Young love has never seemed more lifeless than it does as this dreary drama lurches towards its nauseating finale
There are some comedies that seem to have been rubbed all over with an anti-funny, anti-romance Kryptonite. This is one. It’s the cinematic equivalent of elevator muzak – a festival of glam-smug with zero chemistry between any of its three leads. It’s supposedly a comedy-drama, set in the La music scene: Tracee Ellis Ross plays Grace Davis, a singing legend in middle age who is faced with the career death of a proposed Vegas residency, being forced on her by a cynical, money-mad manager (Ice Cube). Dakota Johnson plays her demure assistant Maggie, a music superfan and vinyl connoisseur (cue: namedropping references to Joni Mitchell) and also a wannabe producer, who tries persuading Grace to record more new songs and stay true to her creativity.

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder appears to have a lot of time on his hands lately. The filmmaker has been active, to say the least, over the past week, posting a bevy of Easter eggs and hidden meanings buried in his 2016 superhero epic Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The reason why Snyder’s been so overt regarding DoJ and not Justice League? It should be fairly obvious.
Snyder is presumptively still fuming with Warner Bros. and DC for discharging him from the aforementioned pic during post-production, before passing the reigns off to Marvel minion Joss Whedon. Snyder got the last laugh, however, when the picture failed in just about every way a comic book blockbuster shouldn’t. We’re now almost five months removed from the flop, and the director is still pouring salt on the Dceu’s gaping wound.

It’s highly unlikely that we’ll ever get to see the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League in our lifetime. However, the man behind Man of Steel is doing his darnedest to keep tiring enthusiasts fight-ready while we wait for WB to perform a miracle and release the damn thing.
Since it softly hit theaters last year, an online petition has amassed well over 100,000 signatures, pleading with Warner Bros. to make available Zack Snyder’s cut of November’s divisive tentpole. As we all know, but don’t want to admit, we’re never going to see it, but that hasn’t stopped Snyder from fueling the fire.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a whole lot he can do except fan the flames, and DC fanboys will have to find fulfillment in Snyder’s epic, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, instead. The director’s been quite vocal in recent...

It was back in October of 2015 that we first reported on Nicanor Loreti's adaptation of Leo Oyola's novel Kryptonita. A delirious inversion and translocation of super hero tropes into the slums of Buenos Aires where the truly heroic are shunted off to a life in the shadows while the villainous rise to positions of power, the entire thing as a satire both of the DC universe - with all the major characters clearly riffing on DC heroes and villains - and the political realities of Latin America. A huge hit when it screened at the Mar Del Plata film festival before moving on to be an even bigger hit in public release the entire team has since gotten back together to continue and expand...

Over the past few years we've witnessed Brazil's Fantaspoa Festival move into the production film with increasing confidence and it appears very much as though their latest effort will propel them to an entirely new level. Partnering with Argentina's Boikot Films, Fantaspoa Produções will next tackle Odradek, the first internationally oriented project from acclaimed Brazilian director Guilherme de Almeida Prado, who also takes a producing role. Playing in a blend of English and Spanish the cast will be anchored by Kristina Klebe (Rob Zombie's Halloween) and Juan Palomino (Kryptonita) and Lautaro Delgado. The talent behind the camera is interesting as well Fabio Frizzi providing the score and Argentinian painter Santiago Caruso providing paintings for the film. Inspired by the enigmatic Kafka tale, an unusual love...

While Hollywood will soon be unleashing Suicide Squad upon the world, Argentinean director Nicanor Loreti is beating the studios to the punch with his own tale of super villainy with Kryptonita. Adapted from the novel by Leo Oyola Kryptonita revolves around a group of super powered villains who hold a hospital hostage while seeking treatment for one of their own while police forces barricade them within the building.About to have its world premiere as part of the Argentinean Film Competition section at the Mar Del Plata Film Festival - a section I'm actually on the jury for this year - Loreti has just released the first trailer for Kryptonita and it looks like bold, stylish fun.
