Neither used the word “bro” and there was zero talk about any sibling rivalry or late-night phone calls about their respective work woes, but Emmy voters who wanted to learn more about Amazon’s Fallout were treated Tuesday to an interview with Executive Producer Jonathan Nolan by his Oscar-winning sibling, Christopher.
Jonathan Nolan — who was introduced by the Oppenheimer director as “my baby brother” — talked about directing the drama based on a post-apocalyptic video game and how the role of the Ghoul was specifically written for Walton Goggins. But the 40-minute conversation at the DGA Theater also offered some insight into how the siblings collaborate and routinely inspire one another.
“The exciting thing for me with this project was knowing that we needed showrunners to carry the story forward,” Jonathan Nolan told his brother about creators Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner. “I thought there was an opportunity for me to...

One major problem that plagued most Arrowverse shows was CW’s inability to end them at the right time. While most of them started on a high note, especially Grant Gustin’s The Flash, which was the biggest superhero show on TV upon its release, the writers couldn’t carry the momentum in the later seasons. But things could have been very different for the CW show that started it all, Arrow.
Had CW stuck to the original plans for the show, Arrow could’ve ended on a really high note, as instead of going on for 8 seasons, season 5 was originally intended to be the show’s end.

The Fallout series has a bunch of characters that viewers are introduced to in the first episode itself. Out of all of them, three stand out the most: Lucy the Vault Dweller, Maximus the Squire, and The Ghoul. The third one on that list will catch the most attention, in no small part due to his appearance.
Played by Walton Goggins, The Ghoul is not an anomaly in the surface world but one of the more interesting of his kind. By understanding the role of his kind in the games, we can truly appreciate how interesting Goggins’ character will be later in the story.
The Ghoul Takes Center Stage in Amazon’s Fallout
The Ghoul is the personification of Fallout‘s wasteland.
It seems Jonathan Nolan was looking at offering three different perspectives of the wasteland. Lucy’s will be that of the naive Vault dweller who has only just approached the surface.

Everyone loves a good rags-to-riches story, and showbiz is full of such examples, with the most notable ones involving the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Demi Moore, Jim Carrey, etc. Walton Goggins, known for leaning into playing morally ambiguous characters, whose recent work involves the Fallout show, shares a similar story, as it took him a while to find his footing in Hollywood.
While Goggins eventually rose to prominence in the 2000s, he didn’t have the smoothest of starts, as during his arrival to LA at the age of 19, he only had a mere $300 under his belt.

Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout series recently debuted, and it is winning hearts all over. It must have been a challenge for Jonathan Nolan to put all this together. After all, unlike Westworld, Fallout’s popularity is pretty widespread. Gamers everywhere had their eyes set on this series, wondering if their favorite post-apocalyptic world would get justice here.
It did, and how? It’s a very well-made TV series that is an adequate mix of humor and grittiness. It is pretty obvious that the creators took extra care in learning everything about this world and then going about creating this series. But besides everything the Fallout series does, game director Todd Howard has one more thing to add to its list of achievements.

The stellar video game adaptation that is "Fallout" has finally arrived on Prime Video. The show presents an immersive alternate future that feels akin to the games while weaving a whole new wasteland-based tale. One of the "Fallout" series' great strengths is the depth of its in-game world, which lends itself to telling multiple stories from numerous characters' perspectives. Each game in the series, which kicked off with 1997's top-down RPG "Fallout," tells a different story set in a retrofuturist alternate reality where the world was decimated by nuclear war in 2077. The games have been set across this post-apocalyptic U.S., from Appalachia to Vegas, and feature a different protagonist each time.

One of these changes includes meeting the noseless Ghoul (played by Goggins). But how did the Ghoul lose his nose in the first place? Why is it missing?

A stark wooden cross stands in a moonlit cemetery in the opening episode of Fallout, Amazon’s eccentric and capacious adaptation of the video game series. From each arm hangs an IV bag that feeds a yellow liquid into a grave. There lies the body of Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins), an erstwhile cowboy who struck gold as a western film star before being blacklisted for alleged communist affiliations. Cooper lived in a distinctively retro-futurist United States. In this alternate universe, the 2070s were marked by escalating war between America and China and seemingly stuck in the 1950s, with black-and-white TVs and classic cars—plus robots that helped apron-clad homemakers around the house. Then the bombs fell, in a bout of mutually assured destruction that eradicated almost all life on Earth.
More than 200 years after the nuclear calamity, a trio of wary mercenaries dig up Cooper’s tomb and find a coffin chained shut.

Walton Goggins’ The Ghoul in the upcoming Fallout TV show is already a hot topic, and for good reason. It’s not just his acting that’s getting people excited, but also the way they came up with his distinctive macabre look.
In a recent interview, Goggins talked about how he worked closely with the show’s team to make sure his Ghoul makeup wouldn’t scare people away. Instead, he wanted to make them want to know more about his character.

The iconic Fallout franchise, beloved for its darkly humorous exploration of a post-nuclear world, is finally receiving its long-awaited television adaptation this month. Set to release on April 11 on Amazon Prime, the series takes interesting creative choices.
Instead of adapting the core narrative structure of the games, the series will feature a fresh story that carves its own corner in the larger Fallout universe, setting itself apart from other video game adaptations like Halo. The show also features a brand-new roster of characters, with Walton Goggins’ distinctive Ghoul being a big talking point. However, he could’ve looked very different. Amazon Prime and Bethesda shook hands to bring Fallout fans the one thing they have been craving for a very long time. The Fallout series was announced a while ago, and its trailer was made public back in 2023. Eventually, the creators even announced a launch date for the series, which is April 11, 2024.
Among this slew of announcements, some things pleasantly surprised everyone. One of them was the fact that the Dark Knight writer and creator of Westworld, Jonathan Nolan, was one of the showrunners on this project. The second surprise was that none other than Walton Goggins would be playing a crucial part in this series—a part of a ghoul. But he signed this role way before he knew what it was all about!

The latest trailer for Amazon MGM Studios’ Fallout live-action series opens with an advertisement for Vault-Tec, the corporation behind the giant underground bunkers that will soon become the best refuge for the survivors of a devastating, world-ending nuclear war on the planet’s surface. The well-coiffed gentleman persuading viewers to buy a residence in one of Vault-Tec’s many Vaults — “a veritable Camelot for the new age” — is none other than Walton Goggins‘ smooth-talking Cooper Howard. It’s this same man we later see riding a horse with his daughter, as the two try to escape the bombs falling over Los Angeles. Did they ever make it to that veritable Camelot?
Fast-forward to 219 years later, to the year 2296, and Cooper has been transformed into a grotesque, very noseless bounty hunter known only as The Ghoul. Fans of the video games are undoubtedly familiar with the concept of ghouls, humans who...

The official trailer for Prime Video’s Fallout has a lot going on in three minutes, as it presents the main characters in more detail, tries to give information about the story, and showcases the aftermath of a nuclear war. But out of all of those aspects, there’s one that stands out the most, promising an extraordinary arc and development.
That element is none other than The Ghoul, played by Walton Goggins, who’s described as “a morally ambiguous bounty hunter,” but before the world went into chaos and turned into a radiated hellscape, the character had a whole other life with a regular name and a different but similarly nefarious job.

Almost three months after the initial teaser was shared by Prime Video to give a taste of what fans can expect from its Fallout TV show, it revealed the official trailer for the series, and calling it faithfully spectacular would be an understatement. Not only do the creators seem to understand the variety of tones that accompany the rich universe, but it genuinely feels like a high-budget production that may actually end up delivering on numerous fronts.
Where the original footage was more of a generalized look at the show, the new trailer showcases more details about its characters and world, suggesting that the beloved game franchise may be getting adapted by the right team and is in safe hands.
The Fallout Trailer Puts More Focus on the Show’s Characters Meet The Ghoul, played by Walton Goggins, who looks like he may steal every scene he’s in when Fallout releases.

Video game adaptations are all the rage. Ever since "Castlevania" became a hit on Netflix, we've seen adaptations big and small achieve huge popularity and success. On television, there's "Arcane," and this year's "The Last of Us" shows that you actually can be faithful to the medium of video games while also adapting these stories for the screen. There is no stopping this train.
One of the most anticipated and exciting adaptations in the works now is the upcoming "Fallout" TV show, adapted from the popular video game franchise of the same name. "Fallout" is set in an atompunk retrofuturistic post-apocalypse, with the games being renowned for their world-building and visual storytelling.
Where "The Last of Us" and other post-apocalyptic stories focus on the pain and misery that follows the end of civilization, "Fallout" has always been more than a bit tongue in cheek, with plenty of satire and sarcasm in the nuclear wasteland.

In an extensive interview with Vanity Fair, the creators of Amazon’s upcoming Fallout series revealed some of the first substantial details about the show. While that Vanity Fair story is filled with fascinating tidbits, some of the most interesting new details concern Walton Goggins’ suddenly much more interesting role in the project.
Previously, it was revealed that Goggins will play a Ghoul in Amazon’s Fallout series. For those who don’t know, Ghouls in the Fallout universe are essentially humans who have been physically and mentally mutated by prolonged exposure to radiation. Though some Ghouls are little more than aggressive zombies meant to be destroyed by the player’s character, other Ghouls have actually formed their own societies removed from the rest of the (post-apocalyptic) world. They’re outcasts, but they’re not necessarily more hostile than the average human.

Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons marks a couple of firsts, although they’ve had several print team-ups and their own comic, it’s the first on-screen pairing of the sons of DC’s biggest superheroes. It’s also the first of DC’s animated films to be completely done by computer, using the same styling as Marvel’s “What If” series.
It opens with a pre-credits recap of how Superman came to Earth, only with one small addition, which may seem puzzling, but will be explained later in the film. That’s followed by what is basically another origin story, that of Superboy, aka Jonathan Kent the son of Superman, and Lois Lane.

Similarly, I didn’t read the Injustice: Gods Among Us prequel comic book that apparently sold well enough to inspire Warner Animation to invest precious time and resources in adapting it to film. The resulting product, out now from Warner Home Entertainment, is an acquired taste.
Those familiar with the source material will be irked at how much has been trimmed out to fit hundreds of pages into a 75-minute story. Those unfamiliar with the tale will scratch their heads a lot, asking, “How’d that happen?”
