Medicore B-Flick that can be avoided.
kendaem23 July 2018
This is probably the first movie with a misguiding IMDB rating that I have watched in its entirety, which is something I truly regret doing. The Rating plus some of the witty user reviews in here that talks of clever twists in the end, is what actually got me to waste 2 hours of my life. The story itself has nothing new to it and the so called twists in the end are pretty much predictable halfway through the movie. Add to it the rusty 90-esque special effects and you have a B Sci-Fi movie without any sort of oddness or uniqueness to it. It can't even be put into "So bad it's good" category. My honest suggestion here is watch it only if you are able to tolerate a Low budget generic Sci Fi movie and are willing to spare 2 hours to go through it.

IMDB should really audit reviews
ricardotunisi5 August 2018
First of all, what in the hell happened to Billy Zane? He used to be a great actor and be on great movies. But let's talk about this two hour life sucking flick and its 7,2/10 rating (by the time I watched it). Poor story, poor dialog, poor cinematography and well, pretty much poor everything. Almost everything that happens in this movie has no objective and/or makes no sense, but eversince it had a high review I forced my self to watch until the very end and maybe be amazed about some turning point that maybe had my mind blown away. Well, the only thing that blew my mind was how stupid my decision was. IMDB please audit those ratings.

Awful with Fake Rating and Reviews
claudio_carvalho5 August 2018
IMDb used to be a serious site and an international reference for movie fans. Unfortunately since the last modification, IMDb has become a manipulative site with fake ratings (probably with the use of robots) and reviews (many of them with one or two lines only).

The boring "Blue World Order" is one of the worst movies of the adventure genre. The screenplay is a complete mess and the pace is absolutely inadequate for the genre. The poor direction associated to terrible performances make this flick an unbearable entertainment. However the IMDb User Rating (7.1) lures many viewers (including me). My vote is three.

Literally one of the worst movies ever made
kietkyho24 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Everything is wrong with this movie, from the absolutely abysmal acting (bar one character), awful cinematography where literally EVERY SINGLE SHOT would be framed in a way where the top of the actors head would be cut off... you couldn't like... move the camera up a bit? Or maybe just shoot a wider take? Speaking of wider take, there's absolutely no consistency in chase scenes, or scenes where the actors are running through the woods, it's literally just random shots / cuts of our actors running through the woods randomly, you don't know where they're going, why they go in certain directions, how far away the bad guys are from them... there's one scene where this fat guy takes our main characters (Jake) daughter and somehow gets away from our main character... even though he had... maybe a 5 second head start on him... I'm not even kidding.... ARGH!!!

The directing of the action was absolutely atrocious, from the moment they show the "wrestling" scene filmed at The Stockade gym, sets the bar for just how bad the action in this film is going to be. There's even a scene where Jake is punching soldiers in the head... but the soldiers are wearing helmets... WHAT!?!? Also why is everyone doing giant capoeira esque spinning kicks?!?!? Yeah, let me just telegraph my attacks AS HARD AS I CAN....

The film also had an absolutely disgusting and inconsistent colour palette throughout. It tried to go for this murky post apocalyptic feel, but then some other parts, it's like they forgot and everything looks normal. There was also a hilarious scene that was VERY CLEARLY shot in the day, but they colour correct it to make it look like night... even though there's perfectly casted shadows over the people's faces and ground... Couldn't have just made the scene take place during the day?

There's a scene in the film where two people are talking and Jake reveals himself to the enemy, and one of the actors looks and sees our main character, BUT continues talking to the other guy normally... and only after a few seconds, does he ACTUALLY react and say "WHO ARE YOU, STAY BACK!!!"... like... as opposed to reacting mid sentence and being surprised... nah just finish your sentence THEN react to this threat in front of you. Continuing on from this same scene, Jake is VERY CLEARLY holding a person in his arms, even though they're wrapped in blankets, to which our two actors ask "WHAT'S IN THE PACKAGE?"... HNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH

The over abundance of pointless exposition was also an incredibly and stupid way to try and educate the audience into what your film is about... too bad NOTHING ELSE MAKES SENSE IN THIS FILM.... Who was the script supervisor? Did anyone even proof read this screenplay? Or did this director simply wanted to mash a bunch of genres together and film poorly choreographed action scenes first then write a script around them..? Cause that's honestly how it feels...

Oh look, filming inside a cave!! How are we gonna light it in a way that we can still create the shot but make the light source within the films universe believable? Yeah let's just use a bunch of high tech studio lighting in order for us to film this scene, but our characters are using candles to light the cave up, yeah this shot isn't totally over exposed or anything.

NO ONE'S CHARACTER IN THIS MOVIE MAKES ANY SENSE... AT ALL... who are the resistance? Why are they trying to fight against the Telstra tower people? Why is the guys wife working with the Telstra tower people but secretly has an ulterior motive? What was the deal with the first settlement and why they wanted Jakes daughter? What was the deal with the semi cool looking dude in the suit who was never utilized for anything? Why is the "bad guy" at the end suddenly siding with Jake? WHAT???!?!?!?

WHY DOESN'T ANYONE USE THEIR GUNS!!!!!!! There is so much poorly choreographed hand to hand combat and fight scenes, and of course the movie goes for the whole "one hit KO" approach, regardless of where people are hit... but like.... If anyone in this movie USED THEIR GUN... Jake wouldn't have made it as far as he did...

Why is the score in this movie so inconsistent with the tone that the film is trying to go for... actually WHAT KIND OF TONE IS THIS MOVIE GOING FOR?!?!?! Is it trying to be grim? Is it trying to be hopeful? Is it trying to simulate Hobbiton from The Hobbit (I'm not kidding).

There were 2 (but apparently 3) REALLY REALLY bad editing mistakes throughout this film... they are GLARINGLY OBVIOUS when you spot them... Also, don't use the fast forward function during car chase scenes, it's just a lazy way to try and make it like the cars are going a lot faster than they actually are... and it's glaringly obvious...

There's also a scene where the entire world is frozen in stasis, which I'll admit is a pretty cool concept, too bad you couldn't get your extras to stand still... kinda breaks the believability of your universe when you can tell your extras are having a hard time standing still and you can see em shaking... couldn't have gotten a second take?

USE A TRIPOD!

....ARE THOSE GUNS NERF GUNS!?!?!?!? Wow... they used nerf guns.....

The 2 hour run time was COMPLETELY unnecessary

This movie was trying to be a blend of sci fi with crazy action and contain a mad max style car chase scene... and it fails at all of them.

If you want a GOOD movie about infertility, go watch Children of Men.

If you want WELL DIRECTED fight choreography, go watch ANY Jackie Chan film or Gareth Evan's The Raid 1 and 2.

If you want a Mad Max style car chase scene, go watch Mad Max Fury Road.

I really really want to try and give this movie the benefit of the doubt and at least say that it was an admirable attempt for a first time film... but it wasn't.

Just because you filmed this in Canberra, doesn't mean I am going to let this movie and its faults slip by... But hey, Che Baker and Dallas Bland actually made a film, and that's more than I can say about a lot of people who have half baked ideas for what they want to do and never actually accomplish it. So even though this film is a flaming dumpster fire, at least it exists, and at least it looked like they had a lot of fun making it, so good on em, but still:

1/10.

IMDB should audit this movie´s ratings
vlacarvalho30 July 2018
It is suspicious an evaluacion so high to a movie that we are able to grade it as a 4 film right from the trailer. Come on!!!. I am a fan of indie, trash, B movies. But I also know it´s not Apocalipse Now. I admire your fan base that was capable to achieve that amount of votes. Congratulations! Here in Brazil we did the same with an biography of a "pastor" that lured his flock to vote. Thousands elevated the ratings of that movie.

Crap
mroberto752 August 2018
Looks like it is a fact that IMDB has been hacked and the ratings are not adequate anymore. This is not the first overrated "movie" on this site. Me and my friends could have shot better film than this lame one. Don't waste your time to watch it.

Watch and then rewatch
smason-5385610 June 2018
As a kid of the 80s I applaud this film. While it's low budget, the characters and story hold interest and there are some electric moments - especially with Mad Cap who is a loveable quirky character. The post apocalyptic story makes a strong statement about dominant government regimens, and though the science is at times complex, it's got a lot more substance than many of the high budget sci fi films in the cinema. I really enjoyed the experience, the humour and the pace. Worth a watch, then a rewatch!

Forget the haters - this film has some serious cool
dvaustralia-7508310 June 2018
This film was billed as madmax meets starwars - and while clearly not the same budget as either, it makes up for that by being a throw back to some good old fashion adventure. The story is more complex that your average sci-fi and there are twists and turns along the way. I actually watched it twice and got a lot more of it the second time round. I saw some of the bad reviews on here and I can only think that these people have some personal issues with the film-makers in their home town and want to troll them. it might not be for everybody, but I loved it!

randbark-22 August 2018
The oofs that say this is worth watching, obviously have never seen a well though out and acted si-fi film. Watched over an hour and just could not finish it. Acting was so bad. And for those of you that say there are twists, where are they.

Man, what a mess this movie is! And who's the worst actress in the world? Yes, you're right: Bolude Watson (Marion). I would give a great ZERO if this was possible. OK, 1/10.

I feel bad for laughing
allanwatts-021229 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I seriously felt bad for laughing until I realised it was a comedy, hang on a minute....

The first or second scene with the unneccessary parkour in the bushland creating more noise & attention than a street parade. The pretty mouse/blonde woman guard standing outside in bushland with hairdresser fresh perfect hair with more volume & density in her groomed hair than the script itself & all actors combined.

Camera-man: Director should I do extreme closeups of action sequences or do pointless back & forth closeups of actors or scenery or should I just shake the camera until the viewers throw up from motion sickness or should I do all these things because there is sweet bugger all going on in this movie? Director: Yes!

Come on, you have to have a laugh, I am just glad I skipped over one hour of the middle bit only to laugh at the ending. Thanks for the laughs guys ; )

Tongue in Cheek Sci-Fi Action
persianimmortal22 August 2018
This movie doesn't take itself too seriously, and neither should you. Yes, the plot is filled with cliches galore. Yes, the guards in this movie have Stormtrooper syndrome. Yes, that's a Back to the Futuresque DeLorean DMC-12 you see in the trailer and on various posters for the film. It's all intentional.

The key word here is Fun. If you're after a gritty, realistic post-apocalyptic sci-fi film, this isn't the movie you're looking for. Blue World Order is clearly a homage to the types of light-hearted action/adventure/sci-fi movies you could rent on VHS back in the '80s, and binge watch with friends on a Sunday afternoon.

It's an offbeat, at times quite humorous, sci-fi action adventure flick, with a story that improves as it goes along - and yes, there is a bit of a twist at the end which affects how you perceive the bad guy. If you find yourself groaning a bit at the start, that's fine... persist and the movie does improve.

For what it is, and given its low budget, I think Blue World Order does the job reasonably well. And for my money, Stephen Hunter makes the film much more enjoyable. His confused and confusingly eccentric character provides some genuine laughs to offset the generic action and TV episode special effects.

As for the ratings here on IMDB, well I'd say we have a case of action and reaction. Clearly, some overly zealous individuals have artificially voted this movie a 9 or 10 when it really isn't anything of that caliber. Then you have people who feel cheated voting a 1 or 2, when again BWO isn't that bad. Pick a time when you're in a good mood and want some light-hearted fun, then watch the movie. Full disclosure: I'm a long-time Canberra resident, but I had no involvement with the movie or the filmmakers.

Totally Captivating
burly5018 July 2018
This film would have rated a 10 if their budget was better for the SFX. Great story and decent acting make for an extremely entertaining viewing experience.

From an eclectic movie goer, this film is well worth a watch!

Adding my 2 cents (or one star) to counteract the fake reviews
dandeb-354168 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Sorry but if you review this film anywhere near or above a 7, you either have some skin in the game or you have very poor taste in movies. I could not get past the "we really had to destroy mankind to save mankind" storyline. I only watched this because I like (or used to...) Billy Zane.

Unexpected twists
davidblackrok20 July 2018
Okay, I loved this. Looooved it! I have a soft spot for indie films, and this is clearly an indie - but it was entertaining first time, and then I watched it again yesterday and picked up so much more in the story I missed. I wish they had the budget to do what they really wanted to, but still it was a great story that makes me want to know more about the world. Watch it more than once. I think I'm with the zane!

A real sense of adventure
romanguardtwo21 July 2018
I watched this because I'm a fan of Robbo from Home and Away. It was like Robbo in the future. I get that this is a low budget Australian movie, but I enjoyed it more than most Hollywood blockbusters that seem to come off a production line. The characters are really great, especially the scientist. I liked how the good guys and the bad guys both thought they were doing the best thing, and we argued afterwards about who's side we'd be on!

A low budget gem
coboltblue7510 November 2018
I think a lot of the reviewers were expecting way too much from this movie, it is low budget sci-fi at it's best, it ticks all the box. A human story Beautiful cinematography A wonderfully campy and convoluted plot

Also shot around the city of my birth
