed job. A sequel mini came two years later.
McQueen, who directed the Best Picture Oscar winner 12 Years A Slave, is at work on the HBO drama pilot Codes Of Conduct, a provocative exploration of a young black man’s experience entering New York high society. It just found its lead in newcomer Devon Terrell after a 10-month search.
