- Finch, Reese, Fusco and Shaw embark on one last mission to prevent Samaritan from destroying The Machine and cementing its hold over mankind.
- Shaw visits Root's grave to say her final goodbyes. Mr. Reese and Lionel are given the rough edge tongue by the police chief, who figures out that John is in fact the man in a suit. The police arrest them and are ready to make them disappear forever. However, they are interrupted by Mr. Finch's arrival. The team splits in two, Lionel and Shaw who remain with the the Machine in order to protect it, while Mr. Reese and Mr. Finch attempt to destroy Samaritan's back-up servers. Mr. Finch says his final goodbye to his friend, Mr. Reese. Wounded by a gunshot, he starts hallucinating Root, while Mr. Reese sacrifices himself. Shaw finally avenges Root's death.—Andy Ward
- Finch has unleashed the virus in order to infect and thus destroy Samaritan, knowing full well the consequences, including the infection of the world's networks, leading to technological Armageddon. He also knows that the Machine will be included and thus will not survive herself. In doing so, Finch and the team also know that the Machine will no longer be able to protect them as their covers will be discovered, which, for Reese, means that he probably will eventually be discovered as the notorious Man in the Suit that the authorities have long been after. Regardless, Finch still sees these outcomes as a better option than Samaritan taking over the world, despite Samaritan trying to convince Finch and the team of its altruistic motives. While the Machine is still alive, she is able to relay to Finch that there is a secured backup copy of Samaritan, ready to be launched if anything were to happen to the currently working copy. As such, Finch takes Reese along to find and destroy that backup copy, while Shaw and Fusco remain at the subway to protect the Machine from Samaritan's operatives for as long as she is alive and as long as it takes for Finch and Reese to accomplish their mission. Events lead to Shaw adding one last mission to her list of tasks. And Finch has his own plans of how he envisions this standoff between the Machine and Samaritan playing out and his role in the events, but the Machine may have her own ideas in what she's learned as an AI.—Huggo
- Shaw visits Root's grave but is attacked by Samaritan's operatives and flees. The Samaritan learned the identities of the team using Root's cochlear implant, and they are now in danger. At the police station, Reese and Fusco are arrested by police officers paid by the Samaritan and are taken to the docks to be killed. However, The Machine sends snipers and they are saved. Finch meets them and they go to the subway station. Shaw tells them that The Machine made a backup copy of itself, but the Samaritan did the same. The copy is stored at the Federal Reserve Bank, and they decide to split: Shaw and Fusco stay at the station to protect The Machine, and Reese and Finch go to the bank. Finch and Reese succeed in their mission, but The Machine tells Finch that the Samaritan transferred a compressed code to reach an antenna and then a Russian satellite. They need to reach the antenna in a short time to avoid that the Samaritan is saved in a suicidal mission. Meanwhile Fusco and Shaw are reached by the Samaritan's agents in the subway station. They fight back, but Jeff Blackwell breaks into the train that is in movement. Soon Shaw learns that he killed Root.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
