- A young newlywed begins to doubt her husband's love when his rival is found dead. When she starts investigating the death and her husband's past, she becomes his next target.
- Jay Morgan is the uncrowned king of a Rocky Mountains valley, who as main employer and sponsor expects everyone to gratefully help execute his plan to modernize the ski resort his grandfather built, but his aunt Barbara Morgan and her lawyer are equally determined to keep the valley unspoiled. Jay's newly-wed Kristen Ward, poor-born daughter of single sheriffs deputy Annie, attempts to mediate a compromise. Jay however is furious that Barbara started initiating Kristen in his dark family secrets, and shortly after Barbara has a fatal fall at home. This renders the Wards, and her resort-employed gay old friend Bob Sloan, increasingly suspicious of Jay and his henchman Mark Adams. They are all in for unpleasant surprises.—KGF Vissers
- After knowing each other for two months, Jay Morgan and Kristin Ward elope, they having met as the wealthy owner of the Paradise Mountain Lodge, a small ski resort in Oregon, and the lodge's gardener respectively, she, from a working class background, having gotten the job through her longtime best friend, Gus Hoffman, who also works at the lodge as a bellboy. Jay has plans to develop the valley as a year 'round resort, which doesn't sit well with many longtime valley residents, including his only surviving relation, his maternal aunt, Barbara Morgan, the two long estranged due to this difference among other things. Upon the arrival to the lodge of Kristin's mom and sister, Annie Ward, a deputy sheriff in the town where Kristin was raised, and Caitlyn Ward (both invited), and Barbara (not invited), Kristin finds that Jay has withheld information from her about his past life, most which he could explain away, like a former assault charge he categorizes as an error of youth. There is, however, one item, that he can't answer regarding his mother, Evelyn Morgan, who died when Jay was a child. As Jay goes through the process of the development hitting one hurdle after another, Kristin comes to discover more evidence about his past which he's hidden. If Kristin comes close to discovering the entire picture behind Jay, especially if it gets in the way of his grand plan for the development, she may befall the same fate as many in Jay's past life who have conveniently had accidents.—Huggo
