The shirt worn by Lewis when Hathaway takes him and Laura Hobson to the airport is the same shirt Lewis was wearing when he returned from British Virgin Islands in the first episode of the series. The sign a grinning Hathaway is holding up is also the same one he used at the airport while waiting for Lewis in the pilot episode.
This was the last ever episode of "inspector Lewis. by then Kevin Whately had grown tired of playing the Lewis character for 28 years and decided that he wanted to stop
The poem Hathaway reads to his father is "As Kingfishers Catch Fire" by Gerard Manley Hopkins. He previously read him another Hopkins poem in "One For Sorrow".
The lines used in the opening scene are from the novel The Brothers Karamazov.
Nicholas Jones, appearing in the last episode of "Lewis", is the brother of Gemma Jones, who appeared in the first episode of "Inspector Morse" ("The Dead of Jericho").
