"Siskel & Ebert" I.Q./Ri¢hie Ri¢h/Ready to Wear/Nobody's Fool/Mixed Nuts/The Jungle Book (TV Episode 1994) Poster

Roger Ebert: Self - Host

Quotes

  • Gene Siskel - Host : I know what went wrong with "Mixed Nuts": A lot of top-flight actors were asked to do just a couple of scenes for director Ephron, and they all signed on because, "Hey, how bad could it be?" "Mixed Nuts" is how bad; VERY bad.

    Roger Ebert - Host : It's bad.

Gene Siskel - Host : Wow.

Roger Ebert - Host : It's bad. Woo, is it bad.

    Gene Siskel - Host : I mean, I don't...

Roger Ebert - Host : It's really, really bad.

    Gene Siskel - Host : I don't understand, uh...

Roger Ebert - Host : Why would you have Madeline Kahn in a movie, and have her spend the whole movie stuck in an elevator, screaming? I mean, what did she think when she was looking at the script? "Oh great, I have seventeen screams." Uh... the movie is just, it's not worth even talking about anymore. Just forget about it. What do you think, huh?

Gene Siskel - Host : Well, just, there are a lot of names that people might get drawn on. They might, you know in the ads, it's gonna say "From the director of "Sleepless in Seattle"." So here's our warning...

Roger Ebert - Host : This movie isn't sleepless, it's not in Seattle...

Gene Siskel - Host : There ya go.

Roger Ebert - Host : ...And it's not any good.

  • Gene Siskel - Host : [after Roger gives a thumbs up to "The Jungle Book"]  Well, uh, I didn't care for the picture, Roger. I think you're really easy this week for some reason. Um, I thought that, um, to compare the picture to Indiana Jones films, I mean, this isn't anywhere near...

Roger Ebert - Host : Weren't you listening? I didn't compare it, I said it's the same sort of genre. In other words, it's not a children's movie like "The Jungle Book", it's more of an adventure yarn like Indiana Jones.

Gene Siskel - Host : But in terms of quality, and whether people should see it, I really can't recommend the picture. It was the standard story of the wild child being, uh, brought into society and then he rebels against the white hunters and all that stuff.

Roger Ebert - Host : Good performances, great locations, terrific sets...

Gene Siskel - Host : Actually, I thought that some of the locations, uh, were kind of boring, where, for example, they run down the same pathway in the jungle each time when they have the "Chariots of Fire" in the beginning and then we see 'em later go through the same path. I thought they were kinda dull. The monkey, uh, kingdom where they have all the jewels there...

Roger Ebert - Host : That was fabulous, all those monkeys gibbering as they're standing around...

Gene Siskel - Host : I liked the monkeys, not the set particularly. The jewels looked, uh, cheap, as a matter of fact, all the coins there at the end, I was let down at the very end.

Roger Ebert - Host : Gene, I think that, to some degree, you kinda have to realize that these are movies.

Gene Siskel - Host : [sarcastic]  Oh, I had no idea.

Roger Ebert - Host : You're not expected to be a jeweler when you go to movies.

Gene Siskel - Host : Oh, I had no idea they were movies, Roger!

Roger Ebert - Host : Well, I'm glad to be able to help you out.
