When Cholmondeley is stirring the cauldron he quotes Falstaff in Shakespeare's Henry IV part 1, act3 scene3.
The treaty struck by James' father and and the Indian tribe reads partially as follows:
" ... The new --- chah --- nulth people, here represented by chief No-i-nor .... agree the sale of occupying lands lying round the head of Nootka Sound and ... the adjacent inlets, who, for the purpose of this treaty, are to be recorded as one nation, on behalf of said tribes and bandes, and duly authorized by chief No-i-Nor in representation of them."
" ... In exchange for this land and agreed construction of a wooden built structure to serve as storage house --- a cache of firearms, including one hundred pistols and sixty-five rifles as well as the trade goods listed in the accompanying document is to be exchanged. The said tribes and bandes of Indians hereby relinquish, and convey to the Delaney Shipping Company all their rights, title, and interest in and to the agreed ... all attess and trade passing to & from.
"It is understood and agreed that the Indian nation, party to this treaty, violate any of the provision thereof, the Delaney Shipping Company may withhold the whole are a portion of the goods mentioned in the proceeding lines from the chah -nulth people, until, in the opinion of Mr. Horace Delaney, proper satisfaction shall have been made."
"There is, however reserved for the present use and occupation of the said tribes and bands, to be relinquished after a set time of three years. A separate agreement will be drawn where tracks shall be set apart, and, as far as necessary, surveyed and marked out for their exclusive use; nor shall any white man be permitted to reside upon the same without the permission of the tribe and the superintendent or agent."
"Upon signing this treaty shall be enforceable and ratified by the laws set out by the King of England, in testimony whereof, the said Horace Shipton Delancey, of Delancey Shipping Company, and the undersigned Chief No-i-Nor, have here unto set their hands and seals at the place and on the day and year herein-before written. Signed the Delancey Shipping Company Horace S. Delancy (signature). Signed Chief No-i-Nor (X).
