Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker pays homage to his late father in their new song “Posthumous Forgiveness.” It will appear on the band’s upcoming The Slow Rush, which is the follow-up to 2015’s Currents. Their new 12-song LP is due February 14th.
The sprawling song, which Parker wrote and produced, is awash in a haze of memories as it opens. “Ever since I was a small boy/No one else compared to you, no way,” he sings over a melancholic, psychedelic-tipped soundscape. “I always thought heroes stay close/Whenever troubled times arose.

Babylon Berlin firm Beta Film has invested in fledgling British drama producer RubyRock Pictures.
The German producer and distributor has taken a minority stake in the UK company, recently set up by Zoë Rocha, former TV boss at The Fyzz Facility. The two companies will look to create, develop, finance and produce English-language series for the international market.
The move is Beta Film’s first investment in British drama production company.
RubyRock Pictures has yet to win a commission but it is developing series including The Heartless, a music drama written by Spotless writer Lucie Barât, the sister of The Libertines frontman Carl Barât and feminist horror anthology Her Horror. Rocha previously produced Channel 5 comedy Borderline and Sky’s Chris O’Dowd-fronted Moone Boy.
Moritz von Kruedener, Managing Director Beta Film, said, “Ruby Rock is an essential addition to our portfolio and a great partner to create exceptional series for the international market.

BorderlineThe Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland finds itself refreshed in its 72nd edition, with a new artistic director, Lili Hinstin, in place with a new film programming team. Why does this matter? If you’ve ever been excited to hear the announcement of the lineup at Sundance, or Cannes, or your local festival; if you’ve seen something marvelous or horrid at this festival or that, it’s because the programmers chose it. Large events like these have millions of moving pieces and sometimes no personal presence, and it’s sometimes easy to forget—or even not realize—that behind the scenes choices are being made that shape your experience. And it’s good to refresh those choices, for institutional inertia can easily settle on such organizations. Locarno’s previous director, Carlo Chatrian, ran it for six years and was hardly curating a calcified event—he has left, along with many of his programmers,...

Tame Impala have dropped “Borderline,” a track the band previously performed live on Saturday Night Live. The song follows “Patience,” a single released in March, which marked Tame Impala’s first new music since 2015’s Currents.
“Borderline” captures the band’s signature psychedelic vibe. The track has a euphoric, uplifting melody over a hypnotic beat and showcases band mastermind Kevin Parker’s breezy vocals. Parker teased the new track on Instagram earlier this week.

In “Papi Chulo,” a scrupulously low-key and unassumingly ingratiating dramedy about the friendship forged between a thirtysomething Anglo TV weatherman and a middle-aged Mexican migrant day laborer, Irish-born writer-director John Butler turns an outsider’s eye to the dynamics of interrelationships that cross socioeconomic divides in L.A., and makes it clear, without hammering home his point too insistently, that one can intelligently and entertainingly illuminate universal verities about basic human needs by focusing on specific details of place, class, and sexual orientation.
Sean, played with an admirable fearlessness by Matt Bomer, is the weatherman, a usually chipper professional who has an on-camera meltdown — something more than a crying jag, but not quite a cry of anguish — while forecasting another day of hellish heat in and around L.A. If Ariana Grande fans ever wanted to just hang out with the pop star, the “Sweetener Sessions” might have been their best shot.
Grande brought the series of intimate shows to Los Angeles’ Ace Theatre on Saturday night, giving fans one of the first tastes of live performances of new songs off her latest album, “Sweetener.” Less than a week after performing “God Is a Woman” on a massive stage and in front of millions of people for the MTV Video Music Awards, Grande switched it up, getting up-close-and-personal with fans with a relaxed show in a theater that seats only 1,600.
And even her fiance was along for the ride. Pete Davidson of “Saturday Night Live” fame introduced her to the stage, telling the audience, “I can’t believe she talks to me” before the two shared a passionate smooch in front of the crowd.

Ariana Grande is determined to be a light on her fourth album. And no one has needed that light more than Grande herself. The last year has marked a tumultuous, even transformative, period for the 25-year-old pop superstar. In May, 2017, her concert in Manchester, England was the site of a terrorist bombing in which 23 people were killed. As she recovered from the post-attack trauma, Grande experienced the dissolution of a toxic relationship with rapper Mac Miller.

At some point in the process of listening to Ariana Grande’s fourth and most delightful album, “Sweetener,” which is slightly dominated by six songs produced and co-written by Pharrell Williams, it may occur to you: Well, of course she was going to hook up with the guy who made “Happy” one of the biggest hits of the decade. Grande has had a couple of venti-sized bitter teas to swallow in the last couple of years — a celebrity breakup and a bombing, in no particular traumatic order — so who better to go to, to make a record that’s sweet ‘n’ high?

Sean Durkin is finally returning to independent cinema. The “Martha Marcy May Marlene” director has cast Carrie Coon and Jude Law in his family psychodrama “The Nest,” which marks his first indie film since “Martha Marcy” made him a breakout director in 2011. While Durkin directed four episodes of the television miniseries “Southcliffe,” the upcoming film will be his first feature in eight years. Variety first reported the news.
“The Nest” is being described as “part psychological thriller, part family drama.” Law plays an entrepreneur named Rory, who brings his American wife and kids to live with him in England so that he can look for new business ventures. The family leaves the American suburbs and move into an isolated house that pushes them a part and “plunges them into the despair of an archaic ’80s Britain.”
The movie gives Coon one of her biggest lead roles in a film to date.

So the ladies are off to Canada!
Good Girls Season 1 Episode 3 wastes no time in letting us know what Rio has planned for the ladies since they have failed to pay him back the money they stolen.
He needs the ladies to go to Canada to retrieve a package for him, but he fails to tell them what exactly they will be smuggling back across the border. Cleary this is a foolproof plan, right? Not exactly.
Understandably, the ladies are terrified of what they're doing and what could happen if they get caught. When you think of illegal things crossing the border, you think drugs. And that's where my mind went to at first.
But then again this is Rio we're talking about here. He seems to be a very smart guy, and he wouldn't be dumb enough to send three amateurs up to Canada and expect them just to...

“Borderline” would arguably be the best episode of Good Girls so far—kind of like it’s arguably the best Madonna song—if it were better able its marry its lead trio’s crime antics and their individual suburbia storylines. For the latter, that’s especially in the cases of the Annie and Ruby storylines, as Beth’s home…
