When Vegas marries Varanasi..!
samriddhsingh18 June 2016
Though based on the trending love cliché of cultural mismatch in India, the show gets different by its story telling and uncensored reality. Its less about the theme and more about the way its expressed via quality acting and smart script by the talents involved.

Ali fazal and Angira dhar justifies the intensity and variation of their characters. Ayesha Raza and Sumeet vyas are exceptional but the other casts bring nothing new to their character and can be easily outmatched by any other artists of the same category.

The similarity between BBB and Permanent Roommates season 2 is not uncanny as both looks like the same stories in parallel universe bonded by Sumeet Vyas;despite this both are sincere efforts to deliver something new to the India's young audience.

Yrf can bring more respect to their brand name among the young generation of India if they keep making more quality shows like BBB instead of making movies like kill dill or bewakoofiyaan..

In the end,its a brilliant effort and a must watch for those who likes real-romantic-comedy (R-ROMCOM) genre..!

Intelligent storytelling that compels to re-think relationships
siddharthaalam27 November 2015
Pawan(Ali Fazal) & Shahana (Angira Dhar) are to wed soon & their families have been invited to meet each other for the first time, except unlike any other 'Indian Pre-Marriage Ritual' the parents are only meeting, for the first time, 2~3 days before their marriage.

Slick writing, beautiful shot taking (actually very intelligent cinematography) and some nostalgic Band Bajaa Baraat songs engulf you from the very first episode of this series. The only sad part is it that the episodes are small, almost making my statement like an oxymoron; what I mean is that every viewer whose seen the series will want it to not get over, will want more layers unfold off of every character. Will want to know more about each person's background (which btw Anand Tiwari, Amrit & Sumeet Vyas - the three writers have tried to achieve) but with every format of storytelling comes a set of set parameters, which they have to had to abide by.

The series cuts off of its original location, of that of the wedding hotel and moves out to show us how the protagonists met & let me not spoil it for you, because their medium of having met is like a mirror pointed in the faces of our generations.

The parents of each of the protagonists are pivotal. Their performances are spellbound(shouting out loud proving that they are experienced actors). Ayehsa Raza & Gajraj Rao play Ali's parents and tell a tale of the small town parents and their set norms and protocols while Rajit Kapoor & Shenaaz Patel play the parents of Angira Dhar and show us what it is like to have a merger via marriage between the small town and metropolitan (via their parents attitudes) folks.

Neil Bhooplan(Dhulan ki maa ka boyfriend) and Preetika Chawla (Dulhe ki behen) are talents that could have been used well and seem wasted.

A BGM, which is that of a movie which already has pre-set norms and notions in our heads sometimes becomes a hindrance in making new connections. I mean I have to try really hard to not associate the cuteness and innocence of Angira with Anushka (from Band Bajaa Baraat) and the trass language and being a complete desi of Ali with Ranveer (of the same movie).

Bang Bajaa Baraat makes you wait for the last episode like any popular American SITCOM. It makes you realize how its (with much subtlety) a spoof of a Yash raj Film which celebrated the relationships of a couple that organizes and makes weddings happen. It shows you something different with the same melodrama. A guy and a girl after having fought, go to their parents to talk; except unlike the norm, the guy talks to the father and the girl to the mother.

Anand Tiwari shows up in a special appearance; but what he gives us is a special Web Series, unlike any other thats come out in India. Season 2 is awaited more than anything now.

Refreshing Entertainer
wealthguru20 February 2018
Based on the age old Cultural mismatch thought process in India , still with a fresh & new way of presentation, "Bang Baaja Baaraat" comes out as a pure ROMCOM entertainer. Good balance of the ROM as well as COM composition with never a dull moment this 5 episode series is a winner in all respects of tension free, don't apply logics & mind refreshing entertainment quotient. Performances of all the actors is good and Anand Tiwari has proved his mettle in this directorial venture.

Not so promising! yet brings smile on your face
singhrohan-8962221 November 2015
It's an fine Indian daily soap type drama, with the modern dilemma with many plot holes and some sort of poor direction too. About the story I would like to say as if it came out of hurry and no sort of highpoint in it. It feels if you expect something good from YashRaj banner it must have Shahrukh Khan in it. It clearly depicts the dilemma of Modern meets the old I could give some points on that, but the show keeps you busy with it's rightly placed PJ's. The things I like about the show was Acting by the new comer sorry I don't know the name but I feel she's cute, and the boys mother she acts really nice and I guess she's an Theater actor. Things I didn't like about the show was that it feels that it tries to attract hipster audience toward it.Shows things that wouldn't happen in actual life. After Y film's Man's World I expected something more from these people. Bottom Line: It's a modest show attires to keep a smile on your face till the end and can be improvised more properly.

Modern take on flimsy relationships for Indian context
user-209-6193911 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of mini-series available free online on you.

Series title bears similarity to a hit film but plot is entirely different. The 'bang' is probably referenced for the initial episode where character meet through online dating portal and then just have one-night stand with no commitments. Later they meet regularly and decide to continue relationship through marriage. And then all the hell loses like typical family Bollywood drama flick.

Like a typical Bollywood movie, this series includes high dose of humor and drama. Good to watch once.

Reality of modern interstate marriages
watchersbinge13 January 2019
A better and more realistic version of 2 states (Sorry Chetan Bhagat fans). Watch how a cliche' d "Live in relationship turned love marriage" ends when the parents of totally different background meet.

A fun ride through the marriage with lots of confusion , melodrama, double meanings and adventure..

Headache inducing cringe series.
path_to_parth15 December 2022
Plus points: Neil Bhoopalam and Sumeet Vyas.. Put them into any roles and they will shine. Neil could have been a better protagonist in this series. N this role is new kind for Sumeet, but boy he steals the show..

Angira Dhar.. Gazab screen presence. She could have been a much bigger star, n she deserves it. She is a sweet sweet sweet ray of sunshine with powerful range of acting.

Now minus points.

Ali Faizal, the anti national pig: Let his personal views and agenda be aside. But the main question is, does he know acting at all?? Just having one expression, sorry/puppy face. I think acting is more than this.

Story: motive of the story is, (1) Marriage is a mistake. Don't do marriage. Because every marriage they have shown is a failure n makes people unhappy. Just go on tinder and have fun. Divorce ur husband and date your daughter's ex-bf.

(2) No need of family. They only embarrass you. They are messy. Stay away from family and stay happy.

(3) All rituals (hindu ones, ofcourse) ate ridiculous. Don't leave a chance to laugh on hindu rituals.

(4) Love Jehaad is ok. All brothers should allow Love Jehaad and happily be ready with the much needed suitcase.

Interesting Premise, Unrealistic Execution. ♦ Grade C-
nairtejas30 November 2015
There has been this sudden rush of online series in India ever since few vloggers got lucky in 2014, but that doesn't mean that all web-series are good; there are average ones, too. One such series is Man's World (2015). And one that stands on the line is Bang Baaja Baaraat.

Pawan (Fazal) and Shahana (Dhar) are two hot millennials who meet on Tinder, have a few pints of beer, and subsequently decide to get married. Pawan, being a rich gourmet chef, plans a destination wedding at a 7-star and invites his and his fiancée's quirky parents for the wedding ceremony. The series follows the difficulties that they and their parents experience before the D-Day and the surprising secrets that tumble out of the closet one by one.

While the show definitely has potential in this harried times, depicting and ridiculing the humdrum chores and banality that surrounds a wedding, realism is a factor that has not been embraced much. This seriously affects the viewing experience, because it neither challenges the reality nor does it showcase any unlike those hit web-series like Permanent Roommates (2014) and TVF Pitchers (2015) which definitely look like were inspiration behind this. A few jokes here and there, a few cleavages and butt clefts in slow-mo there and here, and convoluted relationships just to induce slapstick humor, and the writers thought the audience would like, comment, and subscribe.

Unfortunately, the audience are getting more and more intelligent. Sometime ago, Shabana Azmi opined that art which irreverently showcases woman as an object of sensuality only surrenders to the male gaze. Which is what primarily happens in the first three episodes. Why else is there not a bachelor party?

Anyways, not getting too critical with the show, the actors do a fine job at enacting the characters. Special love for the parents, and mainly Gajraj Rao. Apart from those mentioned above, the series is shot and directed well. Of course, it would be foolish not to follow YFilms and their creation in the future, but if it continues to mimic YRF (like it did in episode 2, introducing a small clichéd twist), then we better stick to international sitcoms.

BOTTOM LINE: Bang Baaja Baaraat is not a great show, but it sure is a pass-time drama that will appeal to today's generation mostly because of the topic of marriage it unrealistically tackles and how. Enjoy the show for its lightheartedness, nothing else.

GRADE: C-

Can be watched with a typical Indian family? NO

Vulgarity/Profanity: Medium | Kissing/Alcohol: Low

Useless
akanshakes22 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A useless story. They are showing problem where there is no problem. Kept on blaming relatives, traditions and rituals when the main characters broke the marriage totally because of themselves. Showing hypocrisy at all levels, like showing as if people from smaller cities are less educated and backwards and people living in metro cities are over the top. Writers could have done a better job as story was so so fragmented. It was all over the place. Won't recommend to watch. Makeup and dresses were good. Actors did their job very well, acting was good from each one of them. Problem is the story line only.

Prime : Indian marriage rituals is joke for them
nkj-vsp26 April 2020
Let come to point : Wasim can kiss Brahmin girl and brother cannot do anything. Indian rituals is fun for new generation. Marriage is happening so u can take divorce but don't break up before marriage why this points came at all. Mother and daughter love same person and next person has nothing to do with it marrying the same girl even he knows she done many things bad. All accepted and good to watch.

Point 1 really pinch
