Wonderful show

I absolutely love this show. My late husband was a vet and practiced here in British Columbia, so the show brings back happy memories. Julian and Peter are Superb vets and they have an amazing support team. Congrats on a great show. I came to Canada in 1966 from the UK so the show is also a nostalgia trip.

A breath of fresh air on TV
dobbinman15 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
In this time of the reality show we have become used to seeing the ordinary, the extraordinary and the plain bizarre people of the world going about their ordinary/extraordinary/ridiculous lives. It can leave you somewhat jaded about the whole gender. This show is one of those gems amongst the masses of the style. It features a North Yorkshire UK vet's practice that was originally set up by James Herriot (real name James Alfred "Alf" Wight , OBE, FRCVS) in Thirsk UK and follows the daily (and nightly) trials and tribulations of him and his fellow staff as they administer to animals pet, farm and wild in the area. There are graphic sequences featuring a number of cesarean operations on cows etc. and heart touching moments when animals such as alpaca have to be put down. Most of the time though the treatments are a success and you see many animals being treated successfully with the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales in the backdrop. A real tear-jerk-er/ hart warmer of a series that is furiously addictive and a must-see in our family.

A new British Favorite

My Mum and I found this show on our recent visit to the UK. I grew up with All Creatures Great and Small - both the books and the TV series on our public television station. As a teenager I was in Yorkshire and able to meet the real Siegfried (James 'Herriot' White was out of town) and then later as an adult I visited the veterinary museum at the original Skeldale House.

This reality TV show is fantastic! I hope that it is picked up in the US by Animal Planet or our PBS station. I love that Christopher Timothy is the narrator. For now I can enjoy it by streaming online.

Real people, real situations, no fake jeapordy - what reality TV should be
adrianmatt21 November 2020
If all reality TV was like this I wouldn't be so allergic to it. Rather than looking for (even stoking) conflict, it celebrates warm and engaging people, both the vets and their clients. Instead of scripting scenes to try (and normally fail) to make them more dramatic/funny/interesting, it lets these warm and engaging people live their real life dramas, and in the process lets you see how genuinely funny and interesting people can be when just benig themselves. And then of course there is the glorious scenery, and the animals which are the supposed reason for the programme. I say supposed because it is really about the people first and foremost; in the Greens, a supremely cuddlable old couple, the show really has struck gold. The vets tend to deal with clients more like friends, and I never got the impression as in some vet shows that they are preening for the camera. My only worry is that the takeover of the Skeldale practice by conglomerate Medivet, saying they will no longer treat large animals, might kill off the show.

Brilliant show, love watching but, can I suggest one of the opening shots of a horse being castrated to be removed as it's was the worst equine castration I've seen in many years of working with horses and to be honest I wouldn't entertain using that vet to castrate one of my horses..

Thornbury vets have been helping me look after my dog scooby for years but unfortunately tday I had to take scoobs for a vet to see him but unfortunately hed got to his final hours of his life which obviously has totally devastated me but im very pleased to say Thornbury vets delt with this difficult time for us with total professionalism and caring making a really tough time for us just that little bit bearable so a huge thanks to all the staff and vets who helped me take care of my much loved companion scooby.

Warning: Spoilers
A wonderful show, a real-life version of the James Herriot series, All Creatures Great and Small. In some ways even better than the original since this series is real life without any actors. Both vets Julian and Peter are appealing in their own ways, Julian as the slightly shy but endearing younger vet and Peter as the older and a bit more jocular older vet, who actually trained under the original James Herriot in the practice that was the basis for the "little dog and cat stories" that became so phenomenally popular.

I too find myself wondering why they don't wear masks to do surgery, and often don't even wear gloves. Maybe this is is standard veterinary practice in England but is seems counter-intuitive. I guess it's possible for filming operations they substitute mask-free scenes so the viewers can better identify with the vets performing the operation. Just a guess. I have to presume they wouldn't endanger real animals for production reasons so there has to be a good explanation.

An excellent series that I can't recommend highly enough. Thoroughly captivating and enjoyable. I'd go 11 if I could!

Love this show....generally

While I do enjoy this show a lot, the vets both seem really nice and very caring, what I don't understand is why neither of them feel the need to wear surgical masks while operating? they are working over a sterile field that should be protected at all costs and when you have someone breathing that close to an open wound it doesn't bear thinking about what germs are being transferred, I wouldn't want them operating on any of my animals.

Watched since it began and still won't miss an episode.

For any animal lover, this is the ideal program. The main two vets, Peter and Julian are amazing, their knowledge, kindness and dedication is plain to see. When sadly they lose an animal or have to euthanise one its clear to see that it affects them. One thing that stands out with The Yorkshire Vet is that this isn't one of those shows that highlights rich, well off people that you can't relate to, it shows down to Earth, normal, average people that you can instantly make a connection with and feel their loss or pain. Long may it continue.

How long?
alanfisher20013 May 2022
This came up on my television after something else I was watching, whilst I was aware of the programme, never actually watched it until now.

Another 'people doing their job show' which to be honest I cannot see the attraction of. Then I looked at the information and saw it was series 14!

How there can be 14 series of a show whose highlights in my episode were a guinea pig being anaesthetised and a pony getting an injection, is totally beyond me. Needless to say I will not be watching any more.

awesome
tinafranklin-160159 April 2024
Both of the vet shows i used to watch all moved to streaming services that you have to pay for. So i was searching and decided to give the yorkshire vet a chance and i am so very happy that i did. The scenery is awesome and the vets really care for their animals and the owners. They are nothing like the one in michigan and i am so glad they are not. Really refreshing to watch a show such as this one. Peter and julian are really concerned about their animals that they care for. I really enjoy seeing the Greens and how nice everything is in Yorkshire. Makes me want to visit. It is truly a breath of fresh air on.
