Another Nice Short from Doescher
Frances (2016)
*** (out of 4)
A man is in his apartment snorting cocaine when he receives a call saying that a blind woman with connections to a Russian mob boss will be showing up for a meeting. Frances (Melissa Merry) shows up as planned but doesn't take too kindly to the host.
FRANCES is a short film from director Justin Doescher and I found it to be rather entertaining. I stumbled across the filmmaker's movies on Amazon and decided to watch the shorts and I must admit that I became a fan. This film certainly isn't flawless but I like the director's approach and how he seems to enjoy building up a story and then pulling the rug out from under the viewer during the final act. At just nine-minutes the film flies by with a nice pacing and it's certainly worth watching. The Russian accents are pretty bad but outside of this it's an entertaining short.
