Finally, Disney+’s Star Wars: The Bad Batch has its priorities sorted.
The first two seasons’ cameo-heavy Mission of the Week format quickly grew stale, but as creator Dave Filoni, supervising director Brad Rau and head writer Jennifer Corbett disappeared deeper into their Disney-sponsored sandbox, it became clear that this wasn’t merely a graveyard of shameless walk-backs or desperate reinforcements of messy canon. The Bad Batch was always about underdogs, about displaced war heroes struggling to survive in a galaxy that has no need for them.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" season 3, episode 15, "The Cavalry Has Arrived."
"The Cavalry Has Arrived" is a fitting title for the end of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch," the animated series that was as much a continuation of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" as it was its own distinct show. Revolving around the genetically altered Clone Force 99, as first introduced in "The Clone Wars," "The Bad Batch" spent three seasons offering us a window into the plight of clones in the days and years following the creation of the Empire and how these particular clones were able to carve their niche in the galaxy. One of the key motivators for this group of former Republic special forces is Omega. She's a special clone and vital to the Emperor's plans to clone himself should something happen to him. Her blood seems to be the only sample...

This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 episode 15.
After a rollercoaster journey of three seasons and 47 episodes, Star Wars: The Bad Batch has finally come to an end. The beloved Clone Force 99 have hung up their helmets in an epic 50-minute finale that rounds off their stories while also setting up the future of the galaxy far, far away. Things come to a head in the aptly named “The Cavalry Has Arrived,” which serves as an emotional swansong for our titular troupe of outcast clones.
The Zillo Beasts Returns and Tech Doesn’t
All roads lead to Mount Tantiss, and following last week’s cliffhanger ending, Crosshair, Hunter, and Wrecker (all voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) launch a rescue mission alongside former Imperial Vice Admiral Rampart (Noshir Dalal). Meanwhile, Echo (Baker) finds himself inside the base and working with Dr. Emerie Karr (Keisha Castle-Hughes), who’s had a change of heart.

The third and final episodes of Star Wars: The Bad Batch will conclude the series, and as such, fans are eagerly awaiting its release on Disney+. Not too long after the conclusion of the second season, it was confirmed that the animated spin-off Star Wars: The Clone Wars would wind up with season 3.
Because of this, the third season’s plot was immensely considerable, involving The Bad Batch’s characters coping with Tech’s death’s aftermath, Omega’s imprisonment by the Empire, and Crosshair’s eventual redemption.

With the implications of the larger canon, it is hard to see Omega having a happy ending. Fans should be ready for a ‘bittersweet’ conclusion to Omega’s story, as voice actress Michelle Ang recently hinted.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch, debuted with an astonishing new storyline back in 2021. Thanks to the dynamic camaraderie of Clone Force 99, the series is a favorite of many among the plethora of other animated Star Wars series. Based on a squad of genetically enhanced soldiers in a galaxy torn by war and uncertainty, the saga of the Bad Batch is finally coming to an end.

Envisioned as a three-season story, the series’ last season finale is just hours away. The episodes so far have been as incredible as always, and the stakes for Clone Force 99 are as high as ever. With season 3 finale about to be aired, there is a possibility that we might see yet another character meeting their end, similar to Tech’s devastating death in season two of The Bad Batch.

It’s an exciting time for Disney+ subscribers. That’s because Disney’s agreement to stream new episodes of Doctor Who is about to start bearing fruit.
On May 10, Disney+ subscribers in the U.S. will be able to access to the two newest episodes of Who season 14: “Space Babies” and “Devil’s Chord.” Additionally, the 2023 Christmas special “The Church on Ruby Road” will be available to stream then as well.
For more traditional Disney-heads, May 2024 sees one Star Wars season premiere (Tales of the Empire on May 4), one Star Wars season finale (The Bad Batch on May 1), and one Marvel finale (X-Men ’97 on May 15). May 22 also sees the premiere of Marvel Studios’ Assembled: The Making of X-Men ’97, which should be a fascinating look at the recent animated hit.

The sentence “Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey, Suki Waterhouse, and Jason Momoa starred in a post-apocalyptic action thriller with a bizarre premise and setting” features one too many things we love about cinema to even bother counting… Okay, it features exactly eight things we love about cinema — and if you’re anything like us, you’ll be excited to learn that such a movie does, in fact, exist!
What’s The Bad Batch About?
Another one of Ana Lily Amirpour’s melting of ideas, concepts, and tropes that may or may not go well together but indisputably create a memorable setting and story, 2016’s The Bad Batch follows an unfortunate young woman who gets exiled into the dystopian desert as punishment for her crimes by the new American government.

Given the state of the world around us today, it's not surprising that people are interested in post-apocalyptic settings. After all, you never know what skills or niche knowledge might save your life one day!
In all seriousness, though, post-apocalyptic scenarios can be a lot of fun. Packed with action, high stakes, and suspense, they keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Unfortunately, it's not easy to find a movie or TV series that does justice to the genre and doesn't rely on the same repetitive clichés.
If you're feeling the adrenaline rush and can't wait for Fallout to return with season 2, check out the movies below.
Waterworld (1995)

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" season 3, episode 14, "Flash Strike."
"Flash Strike," the penultimate episode of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch," features a thrilling infiltration of Mt. Tantiss. The Bad Batch finally located the Empire's top-secret facility at the very end of last week's episode, "Into the Breach," and is working to rescue Omega. For her part, Omega is trying to save all of the kids being experimented on by the Imperial scientists. Together, they're opposed by the full force of the Empire's might that Dr. Hemlock can bring to bear.
As Omega roams around Mt. Tantiss, however, she makes a startling discovery, giving her an idea for a plan to help her and the others escape. Elsewhere, the Bad Batch does their best to fight their way into the facility, while the former-Admiral Rampart does his best to sow division amongst the group, hoping...

This article contains spoilers for "The Bad Batch."When "The Bad Batch" premiered, it felt like mostly an excuse to continue watching clones and hear Dee Bradley Baker be the best in the voice acting business, but not much else. Before long, however, it quickly became clear that there was more to "The Bad Batch" than first met the eye. The animated show poignantly explores the idea of veterans coming home from war and finding that there is no place for them — at least not as they expected. It also showed the transition from Republic to Empire and how clones were replaced by conscripted stormtroopers.
Like every animated "Star Wars" project before it, "The Bad Batch" grew up and became darker each season. This third and final season is the darkest of the show, doing away with the side quests that at times got in the way of the main story in past seasons,...

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" season 3, episode 13, "Into the Breach."
From the very beginning, "Star Wars" has been a smorgasbord of film influences and references. George Lucas cited John Ford and Akira Kurosawa films as chief inspirations for "A New Hope." In fact, here at /Film (and StarWars.com before that), I've written hundreds of articles about the cinematic influences behind "Star Wars."
The latest episode of "The Bad Batch" is no exception. As the Bad Batch further pursues a path to the secret Imperial science facility on Mount Tantiss where Omega is being held, they lead a daring mission to an orbital platform at Coruscant to get the coordinates and affect their rescue. Meanwhile, Omega is held inside a child prison with other gifted kids who are being experimented on. Be that as it may, she knows her brothers are coming for her, and...

Way back in 2002, the excitement for Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones diminished somewhat. Late Night with Conan O’Brien sent Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to mock the fans lined up for the premiere, resulting in a segment in which comedian/puppeteer Robert Smigel launched nerd jokes at the assembly.
Most of the jokes were pretty obvious, including the last bit, in which a man cosplaying as Mr. Spock gained the knack for cursing and walked up and down the line with his middle finger extended. But while the perceived Star Wars vs. Star Trek rivalry has become an old toxic cliché at this point, the fact is that the two franchises don’t actually overlap very much in terms of their core missions. Trek favors optimistic philosophical inquiry and Wars emphasizes fantasy and adventure.

Spoilers for "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" Season 3 Episode 12 "Juggernaut" follow.
The third and final season of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" moves on, this time bringing us back to the original status quo of the season. In the epic previous episode, Omega sacrificed herself to prevent the utter destruction of their paradise refuge of Pabu, and the Empire takes her right back to Mount Tantiss. Desperate to find Omega and stop the Empire's experiments once and for all, the Bad Batch looks for any lead they can in order to find the location of the secret facility.
That brings them back to Admiral Rampart, who was arrested in earlier seasons as a scapegoat for the genocidal destruction of Kamino. He was sent to an Imperial labor camp, which offers a pretty neat, direct tie to "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story."

Lucasfilm has revealed the first teaser trailer for "Star Wars: Tales of the Empire." Though not exactly a season 2, per se, this serves as a follow-up to 2022's acclaimed "Tales of the Jedi." That show was a series of animated shorts that focused on two interwoven tales of Jedi at crucial times in their development, namely Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku before he fell to the dark side. Similarly, this new series will be focusing on two different figures within the Empire: Morgan Elsbeth and former Jedi Barriss Offee. Check it out for yourself above.
This trailer offers a lot for hardcore "Star Wars" fans to dig into. We're going to be learning a lot more about Morgan Elsbeth, who fans of "Ahsoka" will be familiar with. We're also going to get more of Grand Admiral Thrawn in his younger years. Meanwhile, "Clone Wars" and prequel fans are going to dive deeper with Barriss Offee,...

After last week's episode of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" saw Asajj Ventress return from the grave, the show took a pivot this week. Instead of visiting Clone Force 99 at all, "Identity Crisis" takes us back to Mount Tantiss and focuses on Emerie Karr.
Karr, who's voiced by "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" alum Keisha Castle-Hughes, is another female clone of Jango Fett, albeit much older than Omega. Introduced in previous seasons of "The Bad Batch," she's thus far been part of the crew on Mount Tantiss working alongside Dr. Hemlock on Operation Necromancer. She was also the one who gave Omega back her makeshift Lula doll at the beginning of season 3, sowing seeds that are paid off in this episode. The third and final season of "The Bad Batch" focuses on the intriguing mystery of why the Empire is so obsessed with something they call "M-Count" and how the clone Omega figures into their plan. Particularly strange is seeing this concept so integral to the show when, once upon a time, it was fans' the most maligned canon addition. Out of the many alien concepts in "Star Wars," and all the things George Lucas came up with — from the Jedi to the Wookies and lightsabers — midi-chlorians remains the most contentious. They are intelligent, microscopic life forms residing within the cells of every living organism in the universe.
It is the midi-chlorians that channel the Force, and allow their host access to it. Because midi-chlorians spring from, and are connected to the Wellspring of Life from which all life and the Force itself comes from, midi-chlorians are believed to be capable...

This Star Wars article contains spoilers.
The return of Asajj Ventress in Star Wars: The Bad Batch is an intriguing new mystery for fans, especially those who read of her death in the 2015 novel Dark Disciple by Christie Golden, which is set during the Clone Wars, right before the events of Revenge of the Sith. In that book, she sacrificed herself to save her lover, Jedi Master Quinlan Vos, from Count Dooku’s Force lightning, but just an in-universe year after her death, she’s somehow back and meeting up with Clone Force 99 on The Bad Batch.
So, what’s behind her resurrection? It’s a mystery with no answer from Star Wars. But plenty of theories…
How Is Asajj Ventress Back?
Unsurprisingly, the prevailing theory regarding her return from the grave goes back to a specific moment in Dark Disciple. In the book, she and Vos team up to try and kill Dooku.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" season 3, episode 9, "The Harbinger."
Asajj Ventress is dead.
At least, that's what we all assumed right up until the trailer dropped for the final season of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch."
Like many characters on the animated "Clone Wars" TV series, Asajj Ventress -- the wicked Sith assassin turned morally ambiguous bounty hunter -- was a victim of the show's initial cancellation prior to its revival on Disney+. Her plotline was never quite finished, though there were episodes planned to wrap her story up. Those episodes were in pre-production and Lucasfilm even showed some of their unfinished story reels at conventions, but any hope of actually getting to see those episodes quickly fizzled.
Eventually, the scripts for those episodes were handed over to Lucasfilm's book division, and author Christie Golden was given the task of bringing them to life in novel form.

Clone Trooper Echo may not have been created as a member of Clone Force 99, but that didn’t stop them from accepting him as one of their own after his rescue from the Separatists during the Clone Wars. But with the rise of the Empire and their growing mistreatment of clones, enhanced and otherwise, Echo decided to leave Clone Force 99 in season 2 of The Bad Batch to join Rex’s squad of resistance fighters. Of course, that didn’t stop fans from hoping he would eventually return to this motley found family, especially after the loss of Tech. Unfortunately, the official Star Wars website has finally confirmed that Echo’s leave of absence from the Bad Batch is permanent.
His character description now reads, “Echo, formerly of the 501st and the Bad Batch, has joined his old friend Captain Rex on...

This week's episode of "The Bad Batch" sees Hunter and Wrecker doing a job for no pay for Fennec Shand -- the bounty hunter played by Ming-Na Wen who was first introduced in season 1 of "The Mandalorian." She's holding information they need to understand why the Empire is after Omega hostage in order to compel them to help her with collecting a dangerous bounty. They're reluctant to do it, but they see little other choice. They need to know about M-Counts and why the Empire is so intent on finding Omega.
Fennec Shand is a bit dishonest about it, too. She implies she has the information they need, but when they finish the job, she reveals that she only knows the person who might have the information they need and she'll get them in contact. The...

Praise the Mortis Gods! "The Acolyte" is giving us a reason to get excited about live-action "Star Wars" television again while we patiently await the second season of "Andor." After "The Mandalorian" season 3 saw its namesake frustratingly sidelined in favor of setting up Dave Filoni's larger New Republic arc and "Ahsoka" season 1 left me and others feeling like the convergence of live-action and animated "Star Wars" is a real mixed blessing, "Russian Doll" co-creator Leslye Headland is here to change things up. "The Acolyte" is set in the High Republic era, a period that's been explored in the ongoing High Republic publishing initiative but has never before been realized in live-action. That alone should be enough to pique the interest of anyone who's ready for a "Star Wars" series that's less beholden to setting up future shows and can exist more independently.
That's not to say "The Acolyte" will...

If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

It’s been a few months now since we last got live-action Star Wars – and while The Bad Batch’s third season continues to hurtle towards its grand finale, in a post-Ahsoka world all eyes are on the long-awaited and much-mysterious new show The Acolyte, coming to Disney+ later this year. And now, not only do we know exactly when it’s due to arrive, but we have a tantalising teaser poster too – promising a dark and dangerous delve into a period of the Star Wars galaxy that remains largely unexplored. All signs point to this one being bloody brilliant. Speaking of which, that poster:
Blimey. No messing around there. With what little we know of The Acolyte pointing towards a resurgence in the dark side amid a time of bounteous Jedi, this poster says it all – a bloodied lightsaber, a shock of red akin to an igniting Sith blade,...

This week’s dual episode arc on Star Wars: The Bad Batch not only gave us a closer look at the mysterious clone assassins created by Dr. Hemlock, but also set up the future partnership between Captain Rex and Commander Wolffe we always knew was coming. Though they may initially be on opposite sides in these episodes, fans already know the two are destined to work together to fight the Empire on Star Wars Rebels, which is set a few years after The Bad Batch. But we’ve never actually seen the moment Rex and Wolffe decided to band together before their time on Rebels.
Before the Bad Batch episode “Extraction,” the last time that Wolffe appeared chronologically was in The Clone Wars serving alongside Jedi Master Plo Koon, and obviously a lot has happened since then. We learn in “Extraction...

Star Wars has been taking it slow for the past few years, staving off a big theatrical release in favor of telling stories on the small screen, via shows like Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and The Bad Batch. a slew of Star Wars video games has been able to hype up fans too, introducing new characters like Cal Kestis, who fans hope will make his live-action debut soon.

2023 was a relatively light year for Marvel on Disney+, with only two live-action series (Secret Invasion and Loki Season 2) and two animated shows (I Am Groot Season 2 and What If...? Season 2) releasing last year. Then, Echo kicked off the McU's 2024 content with its early January release.
Meanwhile, Star Wars had quite a busy year. 2023 saw the first seasons of Ahsoka and Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, the second seasons of The Bad Batch and Star Wars: Visions, and the third season of The Mandalorian.

The latest episode of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" gives us our first adventure with the core surviving members of Clone Force 99 and Crosshair. When they need to decode secret Imperial plans in the hopes of getting more information about the Empire's operation on Mount Tantiss, Crosshair volunteers information about a location he knows of where they might be able to decode it. Though Hunter is loathe to trust their comrade-turned-enemy-turned-comrade, they all decide to head to the abandoned Imperial Depot on the ice planet of Barton IV, which first appeared in "The Bad Batch" season 2, episode 12, "The Outpost" (itself one of the season's best episodes).

Jason Momoa belongs to a small group of absolutely massive actors who are also genuinely funny as hell, like John Cena and Alan Ritchson. In some of his best roles, Momoa can be charismatic and funny, but also intimidating and a strong physical presence on screen. It's why he works great in "The Bad Batch" and as Aquaman, why he stole every scene he's in as Duncan Idaho in "Dune," and why Dante Reyes is one of the best "Fast & Furious" villains ever.
And yet, this is Hollywood, so of course Momoa was mostly seen as just a big scary dude after his breakthrough role in "Game of Thrones." Sure, audiences love bad guys, but they don't necessarily root for them. So it came as a big surprise when, in 2014, Momoa was cast as Arthur Curry aka Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars saw Asajj Ventress as the animated series’ antagonist, voiced by Nika Futterman. The original lineup of the Bad Batch consisted of four core members of "Experimental unit Clone Force 99": Hunter, the leader; Wrecker, the muscle; Tech, the brains; and Crosshair, the sharpshooter. They did several missions together throughout the Clone Wars and were a tight-knit team based on the planet Kamino. That all changed, though, when the newly-declared Emperor issued Order 66. Most folks familiar with "Star Wars" are also familiar with the order Palpatine gave the Clone Army to kill the Jedi. Despite our best predictions with our 2024 TV preview, perhaps a little on the early side, when Disney finally revealed its 2024 Disney+ slate, in spite of four Lucasfilm projects on the docket for this year, Tony Gilroy’s “Andor” starring Diego Luna wasn’t one of them. Instead, Disney promised Leslye Headland’s “The Acolyte,” seemingly scheduled for June of this year, Jon Watts’ “Skeleton Crew,” plus “The Bad Batch,” which just finished up season three, and “Tales Of The Jedi” season two.

Spoilers for "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" season 3 premiere, episodes 1-3 "Confined," "Paths Unknown," and "Shadows of Tantiss," follow.
With the three-episode third season premiere of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch," the creative team behind the show is doubling down on its connections to the rest of the "Star Wars" saga and connecting directly into the ninth installment of the Skywalker story.
In these episodes, we finally learn why the Empire so desperately needs the Omega — a female clone of Jango Fett — and it's not just to keep her Kaminoan handlers working effectively. Clone Force 99 is back in action.
The last time we saw the genetically altered clone troopers in Disney+’s The Bad Batch, they were dealing with the presumed death of Tech, who’d died during a mission, and the loss of clone Omega, who’d been captured by the Empire. Omega, however, had also reunited with Kaminoan scientist Nala Se as well as Crosshair, both of whom seemed to be waking up to the Empire’s true (evil) nature.
