- In pursuit of wounded Grimaud near his native town Epernay in the northeastern region, despite Athos's badly infected arm wound, the musketeers stumble into a net trap set up by the women and children who fled the horrors of recurrent army passages into a self-improvised forest camp. The only man, wounded Bastien, is a deserted conscript. He belongs to a brigand band of former soldiers in search of a gold treasure. Everybody keeps secrets, one woman even about her orphan foster son Grimaud. In Paris, king Louis isn't inclined to reconcile with the adulterous queen, whom Treville proposes as regent -not royal brother Gaston- for the dauphin, whom both want to succeed.—KGF Vissers
