Perfect
forbesplaid22 May 2016
I felt compelled to write about this series purely because of how much I have enjoyed it.

"Flying Witch" makes me happy. It isn't magical girl anime; no battles, no conflict, no one needs to be saved. It's a story centered around every day life. If you want a program you can lose yourself in, this is a great choice.

Consistent in the mood and atmosphere it creates, "Flying Witch" is like a warm blanket on a cool, sunny day. The colors are mellow and slightly subdued. The pace of the show is relaxed and the soundtrack is an added bonus. Miwa and 96Neko perform the opening theme.

I don't know how to classify this series, or if it even needs it. Slice of life, comedy, take your pick. It's easily become one of my favorites. I had no reservations giving this show a perfect rating.

Beauty can be found in nature, people and even little animated television programs.

A "bewitching" fantasy comedy
ja_kitty_7130 April 2016
Here is another instant anime favorite. Now I wasn't sure whether to label the series "fantasy" or "comedy." But I think it's a fantasy, slice-of-life series that is similar to the film "Kiki's Delivery Service."

Based on a manga that I had never heard of, this series is about Makoto Kowata, a witch-in-training who leaves Yokohama for Aomori with her black cat Chito because it is an old tradition that when a witch turns 15 years old she must leave to begin her training. However, because it is the twenty-first century, her parents believe she should stay with her cousins Kei and his younger sister, Chinatsu.

From watching the first three episodes, I automatically loved the series! With plenty of fantasy, humor, beautiful animation, and a very catchy opening theme song. So overall, my last word is that this is an awesome anime to enjoy.

It left me wanting more!

It really helped that I watched this anime with my oldest daughter, as she's pretty fluent in Japanese and lived in the country for a time. Because of that, she was able to explain a few things that came up during the course of the show. And, since she speaks the language, we watched it subtitled instead of dubbed. If you want to see it, it's available now on Hulu (with commercials) and Crunchyroll.

The show is about 15 year-old witch who moves in with some family friends in a small northern Japanese town. She is, as the Japanese sometimes say, 'My Pace'...meaning she's not like most girls and seems to have her head in the clouds at times. But she's also very kind and sweet....and the friends she gains during the course of the show are also very sweet and likable.

The story is unusual and a lot like Azumanga Daioh (also from the same folks) in that the story isn't so much important as the characters. In other words, the adventures and situations are pretty tame and folks who love mecha anime and Kamen Rider-style shows might find it all a bit dull and wimpy. But I loved it....due to the very sweet characters and situations. Additionally, the animation (compared to other anime shows) is exceptional...almost Studio Ghibli quality...with gorgeous backgrounds. Well worth seeing and quite sweet.

A magical slice of life anime
Tweekums3 July 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This series follows Makoto a teenaged witch from Yokohama who moves to a more rural part of Japan to continue her training with relatives who live there. Here she makes new friends and meet various other witches and supernatural beings such as the Harbinger of Spring and a ghost who works in a café.

It could be argued that not much happens in this series… but that is its charm. The story is told at a very gentle pace, not that dissimilar to shows like 'Aria – The Animation' and 'Non Non Biyori'. Instead of action and tensions we are invited to observe a peaceful and charming world. The characters are all likable and distinctive and the background art perfectly suits the world it is set in. There are some laughs to be had in each episode but these are also gentle; funny things happen but it doesn't seem forced and there aren't obvious gags. Overall I'd certainly recommend this show to anybody wanting a totally inoffensive but enjoyable series.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

One of the least interesting slice of life anime i've watched

I did not have that high expectations for flying witch, but still I got surprised of how uninteresting it was. Usually slice of life is interesting despite nothing happening to advance the plot, you're just interested in the characters and/or having a cosy time. This anime has none of that.

Very fun and cute

Aomori, Japan. In a land blessed by nature's bountiful beauty, bizarre things begin to take place. Makoto Kowata, 15 years old, is a professional witch. She left Yokohama with Chito, her black cat, to live in the house of her relatives in Aomori. This is where she begins to train as a witch. Even though Makoto's powers are still limited to just flying through the sky, she and her second cousins Kei and Chinatsu surely make the most out of each and every day.

I thought this was a very relax and fun series. I love all the the characters Makoto is a waifu able character.

The art style and design are cute, as is the music.

The voice acting is very hit miss especially since it's a Sentai dub but hey it was a decent attempt.

Still though if you want something relaxing to watch I recommend it.
