- As Goodman buys a boat Dan Hagen, wealthy philanthropist and oceanographic leader of a diving party, is shot on board his yacht whilst the four members of his group are all underwater and in each other's sight. Goodman is puzzled by the appearance of a toy soldier next to the corpse and learns, not only that Dan's ex-spouse and current trophy wife are in the party though apparently friends, but that Dan's colleague Sam Blake had argued with him over a professional matter and student Jonathan Taylor was a drug smuggler Dan exposed. Taylor is arrested but ultimately the toy soldier gives Goodman the clue to the way the murder was carried out.—don @ minifie-1
- Multimillionaire and ecology-philanthropist Dan Hagen was fatally shot aboard his yacht while all other members of the oceanographic expedition he sponsored were diving to study the deterioration of Caribbean carol reefs. Commissioner Selwyn Patterson doesn't even dignify to comment DI Humphrey Goodman's naive hope to join the fancy yacht club after buying a floating rust bucket no islander would accept for free, but they all expect him to solve the high profile victim's murder swiftly. Humphrey is puzzled by a Prussian model soldier found beside Dan while the team screens all expedition members. Scientific leader Dr Sam Blake risked loosing his academic career as his doctorate was based on data now being disproved, his student Jonathan Taylor feared exposure as drug smuggler but the blunt next move on land isn't logical. Dr Sam Blake's academic colleague is Dan's ex and Hagen's present wife Laura Hagen hides surprising things.—KGF Vissers
