Rocket League: Hugely addictive
Platypuschow14 November 2018
Rocket League came to me free via the PS+ service, had it not I'd have likely not given it a chance being that it's essentially a sports title thus not something I'd be interested in.

Sequel to the considerably less known Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars (2008) Rocket League demonstrates that the simple concepts are usually the best and deliver a game that years later is still outstandingly popular.

Basically Rocket League is football, with cars. Two small teams of vehicles, 2 goals and 1 supersized ball are all it takes to have a wickedly addictive good time. Even for a guy like me who cares not for sports or racing games can't deny that what they've accomplished here is outstanding.

With constant updates, alternative game modes including a vehicular version of ice hockey and basketball the developers have demonstrated that sometimes it makes more sense to stick with one game instead of yearly releases.

Stupidly simple, incredibly addictive and so much depth for such a shallow concept.

The Good:

Really addictive

Looks great

Regular updates

The Bad:

Microtransactions

Things I Learnt From This Game:

Playing some games makes me feel chavvy

Nobody ever wants to play goalie!

There is always that one guy who just wants to blow everyone up

So Simple, So Good
jzaiger-889508 February 2021
Do you like cars? Do you like football? If you like both or either of those things - play rocket league

I got RL at launch and have played it consistently in the years since, never have I thought a game could hold my attention for so long but the deceptively simple gameplay and fantastic approach to season passes make me come back.

I'm unsure how to move to EPIC will effect the game long term, hopefully not for the worse, but to date there are few games out there you can jump into for a few matches with friends consistently for years and still have fun.

I do hope one day the game gets a true next gen sequel, would be good to get an updated look to the game

I enjoyed the game and found really good to play. It have interesting mechanics and its easy to learn but hard to master. I found it very good anyway alone or with more players. And its a definitely a game that will require some skills from the player.

Hard, but it's my favorite online-game
saveliydalmatov2 January 2024
Oh, how I love this game. It's just the benchmark of an online game, it has a lot of pros and almost no cons. How much I bombed in it, how much I was happy, how much time I spent...

Positive :

  • Gameplay
  • Colorful (Very cool maps, cars)
  • User-friendly and stylish interface.

  • Various events, modes, tournaments - that's why you don't get tired of playing.

Minuses :

  • Servers. Yes, they are generally good, but they lag quite often, which is why the games spoil a lot
  • Difficulty. The main and strange disadvantage. It is difficult to learn how to play well in the game. Yes, this is not such a big minus, but it may take more than a year to play really cool. This scares off many newbies.

But in general, the disadvantages are too insignificant, so 100% 5/5 10/10 100/100 for me.

Best non scripted and innovated sports game Of all time
aronflame19 August 2019
This game is so addicting and fun especially to play with your friends. The content is unbelievable and very cheap too! Then competitive system is top tier and very incredible as you go with a journey with your friends to rise to the top.

The best online game!
matthewleighton25 July 2020
This is by far the best online game ever imo, this game you can grind for hours, days, months, years and not get bored, I've always had this game installed never deleted it as I always play this game no matter what, I am a C3 and hoping to be higher. This game is extremely fun to grind alone, with friends and play competitively. 10/10 would definitely recommend, and it's great that it's becoming free to play.

A great format, but very poor customer service, and a bizzare bug.
welshnew5028 December 2020
Some games do nothing new in their design, RL can be said to-NOT be one of those, even though, it is like some spacial-goals sports-like games,

and in saying that, i could've given it even 9 out of 10, if the needed customization, settings, ease of use/play had no problems, match making etc had no problems, many of which it does not,

-----

However, there's 3 major things, that affect fair play & experience/performance;

#1 There is poor prevention of DDoS like or small-scale interference with players' connections, leading to some players getting disconnections at OBVIOUS times - i myself, have had many daily-sessions, where i have no connection problems for hours, but then all of a sudden, during the daily-tournament, i get a total disconnection for no reason whatsoever, while my conenction continues to work for OTHER programs, and this gets described by staff as things like "a bug" , "latency" , etc, instead of ADMITTING there's a problem, and sometimes, when missing a player makes a huge difference COMPETITIVELY in a team, i get a disconnection, and the team i was with loses a player! Or sometimes it's someone else - servers are getting hacked, or DDoS like commands are being sent to people's-OWN ISPs, interfering with your ability to play fairly/competitively. Presumably bribery has been going on in hidden places, to facilitate this. No idea where the corrupted programs are / which ones are used. Maybe something different on the RL servers themselves, than would be on players' ISPs. *shrugs*

Quite obviously cheating happening un-checked, described as 'unfortunate, or similar.

Often the ticket-responders ... outright deny the POSSIBILITY , so there's in effect staff COVERING IT UP, which is a disgrace to the series, and makes for an UN-level playing field, in terms of competition.

Their either incompetence in identifying SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR or a program or computer, or their deliberate choice/particiaption in propogating the company's LIES, about how clean / safe their game is, fails to address EITHER technical aspects correctly, OR, tries to re-name / re-define them, without evidence, perspective/expereince to-be-able-to, NOR process sufficicent to allow players to be able to send a reasonable amount of things like logs, session data, etc , to even ATTEMPT, to investigate.

I have literally NEVER had a suspicious disconnection investiagated. ZERO, out of ... pfff.... i've given up reporting them ... 50?

#2, In my 1st season, they could not accomplish one of the most basic business record-keeping, and customer-service needs of any business of any kind, seemingly because of stripped-base / deliberately underfunded customer-service centers or off-shore exploited general ones perhaps,..

... in expectation of a fast-bubble popping quickly, and so an anticipation of losing money in the long term, if they took care of players/customers?

*shrugs*

I made a decision not to spend a cent on the game after it, and it speaks volumes for good design outside of only the game-engine itself - sometimes you need to put some effort into a versatile website, alternative purchasing options, etc, just to make sure almost everyone if not everyone won't have a problem doing what anyone SHOULD be able, to do. Unlike normal, when customer service do all they can to help you to spend money, they were marginalized so much, that they literally did not help me to make a purchase, SPEND money, unlike so many trash micro-transaction games out there that do the exact opposite. If it had not been for something that would've affected my enjoyment of the game, i could've ignored it, but the neglect on the part of the owners/management, was deliberate enough that it came across as almost offensive, or at least patronizing of 'knowing' what the customer does or does-not need.

Like that, beyond inflexible,.. into,.. we'll-be-telling-you what you do or don't need, based on what we expect should or shouldn't happen in our designed processes. DENIAL of possibility, of what happened, despite a lot of effort on my part.

They even got me or i should say, TRIED to get me to pass-on detail from their CS to Epic's and back and forth, despite the fact that i pointed out that they should be having to talk to EACH OTHER,.. but instead they left the cut&paste, and attempted re-explanations, each time i got someone new,.. to me.

So yeah, maybe 2 out of 10 for customer service / account/website management?

#3 The replays don't actually record what your screen displays,.. which makes complaining and PROVING what happened to you in terms of opportunity with what-you're-looking-at more difficult than it needed to be (it records some kind of controls-signals-sent or similar log, and then GENERATES a simulation of what would've-been what you saw,.. not ACTUALLY what you saw - i've noticed this when trying to save something that happened in game and then it wasn't there in the replay, multiple times, i'm very sure)

----

in addition to that, some bizzare crash bug or corrupted code, exists in the Iran and/or Iraq flags, every time i do nothing but SCROLL DOWN the page, it crashes!

Someone has created some kind of thought-justified 'punishment' for selecting either. Obviously there is not one for selecting an Israeli flag.

This 'accidental' 'discrepancy' , is a stain upon the brand and names of all of the executives/directors of the company, in not RE-selecting programmers to fix the problem, leaving the same ones there, at least neglecting it if not also also the same people who MADE it. I can't say which, but it's still there.

And most stupidly of all about this one, is this aberrant, total-system-crashing code, whatever it is,.. is NOT getting to who it's supposed to, even-if one thought it somehow some kind of returned-fire attack on those that ... what ... attack Israel?

Rrrrrright, keep your paranoid-politics / false-claims out of the game, please.

No idea who it's meant to be (who's MEANT to be being affected by it ), but it's causing crashes in people NOT-CONNECTED with any identity or interest in either country or side,.. whatsoever, at least in my case.

So ... what-the??? If someone wanting to make allies in that context, properly thought it through, they would not annoy people by doing that. I am MORE likely to give favor / befriend Iranians and Iraqies from this,.. not-LESS.

Not everyone responds to what would be 'power' ... in the same way.

Interestingly, i noticed the first time, soon after buying the same, that it happened at-first, with the Iran & Israel team flags,..

... but then it CHANGED, to Iran & Iraq.

Yeah whatever, i was just trying to play the game.

Unnecessary, disrupting, and unsafe, in terms of data-loss. A shame.

Brilliant game with a couple minor negatives
marshjay-4157231 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The good things are that its an addictive game, where you can play with your friends and family. You can also change your cars and there accessories which is cool. Now onto the negatives for one it is cross platform which is a real pain for me and my friends so we can't trade or speak to each other on mic and one last thing is that theres only 2 cars in the rocket pass which is a little boring and annoying. But all round a good game. I would recommend

Rocket League: The Ultimate High-Octane Soccer Experience!
quoraerikhansson29 December 2022
I absolutely love the game Rocket League! It is one of the most fun and addicting games I have ever played.

The concept of the game is simple but genius: you control a rocket-powered car and play soccer (or "football" for those outside of the US) with it. The gameplay is fast-paced and exhilarating, and the controls are smooth and responsive.

One of the things that sets Rocket League apart from other games is its high level of customization. You can unlock and customize different cars, hats, and other cosmetic items, and there are tons of different arenas to play in. The variety of options keeps the game fresh and interesting, and it adds a layer of depth to the gameplay.

Another thing that I really enjoy about Rocket League is the online multiplayer aspect. You can play with friends or against other players online, and the matchmaking is generally pretty good. The competitive aspect of the game is a lot of fun, and there are different ranks and leaderboards to track your progress.

Overall, I highly recommend Rocket League to anyone who is a fan of fast-paced action games or soccer. It is a truly unique and enjoyable experience, and it has quickly become one of my all-time favorite games.
