When serial killer on death-row Alex Rockwell is only two days from his lethal injection, the Jeffersoanian team routinely checks the evidence they provided for his conviction. An old injury shows he could not commit the first murder and a more recent one using the exact elaborate MO strongly suggests someone else kills on, but it's not part of his conviction, so the judge demands hard evidence against the actual killer within the scheduled 48 hours, and Rockwell refuses to prolong his meaningless life. Booth's belief in the death sentence crumbles as it looks time may fail, but solving the first murder yields a suspect and ultimately proof.
