Not a minute is wasted in an hour of extreme tension and glorious payoffs.
TouchTheGarlicProduction13 August 2017
While I have loved the slow, atmospheric nature of the new Twin Peaks, I know a lot of people who have become increasingly fed up with the show's excruciating pace and seemingly pointless scenes. I think those people will love this part. In terms of pure plot progression, this is probably one of the most important parts so far. I honestly can't think of a single wasted minute in this part. Every scene has a purpose, and every moment rackets up the tension. That's the other thing that makes the episode so great; the tension. I felt like the characters were in genuine danger or distress at every moment. I hardly eased off the edge of my seat during the whole hour.

The opening sequence drops yet another of the satisfying exposition bombs the FBI plot has become known for. I always perk up when Gordon shows up on screen, because I know that a few of the long-coveted answers may be near. They (and we) are so close to the answers that I can almost taste it. This is when a mystery becomes most tantalizing; when it is just out of reach. This sequence also provides the most laugh-out-loud weird-out moments of the episode.

Hot off the heels of the opening scene, the episode does not slow down but instead gives us a satisfying comeuppance and the long-awaited Jack Rabbit's Palace sequence. I've been anticipating this moment since Part 9, and it did not disappoint. Not only is the denouement strange, revealing, and surprising, but the build-up to it is absolutely perfect. Since season 1 we have heard about the "darkness in these woods", and as our intrepid heroes travelled east from the palace, I felt like we were really seeing that darkness for the first time. The tension before and during the arrival at the site is some of the greatest I've ever seen.

The second half of the episode contains a scattered assortment of scenes with different residents of Twin Peaks. At the start of each one, I breathed a sigh of relief as I thought the episode was about to slow down a little. It never did. Despite the fact that they follow characters on the fringes of the story who had thus far seemed insignificant, each of these scenes is intensely gripping and surprisingly revealing in their own way. The scene with Sarah Palmer is obviously a standout, but I enjoyed the scene with James and his friend and the scene with random people in the Roadhouse way more than I expected to when they started due to their unexpected significance to the plot.

Overall, I would say that this is without a doubt the strongest hour of the Return so far. It doesn't have many scenes, but every one of them is gripping and relevant. I absolutely loved it.

"...this is a f*cking nuthouse!"
framptonhollis13 August 2017
In what appears to be the oddest episode since the masterful eight entry, this mad surrealist ride is Lynch at his most surprising, humorous, and disturbing. The first twenty minutes of this episode are pure comedic gold, mainly due to Lynch's own eccentric performance as Gordon Cole. Brief flickers of the heavily bizarre pop up here and there during these opening scenes, and they are played mainly for laughs, and what laughs they are! Despite the gruesome material we are faced with later on in the episode, it deserves the label as being one of the funniest entries in the series so far if not just for these early, wildly comic moments. Of course, there are hilarious lines and scenes throughout the rest of the episode as well, including on sequence in a jail cell that is so damn disturbing I winced, but was also so damn funny I had no choice but to awkwardly chuckle, squirming gently in my seat, not even sure if my mind was in control anymore.

For the most part, this episode centers around the criminal investigation/police sector of the "Peaks" universe and features key scenes with many of the show's most likable and mature characters. Plus, Andy, the iconic comic relief character, is an unexpectedly major figure in this episode, and shows off his more serious side, one far removed from what we are used to. There's also some fascinating information given out by Diane in her scene, which implies some major future development with the Dougie Jones subplot (which, unfortunately or fortunately depending on your opinion of the character, is not explored any further in this entry), as well as Cole's enigmatic recollection of his dream in which he encounters Monica Bellucci of all people (who actually plays herself, and it is also said that Cole has had dreams featuring the actress before) and reminisces on an odd encounter he, Cooper, and Albert had with the long lost Philip Jeffries many years ago, which is famously depicted in Fire Walk With Me. And, speaking of FWWM, its starting to show its incredible significance to this new series quite a bit with many key images and references directly dealing with events from that film, so anyone whose watching this new series and has yet to see, or does not remember very well, FWWM is urged by myself to go out and (re)watch it right away, because it really is essential viewing in order to understand some major pieces of the "Twin Peaks" puzzle.

All in all, this is definitely one of the best episodes of the series so far, as we'll as one of the strangest, quirkiest, and objectively most important ones. It melds plot progression and insane experimental shenanigans together flawlessly, and this review barely even scratches the surface of this mini masterwork. So, if you've been sort of losing hope in the series (I haven't at all, but I do realize that some did not find the last couple of episodes to be particularly appealing), this insane fifty six minutes of comical, mysterious, and shocking genius will likely restore said hope.

Into the Woods
Hitchcoc14 August 2017
Gordon has become my favorite character. Obviously, David Lynch is enjoying himself. We are used to his loudness (because he is practically deaf and thinks no one else can hear), but it is exaggerated by a phone call where the police have to hold the phone away from their ears. There are some incredibly violent scenes, but the most dramatic set of events involves the men of the sheriff's department following instructions and going into the woods to find the vortex. It culminates with the discovery of an Asian woman who has no eyes and is nude. While they wander around, Andy disappears. He is brought into a room and meets the "Fireman." It appears to be the giant from the original series. Or someone like him. Andy is given some kind of lamp and sees events that are startling. He returns and says the woman they found must be put in a jail cell for her own protection. We then have an insane few moments in the jail. The scene in the bar where Laura's mother is just trying to have a drink is incredibly frightening. Quite the family! We also have a detailed story where the young British cop tells of his own abduction, his meeting with the Fireman, and a glove that gives him incredible hand strength. He was also told to go to Twin Peaks in Washington. We get no information on Dougie or the bad Dale Cooper. Laura Dern's character has some recollection which disturbs her and seems to give Gordon a clue. It's a great episode, full of tantalizing humor and incredible suspense.

Twin Peaks, third season, fourteenth episode: We are like the dreamer
kluseba22 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Fourteenth episode: We are like the dreamer / The Return, Part XIV

Content: Frank informs Gordon that pages found from Laura's diary suggest the existence of two Coopers. Albert tells Tammy about the first Blue Rose case. Diane identifies Janey-E as her estranged half- sister. Gordon orders the Las Vegas office to search for the Joneses. Gordon recalls dreaming of Monica Bellucci and the last appearance of Phillip Jeffries. Chad is arrested. Frank, Hawk, Bobby and Andy follow Major Briggs's instructions and find Naido naked in the woods. Andy gets visions of past, present and future from the Fireman. James learns from fellow Great Northern security guard Freddie Sykes that he bought a strength-enhancing rubber glove and moved to Twin Peaks from London after a vision of the Fireman. James notices a strange hum in the boiler room. Sarah rebuffs a trucker's advances at a bar. When he insults her, she opens her face, revealing darkness. She then bites his throat, killing him. At the Roadhouse, Megan and Sophie discuss Billy, who stormed in and out of Megan's kitchen, bleeding from his nose and mouth.

Analysis: Since Janey-E is revealed to be Diane's estranged half- sister, it seems even more possible now that she helped Evil Cooper fabricating Douglas Jones and is still communicating with her. The reason for their estrangement isn't discussed but it could be something quite intense. I was wondering why Andy was chosen to get the message from the Fireman. Initially I thought that Hawk with his special knowledge of mythology in and around Twin Peaks might have been the perfect choice but I figured out that Andy might have been chosen because he is innocent, kind and pure. The Fireman is confirmed as positive spiritual entity, reminding me of the concept of a good god. Sarah Palmer's actions seem to confirm that she is indeed the girl that had to serve as a host to the monstrous entity that appeared in New Mexico. This means that Sarah Palmer both had a demon under her chest as well as an angel in her womb when she gave birth to Laura Palmer. Now that Laura Palmer is completely gone, Sarah Palmer has become evil. The description of Billy's injuries might fit to the drunk guy in Twin Peaks' jail. Since he repeats every word he hears, he could be manufactured and controlled by someone else like Douglas Jones. Since we saw Evil Cooper winning an arm wrestling competition in episode thirteen, it's possible that Freddie wears the glove to defeat Evil Cooper when he returns to Twin Peaks. He could become the unexpected hero of this season.

Description: After a slow-paced thirteenth episode, this one is one of the most entertaining, eventful and surprising episodes of the new seasons and the entire series. Especially the episode's second half involving three mysterious events in Twin Peaks is outstanding and will please old and new fans alike.

Favorite scene: This episode had numerous outstanding scenes. However, my favourite one was when Naido was brought to the jail. The situation comedy involving her, a mysterious drunk man and a desperate Deputy Sheriff Chad Broxford was great comedic relief and I have watched this scene over and over again.

Holy Mrs. Palmer
ThomasDrufke15 August 2017
It's not that this week's Twin Peaks revived my interest in the series, but it did give a whole lot more insight and clues into what's going on. The biggest takeaway has to be the fact that both Gordon & Sheriff Truman are both on the same page regarding the fact that there are two Coopers. It took a whopping 14 episodes for law enforcement to figure it out, but at least we're at that point. It's about dang time. Andy visited the white lodge and was joined by The Giant/The Fireman/??????. That was quite the moment for a character who has spent most of his time as the comedic relief of the show. Overall, this series is a million times darker than its predecessor, and this episode hit that home rather well. Speaking of which, Gordon had an Inception moment with Monica Belluci, I don't know if those two things will ever be linked with each other. Not sure how to interpret the dream, but it sure was memorable. A few other noteworthy tidbits include, Diane and Janey-E being estranged sisters, the no-eyed lady being found naked in the forest by the white lodge, James hearing a mysteriously similar sound to what Ben Horne heard at his place, and Mrs. Palmer inexplicably murdering a man in the bar with her face. What the hell just happened. I'm not sure what to think of this show after this episode. I literally have the same reaction every week.

0 to 60 Real Fast
Samuel-Shovel10 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Part 14 does something that the previous 2 episodes really didn't do and that is advance the plot. There's been a lot of complaining among fans regarding the snails pace of the plot lines as Season 3 has went along. Those critics would be hard-pressed to find a Season 3 episode with more plot thrown into it.

Thoughts: Sarah Palmer's connection to the Black Lodge that has been hinted at throughout Season 3 seems to have been confirmed with the finale of this episode. Her scene was both chilling and wonderfully done.

James finally got some screen time in this one but was unfortunately used as a side character to lay out exposition for a new player to the game. It feels as if Freddy and his glove might play some kind of important role as we near the end but time will tell.

Andy's visit to the sky leaves us with a lot of unanswered questions moving forward. How much does Andy know? Judging by the flashback on the ceiling, Andy should know the entire storyline of Laura Palmer and the fight of good versus evil. Whether he's aware he knows this or just has a feeling is something yet to be determined.

Connecting Diane to Janey-E pretty much ties up the loose end of how to connect all parties involved together. Truman's conversation with Cole brings everybody full circle and the inevitability of their interaction is palpable.

Conclusion: I have no real qualms with this episode. After a few lackluster ones, it was nice to have one that really kept me on edge throughout the duration. Lots of eerie happenings make for a solid hour of TV.

Warning: Spoilers
FINALLY, we got a lot of payoff this episode. Actual answers. The FBI now know about the possibility of two Coopers, which is backed up by a previous case that explains Blue Rose, which had the same phenomenon. Janey-E being Diane's half-sister was a pretty big wow moment. This whole entire conspiracy has been planned out by someone, perhaps the Fireman as we discovered his name to be this episode. Or perhaps he is just a part of it, and the Woodsmen another part. Dougie Jones is certainly a fabrication of the Black Lodge I would assume. I do really like the way this show includes dreams, and how they seem to be so closely related to reality. We also finally got the voyage to the coordinates in the mountains, and Andy of all people is the one who's sucked up into what I assume is the White Lodge. I love the style and the setting of it, and the flashbacks to what I think is Fire Walk With Me worked very well. I think Andy may just know pretty much what we know having seen that. The story that Freddie gave was enthralling. It was a pretty simple story but I was gripped from start to finish, and he may actually be a key part of the last episodes. This whole thing appears to be global. Sarah Palmer seems to be some kind of evil entity which came as a shock. Someone else took their face off in a previous episode but I can't remember who it was, though I'm pretty sure it happened in the Black Lodge, so basically, not good. I'm just glad that we finally got an episode with literally no wasted scenes, and plot progression throughout. It's no wonder it was the best episode of the season, with the exception of part 8

Part 14
Prismark1020 October 2017
Gordon Cole after receiving news from Sheriff Truman tells Albert and Tammy of a dream he had featuring the actress Monica Bellucci in Paris. Gordon recalls seeing his younger self and the time when Phillip Jeffries returned briefly to the FBI office and pointed at Agent Cooper.

You can feel the plot lines converging as Gordon is told about the two Coopers. Diane reveals that Janey-E is her half sister and the FBI office in Las Vegas are told to find Dougie Jones.

In Twin Peaks itself. Hawk, Andy, Bobby and Sheriff Truman go into the woods following Major Briggs instructions and find a naked woman. Andy gets pulled into a vortex and sees the giant known as the fireman. This woman who has been into a cell for her own protection and Freddy, the security guard working with James Hurley and who has green glove look like that have a big part to play in events.

Sarah Palmer walking around all these years like a drunk, just see that big glass of Bloody Mary she has seems to have been inhibited by an evil entity all along as well.

This was a terrific episode, well paced, well plotted yet also bizarre and also brilliant. We actually got to see very little of Kyle Maclachlan which was mainly flashbacks from Fire Walk With Me that featured clips of David Bowie. Yet we now feel it is drawing together for some kind of showdown in Twin Peaks itself.

Its about to end,the return is about to end What m going to do now ..

Absolutely fantastic of an episode. From the beginning when i saw Tammy and Albert talking about blue rose i got the notion that it ll be a very straight forward episode . We got Dougie for less to none in this which hints something interesting is going to happen to cooper . The woods! Aahh yes .. I have been waiting for an episode like this since i ended season 1.The nature's mystery and its essence, the forest, the music just hits the note in my heart. Many important characters still feel like a haystack,(Audrey, james, shelly,Richard)and we are loosing time now. I hope it doesn't affect the overall story of dear fbi agent Dale cooper & yeah

Whats up with Sarah , why's she's acting (How to put)~ Devilish?

Is the story finally starting to make some "sense"?
lareval9 October 2021
I feel this episode starts to make some work into bringing the whole series a (kind of) full circle. A fast paced, thrilling and trippy hour that sets up a dark, dreamy theory that could tear the whole Twin Peaks world apart.

Is the story "finally" making some sense?
lareval9 October 2021
One of the best episodes of this series, not only because the pacing is tight but because the plot starts to bring a full circle. Or at least kind of. If the dreamy theory that it boasts it's true, could be a dark and shocking revelation. Let's keep watching!

Plus: the ending song is one of the best of the run.

Part 14
bobcobb30113 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
There was still the quirkiness and randomness we have come to expect (a dream about Monica Bellucci) but we finally got some answers too. We learned what the season is finally about and we learned what the people still in Twin Peaks need to do.

But we also got an unexpected moment. For months we have been wondering what is wrong with Sarah. Is she just depressed from her daughter dying at the hands of her husband being possessed by a serial killer? Nope, it looks like some kind of evil is in her and it's going to be great to see where this goes.

More eventful but still horrendous
alexx66816 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Truman, Hawk, Andy and Bobby finally go to Jack Rabbit's Palace where they discover the eyeless woman from episode three. A vortex appears, sucks Andy into another plane, where he is confronted by the Giant. The Giant implants him with a sort of recap of what has happened/ will happen, then sends him back to earth. In the meantime, James Hurley is working as a security guard in the Great Northern, alongside a British chap who's wearing a rubber glove that makes him freakishly strong (lol?!). Finally, Sarah Palmer goes to a bar where she is, ahem, flirted by a persistent truck driver, but then takes off her face and eats him (literally), in a third-rate horror scene with horrendous CGI that feels like it was taken out of one of the worst "Hellraiser" movies. Is that the best you can do, Lynch?

Anyhow. The story continues to be weak, but because this episode was more eventful, it immediately makes it better than the previous ones. Unfortunately, the lame story exposes yet another of the new series' weaknesses. While it was always the case that a weird story lied at the center of the old "Twin Peaks" (the Laura Palmer mystery initially, the quest for the Black Lodge afterwards), it was interwoven between a noir labyrinth concerning the shady dealings of the town inhabitants, a humane bittersweet small-town drama, and chunks of offbeat soap-opera. These were as central as the weird quasi-mystical, quasi-horror, quasi- sci-fi "main" story lines. The show was called "Twin Peaks" after all, it was about the denizens of Twin Peaks.

One would have hoped that after Lynch made the mistake of ditching all that and focusing entirely on Laura Palmer in "Fire Walk With Me", resulting in a one-sided and mediocre film, he would have learnt his lesson. But no. This new series revolves entirely around the dull doppelganger story, with virtually no subplots, no interesting characters, no television flair whatsoever, uninspired direction (name me one scene that is as poetic as Laura's painting in "Fire Walk With Me"), cold digital feel (superiority of film proved once again), cheap CGI, ludicrous Roadhouse endings that do little more than promote Lynch's favorite hipster bands, laughable horror outbursts like the "Exorcist"-esque kid in the car, and so on, and so on. Let us hope at least that after two unmitigated disasters back-to-back (this and Inland Empire) nobody gives Lynch free reign ever again.

Let's *really* rock !
pantoleinasdimitris24 February 2024
Part 14. Finally, more plot progression after two mild episodes!

Now we're really picking up! Let's rock, but actually this time.

This episode starts greatly, and ends greatly. We see many references to the old series, more progression on the Brigg's mystery, and the Laura diary pages.

On the eye of the storm, Andy, Bobby and Hawk see a vortex in the sky, which transports an unexpected someone into an unexpected room. Finally, some insight on a dull 'comedic relief' character!

Sarah Palmer continues to be a troubled woman, with major mental health issues, which become super apparent in the final scene.

All in all, a lovely episode.

A dream with Monica Bellucci
AvionPrince1622 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Two events who mostly get my attention: the FBI agents who are aware that there is two Cooper because of the Laura diary. And the other event was with Andy who got into that something weird in the place where Briggs son showed them. And a woman that they hide in prison. Was pretty weird. I still dont know what really happened and who is that woman but im sure we will know it pretty soon. The mysteries are there obviously and we met also Tina daughter; the Tina who Audrey dont like. And we heard a weird story too. The old lady can remove her face and seem dangerous. Weird. I mean its still pretty confusing and dont really make sense for now even thar dream with Monica Belluci. Weird. And the FBI agent will do some research about the Dougie character. The revelations will come i suppose. Need to see more to make me less confused because i dont really understand but the mysteries are still there and that was interesting visually and in the stories possibilities.
