Season 5 was already a huge disappointment for me. It was so far behind of what the story could have been, so I just did not enjoy it. But I hoped that this season could make it all better again.
This season premiere though did not do it for me. It felt disconnected, violence seemed to be thrown in without a real purpose, characters seemed like jerks just because they can (which gets tiring at this point - I enjoyed Piscatella for the reason that he actually was a fleshed out character).
But hey, not all hope is lost. There is still 12 episodes left. Maybe it was just this season premiere that did not hit the spot, but the rest of the season will.
We will see.

I'm having trouble understanding all the negative reviews for this episode. I think the new location, new guards and new inmates will serve up plenty of interesting storylines and plot for the rest of the season. Sure, some characters are missing but obviously they will show up eventually... Overall, this was a solid premiere and it kept me interested to see what will happen in the rest of season 6.
And to the reviewer who claims "not all prison guards are stupid, cruel and child-like"... Have you watched literally any episode of this show ever? Yeah, maybe not all guards act like this in the real prison system, but I would wholeheartedly believe that more do than you might think. Prison is corrupt; Orange just implements these beliefs, even if they do end up being a little far-fetched in the end. It's a TV show, get over yourself people. If you don't like it anymore, then don't watch. It's simple.

So I was kinda really disappointed by this season premiere episode. It wasn't at all what I was expecting and there was really no point in to the plot. They should've started this season with episode 2 and just scraped this one all together. it was so bizarre in the beginning it was hard to watch. overall this episode was not good but luckily i finished it and went on to the rest of the season. IT GETS BETTER! Seriously, it does....so just bare this episode and continue the season.

This show is based on a book, and a true story of one woman's journey in prison. By season 6, we have a good dramedy based on sometimes very ridiculous situations. I'll still watch, but only for the standout performances by some of the cast. I don't watch for Jenji Kohan's story, it ran its course 3 seasons back. It's unfortunate the brilliance of "Weeds" didn't carry over to OITNB.

I actually loved the first episode and how they introduced this season following season 5. Crazy eyes was the highlight of the episode and felt like the writers put so much creativeness towards her situation.
I dont get the 2 bad reviews, if you enjoy OITNB, you'll really enjoy the first episode and find it really refreshing because on its sixth season, it manages to capture itself differently this time (except with the guards trope) and deliver a really entertaining episode that makes me feel confident in the rest of the series. Also, reading some of the criticalreviews, this season gets back on track like the first 2 seasons, and I believe it now! Watch it fun!!!!!

I've been looking forward to s6 for a long time.
I can understand that people are hating on this season but I like the change in scenery and think that it was needed. As much as this season overall wasn't amazing, it wasn't bad either, people expect crazy things to happen all the time but forget that this show is revolved around comedic scenes and moments. If you've only seen the first couple episodes and are bored keep watching because after the interrogations are done with and everyone does to gen pop the season gets much more interesting.
Season 6 was much better than season 5 and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
7.5/10 for the first episode! 9/10 for the season!

Review : The only thing I can say in reviewing this episode is how the first episode of a series can be a boarding. As far as I know, the first episode of a series is the real identity of that series. The first episode of this series is so boring that I think the next episodes will be boring enough.

This show needs balance

This series really needs to find balance again. It's fine that it evolved from comedy in the first two seasons to a more dramatic show, but it's just non-stop depressing now with complete idiot characters thrown in on occasion as an attempt to lighten the mood and it doesn't work. And as the other reviewer said, there needs to be a balance with the authority figure characters. They're either sadistic and psychotic or complete clowns with nothing in between. Sadly the show started to tank with the MCC storyline and has yet to recover.

Like every season before, I was so excited for the return of OITNB. That excitement soon turned to irritation. I kept checking to see how much time was left in the episode. Suzanne was like nails on chalkboard this entire episode. They really thought the first scene of the new season should be 10 minutes of Suzanne's hallucinations that moved the story nowhere?!?! So annoying. I hope this season redeems itself for the worst season premiere I've ever seen.

...and very annoying. Suzanne's hallucinations are taking way too long - 30 seconds would be enough, nu 10 minutes - we knew already she's off medication, didn't need 10 whole minutes to remember that.
And now, there is no spark...just dull interviews about the riot...I'm waiting to see the oitnb charm I was used to.

Happy to tune into the new season of O. Happy to see Suzanne and the gang again. But it's gone to far. Last season we were handed plenty of sadomasochistic prison guards. Plenty. There was always a purpose and an end-game. At the conclusion of season 5 we got that payoff. The first scenes of the premier episode overload us with a parade of stupid, corrupt, inept, and cruel guards. When two guards handcuff two of the ladies (no spoilers from me) together, I found my hand moving to my mouse and paused the show. Enough. Not all guards are corrupt and cruel. Not all prison staff are stupid and child-like. Even a darkly humorous show like this must have a balance of good, bad, corrupt, and fair to keep the tension tight and move the story along.

Suzanne's hallucinations were so ridiculous, I couldn't stand to watch. Apparently, they went on for 10 minutes (according to another reviewer) AND contributed nothing to the story. If the show has time for this, I have to assume that the rest of the script is just as vapid. Worst opening to a season I've ever seen... EVER

The show is dead. It's over. Past the expiration date. It jumped the shark. It can not recover from this abomination of a season. This season, demonstrates there are no more ideas aside from their clichéd SJW themes which are cringe worthy and as predictable as the sun setting in the west. The guards, the prison, the facility are all completely unrealistic. Each of the characters that were established in the previous seasons are gone. The actresses are there, but the characters are gone. Do not waste your time with this. It is nothing more than the creators stretching it out for as long as possible to cash in on what was a once good idea.

I would just like to say I am horrified by the ultra violent prison guards in the last few episodes. It is sickening that woman are openly defiled and brutalised by these men. Is this really what happens in American prisons? It's medieval. In the UK woman's prisons are mainly staffed by female guards. I don't think I can carry on with OITNB since it turned so dark and oppressive after the first 2 brilliant seasons.

If this is how the justice system + prison system looks like in America, then it certainly beats the system in any random torturous third world country. The prison guards are behaving worse than the brutal wardens in Evin prison in Iran who tortured and massacred political prisoners, right after the revolution between 1979-1988.
This show is not only humanizing criminals and making us feel sympathy for them but it also portrays them as victims or political prisoners.

As other reviewers have pointed out, the first ten minutes are ridiculous and not worth watching. That opening also doesn't advance the plot one iota.
But the worst thing about this show, as it descends into mediocrity and less, is the portrayal of prison workers, specifically corrections officers (guards). This show tries to portray ALL of them as uncaring, sadistic and hostile. They are cartoon characters or caricatures of real life. And the inmates, many of whom are worthless and trashy, are portrayed as victims every time. The writing on this show was once too notch. Now it is just stupid and pointless.
