Of all Godard's trailers I've seen this is best of them all. A different approach yet with those defined characteristics from his works, the trailer for "Le Mépris" ("Contempt") is a feast to our eyes and ears. Two narrators (a man and a woman) presenting to us what we're about to see (the sea, the tragedy, the kiss, the book, the cinema, etc.), whom we're about to see (Bardot, Fritz Lang, Jack Palance) and all the colorful scenes from that great movie. Groundbreaking method of selling a movie, unique - though JLG used this idea time and again later on - but hardly ever used by Hollywood and other nations in order to compose the commercial for their movies.
This trailer fits my exact idea of what I like to see in order to make me watch the film later on: provides all the information I need; barely touches the story or revealing major plot points; and obviously who's involved in it as well. I watched "Contempt" ages ago, it left a vague but good impression, but now that I've seen the way Godard used that movie to get audiences to see it with this piece, I feel deeply inclined to go to the journey all over again. It's simply poetry in motion. 9/10
