For 12 seasons, "Murder, She Wrote" was the definitive cozy murder mystery show. Set in the small and charming yet dead-body-filled fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine, the show wormed its way into the hearts of procedural fans everywhere with its familiar structure and unlikely hero -- middle-aged mystery writer Jessica Fletcher (Angela Lansbury). While the actor behind the beloved amateur sleuth passed away in 2022, "Murder, She Wrote" lives on, both in the form of much-watched reruns and in an upcoming movie adaptation.
Little is known about the new version of "Murder, She Wrote" at this point, but screenwriters Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo have said that the story will relate back to Cabot Cove and Jessica in some capacity. When it comes to potential cameos from old cast members, the pool is unfortunately limited, as several of the series' lead actors have passed away in the decades since the show ended.

Exclusive: A wild pre-holiday auction for a Ryan Reynolds global heist comedy vehicle is coming to a close, with Netflix winning the deal. Deadline revealed the untitled pitch last week, when the creatives did the rounds to pitch directly — something that hasn’t happened much since the pandemic –and the 7-figure bids began hitting the table. Dana Fox will write the script, and Simon Kinberg is producing with Reynolds.
The pitch is untitled, but I’ve heard it has great parts for an ensemble in the spirit of an Oceans Eleven. It is also set in the international arena. The idea originated from Fox and Kinberg, and they pitched it to Reynolds and Maximum Effort.
There were eight buyers in the mix, and that whittled down to five and finally four before Netflix prevailed. Sources said Fox will be paid mid 7-figures to write it and the producing deals are high 7-figures.

It's always a fun time when Ben leaps into a host who dabbles in the unknown and mysterious. Scientific skepticism duking it out with the belief that all things are possible. Because, after all, he's a body-skipping time traveler, so who's he to say what's improbable?
In a number of ways, Quantum Leap Season 2 Episode 3 bears a striking resemblance to Quantum Leap Season 1 Episode 7, only instead of spirits, Ben's got potential extraterrestrials complicating the mission.
What's less fun is watching Ben process the news that Addison's moved onto a new relationship. They are both hurting so much, it's a wonder Addison sticks out the whole leap.
The X-Files vibe is slightly defused by a lack of Scully-versus-Mulder tension on site. Yes, Addison tries to Occam's Razor the situation, but Ben's the scientist, and he's clearly intrigued by the possibility of proving the presence of aliens.
Also, whether purposely or not,...

In one of its first development moves since the end of the writers strike, New Line has hired Blair Butler to write Occupant, the adaptation of a short story by Victor Sweetser.
Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind the critically adored 2022 horror movie Barbarian, is producing the supernatural thriller with frequent collaborator Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon and Scott Glassgold of Ground Control — the latter specializes in the horror short-story adaptation business — are also producing, as is John Poliquin.
The project was the subject of a heated bidding war in February with New Line, the Warner Bros. division that dominates the studio horror space, winning it with a six-figure outright buy.
New Line is keeping the logline locked in the basement, but the story is a spin on the traditional haunted house tale. In this case, when a mysterious old house is moved to a small town,...

Michael Weston and A.J. Buckley in ‘Bark’ – Fantastic Fest 2023
Bark writer Steve Fauquier and director Marc Schölermann have taken an incredibly simple premise – a man is tied to a tree in the woods, alone, without any idea how he got there – and created a unique, intense, and utterly captivating thriller. Fauquier and Schölermann also delivered a film that’s impossible to describe without giving too much away (which means this is a super short review). The slightest hint at what’s in store could spoil the well-earned shocker of an ending – a final act bound to spark conversations and have a significant portion of the audience cheering.
A two-hander driven by outstanding performances by Michael Weston (Home Before Dark) and A.J. Buckley (Seal Team), Bark makes excellent use of a single location to evoke a wide range of emotional responses. It’s impossible not to place yourself in the tied-up...

The new trailer for Beau is Afraid is pretty much everything you’d expect from an Ari Aster and A24 (Everything Everywhere All at Once) film. The trailer does a terrific job of teasing what’s in store without actually giving away any of the plot.
Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) leads the cast as the titular character. Emmy Award winner Nathan Lane (Only Murders in the Building), Oscar nominee Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone), Parker Posey (Lost in Space), and three-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone also star along with Stephen McKinley Henderson (Causeway), Hayley Squires (Great Expectations), Denis Ménochet (The Mauritanian), Kylie Rogers (Home Before Dark), Armen Nahapetian (Here and Now), and Zoe Lister-Jones (Life in Pieces).
A24 released this extremely basic synopsis: “A paranoid man goes on an epic odyssey in order to get back home in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from writer/director Ari Aster.

The R-rated horror-comedy directed for Universal by Elizabeth Banks has broken out as one of the early success stories of 2023, affirming that original features, and those in the comedy arena, can certainly still perform in today’s marketplace. Based loosely on real events that took place in 1985, the film watches as a duffel bag’s worth of cocaine drops from a drug smuggler’s plane and winds up in a Georgia forest, becoming a favorite snack for a hulking black bear. An electric set of unfortunate souls, including Prince, Keri Russell and Christian Convery, are then subject to the animal’s murderous rampage.

Patrick Brice will continue hanging around in the horror genre with his next movie Home Before Dark, THR reports tonight.
Brice’s film for Sony will adapt the novel from 2021, written by Riley Sager.

TV academy voters are faced with a daunting task when they fill out their 2022 Emmy Awards nominations ballot in that they have to consider 171 shows for Best Drama Series. This is up by 38 from last year. As has been the case since 2017, members do not have to winnow their choices down to a set amount and are instead being told to “vote for as many achievements in this category that you have seen and feel are worthy of a nomination.”
Last year’s champ, “The Crown,” will not return to seek another victory, as no new episodes of the Netflix series have aired since its fourth season finale in November 2020. Of its seven 2021 rivals, three – “The Boys,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and “The Mandalorian” – also did not return in time to meet the eligibility window of June 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022. Another two – “Lovecraft Country” and “Pose” – ended their runs in October 2020 and June 2021, respectively.

The narrative is shaped as a heart-warming family comedy about a down-on-his-luck pro surfer who becomes stranded in an Outback town after a car accident. There, he teams up with 11-year-old Indigenous girl. The pair form an unlikely friendship working together to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned baby kangaroos (joeys). The endeavor proves to be life-changing for both.

Perhaps the biggest mystery of who may end up where, Christopher Walken will not be submitted for guest actor in a drama, as originally presumed by Apple because of his role in more than half of the episodes of the season. He will compete alongside his co-stars Turturro and Tillman in supporting actor drama. The deadline for entering programs for primetime programming is May 12, so any of these plans are subject to change.
