The early years of evil. Much looked over.

Warning: Spoilers
When I first started watching this, I was a bit confused. Over the opening credits, you get to see Adolf Hitler in his childhood with his parents, and a lot is truly glossed over. In fact, I wondered why they even bother to tasks Stockard Channing as Hitler's mother because she is basically a cameo, and not even a memorable one. I was confused because I thought maybe I had skipped to part two. There has definitely been better movies about Hitler, but they don't go into his early adulthood in the great detail that this does, although after doing some research, I begin to question a lot of the accuracy. Robert Carlyle plays the role in a way that shows the growing stages of his obsession with power and blaming the issues of the Germans on the Jewish people, often confronted by a Jewish person and one of his advisors trying to get him to alter his speech, only for Hitler to stand there and not change his stance on anything. Carlyle shows the stages of his changing looks, going from World War 1 soldier two activists to the leader of the Nazi party, named Fuhrer even before he became chancellor of Germany.

There's also a recurring look into German cabarets of the time with the same performer doing numbers that obviously are politically based, and this is an interesting element of the rising anarchy and displeasure with Germany's place in the world after losing the first World War. It's not bad, but it's also not great, perhaps just one of too many films about Hitler made, and there have definitely been better ones. I certainly don't see an award-winning two-part TV movie that shows him up to the point where he was sentenced to prison, something that you see with the final shot of him will strengthen his determinations. The physical detail is excellent, but there is still a lot of question about the accuracy of certain elements about his life.

Was good to watch if your into these reenactment movies. Acting felt a little strange at first but got better as it went on. Part 2 continued to get even better!
