It's a pretty fun game!
maulcun30 November 2021
It's a pretty fun game. The story was good and quick, I enjoyed from the beginning to the end. The climax of the mishima family arc was utterly epic.

While this game has great variety of characters, looks, and fighting styles... the lack of offline modes compared to previous entries it's a problem.

The gameplay is fun and nice but it is very hard to master.

If you want a game with small-good storyline with good fights and graphics... buy this game!

A must get!
mashudes9 January 2017
I fortunately had the chance to give this a try at an event not too long ago. It's not just the graphics that look wonderful in their new engine, but the game feels great too! It's smoother than ever before, flows so swiftly, and something about it is unnaturally addictive. Perhaps it's all the pretty particle effects, the crashing and satisfying sound effects of when you land a punch, or maybe all the new gameplay features like the Rage Drive and Rage Arts. Either way, I kept saying "just one more match" again and again as it was quite difficult to stop playing.

This game is an excellent addition to the series and improves on the previous titles in ways big enough to compare it to Tekken 3, which is often regarded as the best in the series. It's the freshest Tekken has been in a long time, and a step in the right direct. Smooth controls, a large roster, fancy visuals, and an extremely detailed customization feature makes this a must have for all Tekken and non-Tekken fans when it finally releases to PlayStation 4, X Box One, and PC.

Heihachi's send off
NuclearNinja9 November 2022
Heihachi has always been one of my favourite characters but even after playing previous titles I didn't actually know that much about him. All of my lore knowledge was from playing the games alone.

I have to say, what a great job they did with the story mode of this game. The cut-scenes and fights merge seamlessly and you really feel a part of the story. Finally understanding Heihachi's motivations was heartbreaking and the final battle with Kazuya was one of the most epic I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

I also loved Akuma's cameo in the story. To be honest it worked so well I hope his presence becomes canon in the Tekken universe.

The original roster had a nice selection and was fairly large. However the DLC releases did not feel in keeping with the other Tekken characters. They were either from a different IP or just a very generic character.

The gameplay mechanics were a nice evolution on previous games.

It's definitely a move away in style from previous Tekken games but I loved it. The online experience and DLC characters are not for me though.

Platinum #5
ocesarebr7 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've always been a fan of Tekken, since Tekken 3 I believe it's the best fighting franchise. Especially 3 and 5, which are my favorites. But some things that made me prefer Tekken over other franchises of the genre were the "films" of each character and the character unlocks that were super fun to unlock several characters AND FOR FREE. I already remember Tekken 6 that I didn't like it much. Then Tekken 7 arrived and even though platinum is extremely easy, it is very disappointing having to pay to unlock characters and there isn't even a cutscene for the characters. And they added the worst thing that is special. Before, usually the only character who had a "special" was Paul and that wasn't bad because it wasn't the focus of the game and now these specials have unfortunately become the trademark of Tekken 7, and will probably return in Tekken 8. Platinum #5 Platinum Game on December 7, 2023.

Ok at best, very disappointing!
P9723 August 2019
The gameplay is fun and it has improved over the years and the graphics are fine (the hair looks very dated) but boy oh boy this game is underwhelming.

the story if you can call it that is very generic and if you cut the last fight between kazuya and heihachi (which was the only cool part) the story has nothing to offer compare to the previous tekken games.

remember when you played the arcade mode for example in Tekken 5 every character had one or two rivalry in the middle and by the end you would get a (mostly fun) cutscene... well forget about it here you get 5 random fights and by the end you get nothing after beating kazumi (she's also a disappointing last boss) now for the cutscenes you only need to win 1 battle with another random character and the cutscenes are very uninteresting, they're all unfunny, it's mostly someone running away from something.

as for the characters themselves why the hell lei or anna are not in the main roster? that's such a cheap move so now you have to pay for them too.

the game overall is very lackluster in its modes, customizations and story, online is fun but as for the single player the game feels really empty, no survival or team battle, after a few weeks you'll be absolutely done with this game unless you have a friend to play with.

5.5/10 easily one of the worst in the series and sadly we won't get tag tournament 3 for this generation either.

What a load of trash!
Dannyboi944 March 2019
I've been a Tekken fan since the first game came out all those years ago, and I've loved each one of them until this rubbish. I held off playing the game for awhile after I heard everyone I know slam the game, but I eventually picked it up, and played it...

1. The story is dreadful. It is way too short, and there is barely any content to keep you coming back. You spend most of the story watching cutscenes, or listening to some guy's voiceover, but when you do actually get down to the gameplay, it's just a wave level with a boss at the end, its bad and boring. Remember the story in Tekken 6? Now that was pretty good. Not only is it not a compelling story, but it leaves so many points unsolved. The story between Kazuya and Heihachi has been around since the beginning, and they did not close that story well at all! What went on here?

2. The Arcade mode. This was my personal favourite thing about Tekken, being able to play different characters through the arcade mode, and get a little story at the end. Does that happen here? Nope. Instead you get 5 levels of fights! Five levels?! It used to be almost double that, and there is no story at the end. Making the whole thing pointless. Instead we get a "character chapter" I think its called, and these are way too short, and are a waste of time.

Despite my hate for this game, it isn't all that bad, the graphics are great, the soundtrack is pretty good also. It is also good that each character is balanced, and none feels overly powerful. I also liked the customisation side to the game, and applaud the developers for not taking advantage of this and blasting it with miscrotransactions. But the the exlusion of some characters from the in game ones, was ridiculous. Really you didn't have Lei Wulong in the original line up? But online mode is alright I suppose.

I really did not like this game at all, as a massive Tekken fan, this was such a disappointment. When the next game comes out, they better improve on these mistakes, because if they don't this franchise will die.

Disappointment when compared to previous tekken games
hasan-passas25 November 2019
It lacks game modes such as team battle, tekken force etc. It loses the couch co op aspect completely. The story mode is like a depressed person talking about his life and it gets boring and irrelevant. I think that they invested so much to the online and micro transaction part that there is no fun. Really missed the character unlocks, bonus scenes from arcade new character only via tekken force completion and also picking a team of 5,6 characters and fighting against my friends jn the living room like it was in tekken 6. And i never had an online session without lag and minites of waiting

Dissapointing
raepzone22 August 2022
This game was awful compared to the previous entries.

The story is incredibly short and boring, barely got trough it just for the respect that I had to the previous games.

Arcade mode was my favorite game mode, but in here is just a couple of random fights and then the boss fight just to get money?

The joy of beating many opponents, most of the time related to their story, and then get a cutscene for each character in the previous games was amazing, why get rid of that? Instead we get A SINGLE FIGHT, with a cutscene that couldn't be worse for the characters.

On top of that, you need to pay to get all the other characters, seriously?

This game was made to play it online and get customized items, which is not why many of us love Tekken. Surely a miss in the franchise.

The graphics need to be fixed
deverichmarissa23 June 2021
I love tekken I've known it for a long time and all but tekken 7 no way the graphics stink and need to be fixed I don't even like the characters new outfits only the stages and noctis from Ffxv and negan from the walking dead being guest stars in tekken 7 but everything else I don't like.
