Loosely made remake which could have been better!!
ThisIsJammy30 April 2016
Yet an another remake of a good film (Jolly LLB) which falls into Kollywood's money making hands. At the end of the day a film is made only to make profits and not to create awareness (Unlike Visaranai).

Manithan directed by I. Ahmed who made the promising Endrendrum Punnagai seems to get everything right in making this film suit our Tamil audience but fails a bit with 2 hours 30 minutes screenplay.

Must mention is Udhay's performance mainly in the climax and his face suits the dumb not speakable-non heroic character. Vivek may not be at his best but still gives us something to laugh here and there.

Radharavi and Prakash Raj as Adisheshan's performance is one of the highlights of the film. Radharavi as Judge looks uber cool and apt for the role. Kudos to the cast crew.

Like yet an another Tamil film Hansika's role is as useless as studying engineering in this current generation and like a mediocre student trying to pass by writing stories, Hansika survives with some cute expressions. Hansika's mouth synchronization's continues to be pathetic (We have talked about this enough).

Good remake
forayof10 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Director Ahmed's third offering Manithan is a powerful courtroom drama laced with comedy which deals with monopolistic nature of the rich and judicial corruption. This is an official remake of Hindi movie Jolly LLB which was inspired by the sensational Sanjeev Nanda's hit and run case of 1999. Udayanithi Stalin steps into Arshad Warsi's role while Prakashraj steps into Booman Irani's role. Film opens with Land cruiser accident where it runs over people sleeping in pavements. Initially handling petty cases in his native place Pollachi moves to Chennai and plans to make it big and starts to try his hand in bigger cases. How he really overcomes all hurdles and obstacles to sustain a name is told in the same original fashion. Udayanithi's role is a departure from his earlier role and fits the bill and playing the acid-tongued, corrupted antagonist lawyer is Prakashraj who goes overboard in acting mostly. Radha Ravi plays the judge distinctly. Hansika Motwani plays Udayanithi's love interest and she just does what is needed. Music Director Santhosh Narayanan provides ample support while Cinematographer Madhie has some good montage to his credit. Just go for it if you prefer drama with laughs but underneath the humour, we see the angry critics of the system, which is easily manipulated by the rich and very difficult to penetrate for the poor.

A good entertainer for all.

This is essentially a well made remake of the original Hindi version of Jolly LLB. This movie has been very well made to suit well for the Tamil audience better and appeal to mass crowd. Nevertheless it also manages to scrape of good marks in terms of being a good film.

The core story is closely based on a real life incident - " 1999 Delhi Hit and Run Case " involving a person named Sanjeev Nanda, son a rich Industrialist Suresh Nanda ran over and killing many.

The story has slightly been modified and has been made into a fine script to suit the silver screen.

The performances of Radha Ravi as the Judge and Prakash Raj as the Lawyer are simply brilliant. Udhayanidhi has made a good attempt to perform, but he requires a to put a lot more efforts. Hansika looks beautiful in this movie, providing the moral support needed for the protagonist but other than that she merely remains a set property like most heroines do inn commercial cinema.

This is a definitely a cinema you can watch for some good entertainment.

A Well Made Remake
swiss_fed182 May 2016
Manithan (2016) is the remake of a well received bollywood movie Jolly LLB. Director Ahmed has done his best to remake a well written courtroom drama for Tamil audience.

The movie starts with Uday (hero of the movie) , a lawyer in the sessions court at Pollachi. He struggles to argue in the courtroom and win a case. He is getting mocked by everyone for being a failure in his career. He wants to prove himself to his girlfriend Hansika and decides to practice law in the high court in Chennai. He joins his uncle Vivek who is also a lawyer in the high court. What Uday did to prove himself to the world is the rest of the story.

Notable performances from Prakash Raj, Radha Ravi elevates the tension of the courtroom scenes. Hansika and Ishwarya have done their roles as expected. Uday has done his best till date especially in the Climax scene. Vivek makes a good comeback and brings in laughs at the right times.

As a whole very well executed courtroom drama with excellent performances all around. Go and watch it in theaters.

An engrossing court room drama!! A much needed tamil film at this time!
rahulakrish4 May 2016
Manithan is a movie where the script is the hero and the actors play their part eloquently in supporting the script.... The movie has a well paced script that neatly incorporates all the necessary elements. The director has sensibly added elements there were missing in the Hindi version and makes this a well etched entertainer... Udhaynidhi stalin proves he's here to stay, his acting gets noticed even amongst stalwarts like Prakash raj & Radharavi. The movie is sprinkled with funny moments and satires and kept me entertained throughout. It rides strong on emotions and creates a connect with all the characters no matter big or small. That's probably where the strength of the film lies in. One might find the pace of the first of a little slow but the second half makes up for it and also a special mention to the riveting climax. Overall Manithan deserves to be watched for its very good script, hard hitting dialogues and an excellent performance from its starcast.

Even though remake it's well adapted and executed precisely. I loved the dialogues and would watch repeatedly especially the climax sequence.

Warning: Spoilers
A lawyer who wants to make it big in career to get the nod of his 'to-be' father-in-law fails repeatedly before opportunity presents itself in the form of a sensational land cruiser Hit-and-run case shrouded with mysteries. He takes on the best lawyer in town filing a PIL to re-open the case, trades blows and he discovers his true self in the process.

Hats off to the Director for giving a good remake.

Uday's performance was very good.

Vivek gives an awesome comeback.

Hansika does her job well.

This is definitely not a typical Uday's Movie.

Notable performances from Prakash Raj and Radha Ravi.

Last but not least.. Santhosh Narayanan's BGM and Songs were awesome.
