When Matt presses an exhausted and sleep-deprived Maggie, she tells him about last night. Matt insists that he loves Maggie and isn't having an affair with Karen. Maggie refuses to respond to Matt's arguments and goes back to bed. Matt wants to forget the incident in Karen's apartment, but she argues the difference between forgetting and sublimation. Karen declares that she will survive, as does Maggie when she decides to go in to work at the clinic. Maggie and Karen play an ambiguous word game about survival and fate. Karen gains the upper hand after she reveals that Matt, of his own free will, went to her apartment at lunch.
