Pretty but the story isn't interesting
phd_travel10 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This movie uses a familiar Hallmark formula and it is pleasant enough at first. A globe trotting journalist (Rick Malambri) comes home to his mother's struggling Bed and Breakfast. There is a romance with a blogger (Leah Pipes) who is involved with a reality travel show. The rather contrived complication with the reality show thing gets old very fast. It isn't really interesting. The romance isn't too convincing either. Also there are too many characters and the story kind of lacks focus.

I am a Lindsay Wagner fan from Bionic Woman. She still is slim and beautiful in her 60s. It's great she is totally recognizable unlike some actresses her age who have had terrible plastic surgery.

Not a must see and not one of the better Hallmark romances.

Average romance

Warning: Spoilers
This movie was about what you would expect from a romance of the Hallmark channel variety (Pixl/UP TV, in this case). Not bad, but nothing special or out of the ordinary.

To be fair, the visuals were very good. The B&B and its surroundings were beautiful, and it looked just like someplace you'd love to stay. The characters were warm, genuine an likable, with the exception, of course, of the evil, slimy reality host Jared. I love how he left the show in a huff, allowing the much nicer Gina to host the show. The only thing better would have been for him to get some kind of comeuppance for being such a jerk. Maybe being forced to take a humiliating job on a bad show, playing a clown or a guy dressed up as a dinosaur.

The plot about the struggling B&B was somewhat engaging, and you really didn't know how they were going to save that B&B, especially since it seemed certain that slimeball Jared was going to trash the place on his show. The main romance between Andy and Diane seemed a bit underdeveloped. There needed to be more chemistry between them. The other romances with the sub-characters were okay, but not super engaging. I'm not sure how the starving artist was able to stay long-term in the B&B, unless kind-hearted owner Helen was letting him stay there for free. Anyway, I wasn't really feeling sparks between any of the three couples.

So, this wasn't a bad movie. It was a sweet, feel-good movie, which is exactly what we would expect. But there wasn't enough drama, passion, or anything overly interesting to make it a really compelling movie to watch. It was more like something you'd watch late at night to relax and fall asleep to .

Ouch

If you like self-absorbed celebrity hosts who think ratings are boosted by trashing people and places then this is your movie. Jared is so obnoxious and conceited that I turned this movie off several times.

Diane is clueless in her own way. She's worked with Jared and she still thinks he's going to make a "run down" B&B look good. Personally, I don't see how trashing a place that is already unknown is going to boost ratings. Despite her cluelessness about Jared, Diane's thought that helping a place like Forest Cove would be better ratings than trashing it probably makes a little sense.

This movie tries too hard in so many ways. Every wide shot has leaves carpeting the ground almost completely. Jared is too calculating and cruel. Diane tries too hard to help out at the inn. Andy bangs on the same spot outside Diane's room for way too long without doing anything else. "Hayride" alone in the back of an ancient truck?? There's even an abundance of budding romance stories, which is not necessarily a negative as long as it doesn't dilute the main story.

Then there are the overused plot devices like save-the-family-inn, writer/investigator-gets-involved, leaving-for-far-away, and some others.

In movies like these, I look to the relationship building between the leads to make it worthwhile. In this movie, that consisted of repair work. There was no spark. A perfect example is the sour look on Diane's face after Andy says something nice to her. The acting all around isn't a plus.

There is a nice mini-twist at the end which is foreshadowed a little before it happens.

WONDERFUL MOVIE

I love this movie so, so much. But I'm extremely disappointed that I can only watch it on Pixel and unable to purchase the movie the way I do other favorite Hallmark movie's. Even though I've only ever seen it on Pixel.

Refreshing Romance about Characters who Care More about Others than Themselves
richardurbanfamily4 December 2023
I really enjoyed Change of Heart. The themes in the background were being true to yourself and helping others. The owner of the Forest Grove Inn bed and breakfast treats her guests like family. She puts relationships above profits. Her son grew up at the Inn, but is now away a lot. When he returns after some time away, he finds Diane, one of the key characters, staying there, by chance. She has a secret, and so do several other characters in the movie. The ambience of the movie is one of genuine caring among the main characters. Jared is a somewhat prototypical jerk who provides a humorous contrast tot he other less selfish characters.

All in all, a very enjoyable romance story with a sweet theme of unselfish love behind it.
