Spoilers. Bullen gets jumped by a bunch of thugs. He is collateral damage in the way of a planned explosion. The mongrels knife him into submission, dragging him to suffer alone in an empty room. Along comes Aurelia looking for her back pay. She finds Bullen lying helpless on the floor. She helps herself to his cash that he was paid for ridding the hospital of chloroform, a sneaky rebellion against the orders of Dr. Foster. Aurelia gets paid and leaves Bullen to suffer some more, saying on her way out that the Lord works in mysterious ways.
Bullen keeping hospital patient soldiers from being fed? What the hey! He never missed a meal, himself.
More spoilers. Aurelia gets her little boy back, right before she leaves to start a new life up North. Lord be praised.
Nurse Hastings, she of the nasty mouth, does a back somersault after doing her drunk scene. This is a LOL moment. Seems she has a falling out with her crooked doctor paramour, and hits the bottle (brandy?) in a fit of retaliation.
A well-known actor shows up, again, to help organize a hospital blowup campaign, in which the nation's president is supposed to be blown to smithereens. Does the hospital ever blow? Does the president get out of there okay, only to make it to April 1865 when he isn't so lucky?
